Well what I mean is, with some suggestion such as classes, items, etc etc it would effect the game. This would be purely cosmetic. It's a nice idea but meh.
That's not what I'm saying at all, I'm just saying if they were going to do this it would of been easier to do earlier on. Now they have more important things to hammer out with the gameplay and content.
Well now they're focusing on content, like quests, monsters, spell balancing, things like that.
I just think if they were going to go this route it would of been easier to decide how items look on someones back/side BEFORE making the items. So while making the items you'd have that in mind.
"How would this look on your side, or your back, where would it look better."
Now I think if they did it they'd have some weapons that were too large and clash and they'd have to remodel the weapons or skimp on the way it's done a little.
I just think it could of been much easier done and more well done earlier on.
Even a simple item like a short sword is going to look different in 3D. They have to set parameters so the item textures don't clash. Like when the Barbarian runs his axe or sword that's at his side doesn't go through his thigh. On the other end, they can't set the items to be too far away or else it will just look silly floating outward away from the leg.
In order to do it nicely they'd have to make each items allowance different depending on the size and shape.
Then we have items like a flail, how is that going to look and where is it going to be placed? Would it be a back or side item? The chain and ball is going to look funny dangling anywhere you put it. Items like a morning star and flail weren't meant to be sheathed unless you were heavily armored. Or else the spikes would stick you and the flail would dangle in your way.
If there are very minor clipping issues then it'd be fine. I don't want to walk around looking like a jumbled mess of swords and axes protruding from every inch of my body.

Things could be shown equipped straight down your back, on either side of your back or on both sides of your waist.
If they decide to add it, awesome, that's great.
