I don't know if this has been brought up before, i'm sure it has been at least mentioned somewhere. However, what bugs me about the skills in diablo 3, is that its not 0/20 across the board like in D2, there are 0/5 0/10 0/20 Skills, similar to the WoW talent trees.
Yes i know it puts me in the category of "zomg too much like WoW" but really its just my preference. One thing i loved about D2 was the ability to pump skills up to rediculous amounts. Another fear is that they may do away with + to skills, so we won't see 30/20 or 10/5 type skills...
Anyone else have a similar or opposite opinnion, i'd like to hear it.
I was actually happily surprised to see this change.
Think about this: Instead of having to waste 20 points to get your preferred skill up to max, it would max out with the same stats at 5 points of pumping. This would allow you all those other points to dedicate to other, more time consuming skills.
Just a thought.

It's time to welcome the other 80% of the color wheel to a Diablo game.

No dartaris, i completely agree with your statement. To be honest, i would hate to see Diablo 3 come out with similar type tree's and what not to WoW. If there were similar talent tree's or atleast the same way they did Diablo 2, i think alot more people were prefer it.

Yeah this is pretty clever thinking of blizzard to do that way instead of following D2 path of 0/20 everything.

that would be fine if the max level stats for the skills is the same if the max skill level is 10 or 20.
however, if stats for the skill at max 10 is = to the stats for the skill at level 10 but max level 20, which would you want?

Sorry i kind of disagree with that, considering if the level limit was somewhat, lets say 99 again. That would give you more than enough points to max almost everything you actually needed, instead of actually specialising in a certain talent or tree.

alright man chill, they are improving on old idea's okay? this will enable players to have more spread out skill tree's and what makes you think just cause its 0/5 instead of 0/20 that its not as powerful(if not more) at max? if you honestly liked how everything was 0/20 shame on you, who the hell needs teleport up to 20.
It has been likened to the barb warcries. In D2, you would have to invest 60 skill points to max out the warcries and their synergies. What if, in D3, you could max out your warcries with 30 points (to a similar power level as 60), then it frees up points and opens up more build variations. You might be able to put some other points in Natural Resist or Iron Skin or your attacks. As long as we can achieve similar strengths and balances, then its a good change IMo.
Well tenacios, lets say its 99 lvls again... if it was of 5 points, you could do what someone previously said,, just get everything and you wouldn't be specialized at all. hoorah for customization and uniqueness isn't that what blizzard is after?? well everyone is running around with the same level skills and there are no different builds.

Yeah different builds that soon become a must build that is the only one that works and I can't imagine being asked what is your build everytime I join a game.
As long as I can create stupid builds in the future. Like summon druids, Holy bolt paladins, item find barbs. Adopting the skill sytem from WoW isn't too bad, as long as the game is still capable of experimenting with your choice of specialized skill. Sure combos are nice, but everyone still has 1-3 main skills they use. Please don't ruin that.
It is worth considering that we do not know how often we get skill points in Diablo III. Even if we assume get them every level--and that we could earn 100ish by the level cap--I still don't think we'd be able to max every skill.
Even in increments of 5, 10, and 20, that's 35 points to max three skills. If characters have close to the 30 skill choices they had in Diablo II, I could easily see players being able to only max about 1/3 of them.
Finally, I would hope this would mean we'd see a more pronounced difference for each skill point in those skills with only 5 levels. Or perhaps you cannot put a skill point in those skills as frequently. Maybe you have to be a certain character level or something.

i highly doubt majority of the skills will be 5 do you think they are retards? do you have no faith whatsoever in blizzard continueing this franchise with nothing more then an outstanding game?
i mean the way you question them its like you take them to be some amateur gaming company that has no titles under their belt.
me and my bro hated it like that i like where u dont have to focus on one skill to be good just do what u want it annoyed the crap out of me damn wow complainers

This is really a misleading thing to say.
The idea of 'build variation' requires an opportunity cost for each point you invest in a skill. In other words, each time you upgrade a skill, there are different skills that you CANNOT upgrade. If you could upgrade all of your skills, then there is no reason to have a skill tree in the first place, since everyone will have everything and unique builds will be impossible.

I won't argue with that, but I still find the notion that we will be able to max all skills by the level cap just because some have a max of 5 ranks a faulty assumption.
Can I see a picture of this? Where did you hear all this? I didn't see anything involving how the Skill Tree was set up; some one fill me in source-wise? =/

Blizzard is not responsible for the death and loss of your hardcore characters for any reason including Internet lag, bugs, Acts of God, your little sister, or any other reason whatsoever. Consult the End User License Agreement for more details. Blizzard will not, and does not have the capability to restore any deceased Hardcore characters. Don't even ask. La-la-la-la-la, we can't hear you..,
Was there new info released today about skills? I'm wondering how you guys know that skills are different in D3 like you said.
That said, I'm all for the change. I hated having to put 20 points into skills, I thought it didn't give you a nearly wide enough array of cool skills. It was just spam one skill the whole time.

In the combat video, if you frame-by-frame during the times the players are changing skills, you can see the skill info.
