It has always been free, so I don't expect them to make us pay now. Jesus, I hope not... because I will STILL get and play this game no matter how much it costs...
Battle.net (and Battle.net 2.0) is free, Some of the games have fees, like WOW does.

I can't imagine they would change it to pay-to-play system, but stranger things have happened.

And just in case you still think I'm talking out of my ass, one of Blizzard's employees has already stated that Battle.net 2.0, much like its predcessor, will remain free. There's no reason to suspect otherwise anyway, I was just exaggerating so there would be no needless (And in my opinion, irrational) fear of it not being free anymore.
And by the way, I'm pretty certain that you can't make a hole in a hole. Nice one eh?
I didn't say it did. I only mentioned WOW to further the point that blizzard charges to play the games, not the services.

i guess this will be a fee since most of the online games have already started with all type of monthly payment cards. Billarzd won't be stupid enough to give up that source of money income right?? is the same thinking that u would have if u are the boss of the company. Anyway for the hoping side i will still hope that they will not do that and stick to the orginal method which is just buying the orginal CD-Key. I think most of the fans will still buy it if the price is higher than before for just a CD-Key that can last forever without monthly scrib fee than rather buying a expensive CD-Key with monthly scrib fee as it will kill alot of die hard fans for that.
They won't need to charge subscription fees. They'll make more than enough money off of hackers and bots they ban who must purchase many copies throughout the years to keep their internet businesses flourishing. Think about it.
Cheers,

I believe it will remain free. Really I think I feel that way because if they do make it pay to play, I won't be. I can barely survive as it is with the economy be so shitty. Then again, we may be out of this semi-depression by the time they release this game. I may just pay to play afterall. Gosh I hope not.

The blind mind's eye replies with a sigh and a tear of contempt for those who see the world as it truly is.
I remember them saying that initially they were hoping to be able to make World of Warcraft free to play, but that business model didn't support the game. However, from what I understand, Diablo III will not be continuously updated with new content the same way World of Warcraft is, and will therefore not need the monthly fee to pay for the development of new patches. This is why I believe Diablo III will be free to play.
In addition to that, they're also working on a new unannounced MMO, right? This one will be a good source of income after World of Warcraft's lifetime is over (which is not anytime soon, by the looks of it). Diablo III doesn't need to pull in ridiculous amounts of money via monthly fees when this MMO will.
Some of you would argue that Blizzard wants to make as much money as possible, and would charge monthly fees for Diablo III because of that. However, the people who make the decisions in Blizzard are gamers too. They don't make games purely for the sake of making money and would probably want us to have a game that's both fun free to play as long as the business model supports it.

Yeah, originally they had hoped to make WoW ad-supported, but that didn't fit too well.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.

But WoW doesn't use battle.net.
All games on battle.net are free to play, that means SC2 and D3 are free to play.
It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.

That's why we buy the game, for a cd-key that works over battle.net.
