Lately I've been playing the original Diablo to reacquaint myself with the story, characters, et cetera, and to look for things that should be included in Diablo III. Well, here's something:
Me: *Clicks on powerful-looking mage guy who is standing alone in a room filled with books*
Zhar The Mad: "What?! Why are you here? All these interruptions are enough to make one insane. Here, take this and leave me to my work." *Drops book of firewall* "Trouble me no more!"
Me: *Clicks on nearby bookcase* Another book of Firewall drops.
Zhar The Mad: "Arrrgh! Your curiosity will be the death of you!" *Starts to teleport around the room and cast Fireball at me*
Me: *Casts stone curse and Firewall on Zhar* GG.
These types of encounters rock (other examples: snotspill, gharbad the weak). Does anyone else agree? I wonder why they weren't carried over to Diablo II. Moreover, is it just me or is the AI used in Diablo better than Diablo II's? This particular NPC was teleporting all around the room and casting Fireball at me; it felt like I was fighting another player.
And if your lucky, when he dies he gives you another book (of firewall).
Snotspill is an awesome bad guy. I give the sign back to Ogden, since Snotspill attacks you either way. It's to only way to get the Harlequinn Crest.
I don't know why there weren't any of these quests in Diablo II. Getting quests from monsters was cool.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.

Damn. I guess I screwed that one up. I gave Snotspill the sign. I was going to reload and try out the different scenarios, but it turned out I accidentally saved after I killed the snot.
