So I have been reading alot of "Dont bring that WoW crap in here" "Dont make this WoW 2" comments and I have to say i agree, kinda. While I dont like the cartooony aspect of WoW, or how it promotes little twelve year olds to come pretend they are old and baddass, I have to say it has some things that I would love to see in Diablo 3. For one the inventory system, it was quick, fast effective and fun, I hate having to move them damn spears around before every boss just to make sure i can pick something up. The second thing I would love you see is the WoW Chat/Friends interface. Once again, it's polished, effective, fast and easy, I hate having to type /whisper *accountname message every time i need to whisper someone, it's get annoying. So in conclusion alot of the aspects WoW are bad and should never be placed in a D3 game (I better not see arena's in D3), but the smaller polished and proven aspects of WoW could actually help D3 in many ways. Diablo 2 was awesome but even the hardcore fans have to admit it had flaws and those flaws can be fixed, improved or polished by using WoW or other new modern games as an example.
i think lots of those comments are from people who didn't play wow, and think its cool to bash the game. But in some aspects yea..shouldn't be the exact same as wow(arena, cartoony graphics--which d3 doesn't have thank god. etc) I think people are being a little too harsh as well.

I disagree about using WoW graphics in a Diablo game.
But I agree about the UI changes.

Please don't mix them up, they go so wrong together.
plus, there are other RPG's out there that give other and better solutions to the problems of D1&D2.
Take the inventory, some of us love tetris inventory, why? cause it little more real and we like to watch the cool art of the item.
by "real" I mean: does ring take the same space as a spear? of course no.
and a solution for the no space in inventory while you have - game adresses it by auto arrange button. (sacred)

I agree The gameplay is way diffrent and should be but small aspects such as the chat interface can be transfered through any genre.
Bringing in those 'mechanical' improvements isn't a bad thing. The trade system in D2 sucked and something similar to an AH would be a huge improvement, for example. What we don't want to see is generic classes with no unique skills; generic, bright, happy areas; mind-numbing repetitive quests and all the other things that make WoW loved and hated by so many. For the most part Blizzard has done a good job with D3, but seeing those graphics is enough to drive some of us into an anti-WoW frenzy.
Well I believe most of the comments are related to the appearance, not to do with game mechanics. That's not really a taste of WoW even, those are just advancements and innovations in gaming over the years. I'm pretty sure most people would be happy to have a simple friends list and not having to /whisper constantly and using old commands.
I don't know how I feel about the WoWish appearance of the game. I haven't really seen enough of it to make my own conclusion, I would like to see later areas of the game before then. But improvements to the user interface like being able to simply right click a name in your friends list and join their game would be nice, WoW didn't invent a lot of these things though... they are definitely welcome.
I think some aspects of WoW are great, like you said the friends interface. In terms of MMO WoW made a big difference by making a better and more playable MMO. (MMO's really suck though)
In D3, there's a big difference between the two. So they really shouldn't be looking at WoW for references on everything (whether they do or not, I don't know but looking at what they present makes you REALLY wonder...). THOUGH some aspects do kind of fit in to make a better experience like you said.
Personally I think some kind of Arena games could be fun, but NOTHING like WoW's Arena. I was thinking more like a Gladiator Arena... hehe.

implimenting the /r to reply system would be extremely handy, the one thing i never liked about the friends list of d2 is the fact that you had to be on the friends list of the person you add to be able to see them come online, it was rediculous and inconvenient.
Agreed. Keep the WoW and Diablo universes separate
I don't completely agree. WoW's talent system is obviously built off the D2 skill tree system, for example. If WoW can take a mechanic from diablo and expand on it to fit their world, I see no reason why D3 can't do it in the opposite direction. I'm not talking about seeing orcs running around in Sanctuary, but subtle gameplay mechanics.

I am alright with a few tweaks in the Diablo game mechanics, since WoW does have some features that overshadow Diablo's. I just don't want something brought in from the WoW storyline, like Orcs as you said, into the Diablo storyline just because some people arn't used to playing the Diablo series. Some change is good, but nothing dramatic is what I'm trying to say.
ermm wow can take every mechanic he wants from D2 or D3
but I don't want it opposite
Well, we've already been shown the ability to choose gender for each class, and that's done in WoW. Does that mean we shouldn't use it, just because WoW does?
The point I'm trying to make is that WoW is the sum of all its parts. A few mechanics (if they are indeed improvements) should not be feared, simply because they were used in WoW. Judge each feature on its own merits, without retreating to the WoW argument.

I said I didnt like WoW's graphics, or are you saying you do want wowish graphics?

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
