I am getting a little worried about Diablo III. Not so much the art but in general the direction in which the game is going (from what we know of at the moment). I do not want this to come across anti-Blizzard. But there are some serious concerns I have with what i have seen.
First off Witch Doctor character Who's idea was this? HE has a toad attack for pete sakes people. (Toads!!!) LOL are you kidding me. The name alone says he sucks Witch Doctor, Disney Disney Disney. lame . Nothing against Disney but this is not for 12 yoa players. This is Diablo we are talking about.
The Monk I am not so sure of yet. Seems more like a marketing ploy character to draw in a new crowd. Please explain how Karate Kid is going go up against prime evils or duel welding swords ? Just a little curious on that one.
Now it is 2000's decade and game mechanics and computers in general have really come a long ways. SO why can't we have a true 3D game camera? Just because in 1990's decade the tecnology wasn't there. But you could have any camera angle you wanted. IF you wanted to play as isometric you could. But if you wanted to do a close up for the kill or look where you are going in any direction it should be done. This I do not understand at all. We should be able to move the camera angle and have zoom ability. I think it would make it alot easier to play and the player would get more of a feel for the visual effects. And please for the love of God keep it photo realistic please. I am no expert by no means just a fan like many of you. But these things and I know there is so much more of the game none of us know about. And with the same people who made these decesions are doing so for them. What else is not going to have the Diablo feel and lore to it? What other improvements are not going to be done just because the series was successful. Make it better do not just add content to it make it better. I hope
When i finaly get my hands on it that there will be enough in there to keep me satisfied and hungry for more. But really I could see this game going both ways when it finally is relased. I could see it hugely succesfully at first just becasue of it's following and then dropping big time. And it could surprise me. I'm hoping PvP is done right. Maybe it could add a new twist the previous needed so badly.

we have the ability to zoom with the camera, and most of us like playing isometric more anyway, that was one of the key aspects of diablo

I'm a little iffy about the Witch Doctor as well. But A LOT of people seem to really like the character, and these are people who are true fans of the old games as well. Obviously then this question does not have an answer as obvious as you try to make it.
The Monk I am not so sure of yet. Seems more like a marketing ploy character to draw in a new crowd. Please explain how Karate Kid is going go up against prime evils or duel welding swords ? Just a little curious on that one.
Same as above. Monk is my favoroite class so far revealed, and I would consider myself a great fan of the series. For me the important part is that he fits in with the lore, but thematically I have no problem with him. And the problem you have with him seems to stem from the actual representation of hiim (i.e the art) rather than the actual concept behind the class.

First of all, as has been said, because the game is isometric at heart. It should be played in isometric because that's, whether you like it or not, a defining feature of Diablo that can still work in today's game design. Most people would use the isometric view anyway (except for perhaps taking screenshots) and it makes it much easier for the D3 devs to design all maps if they know specifically what angle people will view it from. It saves them work.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
I find this post quite hysterical. The frogs explode with poison you do know and di you see the freaking wall of ZOMBIES thatsdevours and shoots blood everyone. i'm not sure you quite get what the Wd is all about sure the Name is quite honestly shit imho but thats not to say he specifically sucks. He is a master of poisong fire and summoning. He has a locust swarm that devours its host and then moves from person to person devouring them aswell. i really don't understand your gripe with him as his feel is almost like the necromancer dark magic summons evils spirits does evil deeds, just the name and look is different thats all. Me the monk is my leats fav class he is idk just i dont see him fitting anything plus i hate combo styled characters they don't work imo but who knows ive yet to play him. ASnd as everyoens said Diablo feel is isometric view. Explain photo realistic because as i have seen there are only a few games i've come across that look photo realistic. and they have improved game mechanics but i dont understand what you complained about there.

I am not complaining so much as to more just concern that it may not succeed as the previous two did. Trust me I hope I am wrong. I love this series and Blizzard. Photo Realistis to me is making the graphics look as though you were watching a movie or there in person seeing it. Not a fan of big cartoony games. I like playing this game in isometric as well but it does make sense to me anyways for the player to have the ability to move the camera angle anyway they feel like it. Other games have this and i find it to work extremly well. It gives more of a 3d feel to the game (IMO). And of course if they put a chipmunk as a character there would be some player that would argue it was the best in the game. I look forward to the day that i can sit down at my desk turn the lights down and volume up and see for myself what Diablo III has instore for us all.
The thing is the name/class ''witch doctor'' sucks, and thats it.
Can you imagine a witch doctor charging into hell, fighting hordes of demons and slaying the lord of terror himself? You can't, the class is completely out of place. They should have sticked with necromancer, or warlock, or whatever.
The monk is ok i guess, but like airandius i was like ''wtf?!'' when i saw him blinking and exploding things.
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.

Let me ask you guys a question. Do you think Diablo III will live up to it's expectations? I have very high expectations for this game and from what i have seen I'm not as confident now as when it was first introduced. That first trailor rocked I thought . Loved it. But it has big shoes to fill.
I feel its gunna beat expectations the cinematics look awsome. The game is good enough graphically for me and lets face it its fucking Diablo A agme with a demon lord as the badass bad guy put simply YOU CANT LOSE!

I am also a bit concerned about the Witch Doctors abilities, I really really hope he isnt going to be the token suck character, sure summoning frogs is a bit silly, but if in the end it pwns, then so be it, it will be like unleashing the 10 plagues or whatever, frogs, then locusts, its a biblical thing? hah, I dont know, now im just rambling.
to answer your question, no I cant really see a WD going into hell, and slaying the lord of terror himself, but I can see a monk doing it.
Yes, I am worried about Diablo 3, if they actually manage to successfully make a balanced game, with balanced characters, and skills, it will be great, and will also be the first in the Diablo series to do so, but I guess there is a first for everything.
About the graphics, yeah I guess it could use a little more texture? but what can you do.
one thing they can do is maybe add some sort of filter? something like this sholdnt be too hard, for all you people who want it darker/less colorful it should be easy to implement a filter to do that, or you could simply turn down the color, and up the contrast on your monitor
also keep in mind they could do a lot to the graphics before it comes out, so dont give up hope yet. For example ive seen 3 different Whirl Wind animations from watching videos, they update things a lot.
You felt you had to reassure us you had nothing against Disney? Oh well that's a relief! As a true Disneyphile, no offense taken!
Seriously though, it's hard to really defend the Witch Doctor to someone who just doesn't like them out of personal preference. The toad attack can be seriously stupid or really cool and insidious depending on how you wanna look at it. I happen to think it's cool, personally. I imagine these toads to be not your average kind, but some seriously diseased plague spreading variety that is probably far from what he originally captured in the forests, but likely some magically twisted and altered version. But luckily for you, they are making a serious attempt to distinguish each class from the other to suit different people's playing styles. And even among those who choose to play as the Witch Doctor, they're even making the skills so you don't have to choose certain ones just to have others. Prereqs were mostly dropped if I'm not mistaken as people have long complained about the problems with skill trees.
The Monk I am not so sure of yet. Seems more like a marketing ploy character to draw in a new crowd. Please explain how Karate Kid is going go up against prime evils or duel welding swords ? Just a little curious on that one.
Let's closely examine what you just said here. Basically you said they conceived of something different to attract more people to the game. Because maybe as far as you're concerned, they should continue doing exactly the same thing to only appeal to pre-existing fan base. And your bias against the Monk is pretty obvious when you oversimplify the class and equate to the fucking Karate Kid. Right, let's not assume maybe this Monk has a wide arsenal of weaponry in this magical universe. Let's instead just assume that he's gonna do the crane kick ala Karate Kid 1 and score enough points to win against some blonde haired douchebag at the Cobra Kai! You see why your argument sucks right?
Now it is 2000's decade and game mechanics and computers in general have really come a long ways. SO why can't we have a true 3D game camera? Just because in 1990's decade the tecnology wasn't there. But if you wanted to do a close up for the kill or look where you are going in any direction it should be done. This I do not understand at all. We should be able to move the camera angle and have zoom ability.
I was at least under the impression we would have a zoom ability. But here you are complaining about certain things that are new to the game, while at the same time advocating full camera angle freedom, something that has so never been done in a Diablo game before and maybe for good reason.
I think it would make it alot easier to play and the player would get more of a feel for the visual effects.
How? How would that make the game easier to play? Since when does adding the perspectives in which you can view your character make it any easier than the game automatically adjusting the view for you?
But these things and I know there is so much more of the game none of us know about. And with the same people who made these decesions are doing so for them. What else is not going to have the Diablo feel and lore to it?
This string of sentences made about as much sense to me as fully automatic assault rifles that fire chainsaws. First of all, as someone who has followed the lore of this game very closely since the first Diablo, I think the developers have done a lot to evolve the storyline and make it more complex without adjusting most essential plot elements. I mean, we've all debated the finer points on the nature of the Worldstone, the Soulstones, what the Great Abyss supposedly is, whether Tyrael is fucking evil or not (stupid theory), and even what the deal is with Trag'Oul. But so far in the story of Diablo 3, we're not seeing any huge, glaring continuity problems. Besides that, I'm not sure what it is about the lore that lacks a Diablo feel as far you're concerned. But as far as the game aesthetic itself, and THAT Diablo feel, sure, the game has lost a lot of what it originally was. But things are best as they evolve over time. We may not like all the changes. Even I still complain about things in D2 that are nothing like how great they were in D1. But just because it's a sequel, doesn't mean it has to still be the same game.
What other improvements are not going to be done just because the series was successful. Make it better do not just add content to it make it better. I hope
But really I could see this game going both ways when it finally is relased. I could see it hugely succesfully at first just becasue of it's following and then dropping big time. And it could surprise me. I'm hoping PvP is done right. Maybe it could add a new twist the previous needed so badly.

You missed the point totally on isometric. Of course why would anyone want to see your character from different angles. I play a MMO now that has this and it is extremly vaulable. YOU can see who is coming up from behind. It is just like turning your head and looking in whatever direction you need to.I can scroll in as close as i want or zoom out as far as i want. I can drag the field of play and i go in any direction and see whatever i want. It is very handy. Hell I can even spin the field of play lol. Just because it wasn't in the previous two does't mean it can't be in there now. Like i said make it BETTER than the previous two.
In closing my karate kid mentioning was more a joke . Don't take everything to literally. You might live longer if you smile. see like that lol enjoy life dude we are almost there. Over the hump for sure.
My highest expectations will never be met, that is impossible because what I want is not what the general public wants, or needs.
care to say what that expectation is ? im kind of curious now ^.^ im pretty sure i want a lot of things the general public does not care for, or doesnt consider
All this witch doctor/monk hate comes from only one place: culture diversification on Diablo.
D1 was a completly medial western game. D2 had a bit more variation with the Amazon class since she's not medieval, but since her abilities are very general (elemental attacks and a bunch of passives), she does not have a anti-european visual impact.
This obviously change in D3. Looks like they will use the whole world of sanctuary in much deeper way this time. So, classes will come from all sort of places.
Some people seens to dislike to play a character that are not only a jungle born, but bring the jungle with him.
But the jungle is a part of Diablo lore since act 3 D2. Really, if you kill frogs, why can't you summon then ? If you fight corrupted witch doctors and speak to witch doctor-like npcs, why can't you play then ?
Siaynoq Sorry you did not get the jest of what I was talking about. We will have different views for sure. At least I do not have to take things out of context as you did .

Just pointing out that I'm not sold that it will be as good as the previous two. Or keep it's appeal like they did. But with that said why can't I wish for the best?
You can wish for the best all you want. We all will wish for the best. But why wouldn't we? And people will simply disagree with what you think would make an ideal game, as I have done.
First off Witch Doctor character Who's idea was this? HE has a toad attack for pete sakes people. (Toads!!!) LOL are you kidding me. And I'm like, "Just a minute babe, someone on the internet is wrong about something."
You can wish for the best all you want. We all will wish for the best. But why wouldn't we? And people will simply disagree with what you think would make an ideal game, as I have done.
