Mages should have swap instead of a teleport. It would be much harder to rush when you have to a) click a monster that you see on your screen (insteaded of clicking blindly beyond a wall) and port into a mess of monsters. This also allows for strategic uses for your party as well. Friend is near death, swap him out or swap out the monster doing the majority of the damage.
So obviously this isn't the best form of survivability although it could certainly help you survive in the right situations, so some other form would probably be needed. Also it would be overpowered in PvP if they didn't implement the right restrictions.
Try to imagine D2 without teleport. People would have to actually fight their way to a boss. A character would have to kill monsters to get somewhere. Teleport completely changed the way diablo 2 was played, no other skill did that. 1 skill shouldn't have that much power.

Or for your argument, the lack of playing...
Why would you want to deny someone that...If they choose not to play part of the game it's their choice (and their loss).
there really wasnt much of a difference if you could or couldnt Tele it just took a lil longer... but they miss out on the off chance of the unique monsters along the way of dropping some fat loots.
In D1 you didn't have all those + skills items and it took a lot of mana to cast.
Besides, Teleport was hard enough to learn for the nonspellcasting classes since it took a lot of magic.
They definitly need to nerf Tele in D3, a game should last more than 5 minutes lol.
I like the idea of moving other players or monsters around, it sounds like a lot of fun.
Say that instead of dodging missiles or getting through a mob of monsters, you could deviate those missiles or teleport the monsters out of your way, now that would be a cool idea.
Ummm I found tele to be one of the most useful skills, I actually had an enigma for each of my non-mule non sorc characters... I'm pretty sure it was 5 that I had, anyways, Tele needs to stay because you have to admit that it made replaying the game alot more bearable after your 20th playthrough of it. I dont mind going throught the game up to 10-25 times without skipping areas, but any more and I would go insane, but if I could tele, then its much easier to skip straight to the area where you need to get your quest done, or mf, or lvl.

Well, Teleporting is meant for a magic class (sorceror/sorceress) not other classes. Then its not Teleport that is the problem, but Enigma. Then we need to see Teleport removed from items (God I hope so!)
What you are basically saying is Swap Location and it could easily be as abused as teleport with some skill. Even if you cannot swap beyond walls (why not?) it would just require more mana to get somewhere.
There is nothing imbalanced about Swap Location in PvP, though. Basically you can cast a spell on your spot and Swap Locations with the other player for that spell to hit the player. I don't know really if Diablo II even has spells like that. Maybe meteor but not powerful enough and too slow. Possible but would require precision, and precision is good for PvP.
For more information on existing implementation of Swap Location, load up Nox, choose wizard, and play with your friends...
Since it looks as if they're adding cooldowns to attacks anyways, if Teleport does make it back in the game it will be on a cooldown.
The original Blizzard North team had the intention of removing abilities like Teleport and Leap, hopefully the new team can figure out a way to balance the classes somewhat.
Those two abilities made every other class only half-decent for doing MF runs. The Enigma armour was the fix, but it was like putting a band-aid on a gunshot wound.
i dont know if any one here plays diablo 2 mods but there is a mod called median 2008 and there is an assassin skill called blink and it teleports you and it has a cool down time, it works great you dont get to spam it like in d2 and if you do want to use it often lot you have to invest lot of skill points on it. so i think cool down on tele would help but ya i love d2 tele spam because i loved my fastcast sor
By any chance have you been playing vengeful spirit on DoTA?
Yes and honestly I think there are tons of spells they could borrow from DoTA.

The sorcers offer something special , like none other class - teleporting , - helping other players move trought darkness, and act as a hero to them, make a fun puting nature in offensive - like light, cold and fire againt the demons.
Sorcers was the funniest class in Diablo 2 - The must NOT DIE , becouse for someone is hard to achieve new way of play and levels with teleporting.
The game wasn't only "enhanced" by teleport, it was driven by it. Rushing, baal runs, mf runs were the fastest ways to power and riches. And they all required teleport to be competitive. Therefore anybody that wanted to have power and riches needed teleport.
I didn't like joining games and then having people whine at me to tele to whatever.

Words I hate in Gaming Culture:
Epic
Hardcore
E-Sports
there could still be teleport but just one thing
INCREASED COOLDOWN
so that you can't use it for long distances
Short-length phasing is better. Swap Location is more precise.
