This is the word from "Game Over, Yeah" Diablo 3 IS In Early Development At Blizzard, "World of" Ideas Also Touted
From Wratty @ 7/21/2007 01:50:00 PM
Before we go any further let us set the record straight about the story we are about to post.
We don't care about Diablo because we never really got into the games, and we're too busy using our PC's for "other" activities
We aren't doing this to get hits, we don't do that and never have - this is a blog from two chaps who like playing video games and that is it
We don't make money from this site and we detest hit grabbing sites as much as the next person
We DO know people who work within the video games industry, lets face it most people do
We don't lie - we simply tell you what we have been told from someone who works at Blizzard and we DO trust them
We're writing this because we think it is fair that the public know. The Blizzard employee we were told by does not mind, and in all honesty Blizzard aren't revealing anything about it because they don't want to get hopes up and divert attention away from the upcoming StarCraft 2.
Now for the news...
We have been informed that Blizzard are indeed in the early development stages of the next in the series of their most loved titles, this being Diablo 3. This Blizzard employee has told us on numerous occasions of progress and how proud the company are of it so far. The game is not even at 10% completion yet but they have a decent engine for it - the specifics of us to which have not been revealed.
They have completed a demonstration of the first half of the first chapter of the game. However with StarCraft 2 on the horizon there is not much development time allocated to the title. Once StarCraft 2 is out of the door then we shall see the development ramp up and we can expect to hear more about the game. The likely release for the game at the moment has been speculated as 2009/2010.
Most of this is obvious to those of you who have great faith in Blizzard and understand that they would want to develop another title in the Diablo universe. It is dearly loved and they want to bring you a game that will hold up to the high standards of the previous titles in the series. For now rest assured that it is coming but only when it is deemed ready by the company.
It should also be noted that the company has toyed with extending their "World of" brand to the StarCraft and Diablo series. Yes it would work however the company does not believe it to be necessary for several (again obvious) reasons. These being that World of Warcraft is hugely successful and does not need another title from the same company aimed at the same demographic right now. The overhead involved with such development has also been deemed unattainable at this moment in time. Finally the Diablo and StarCraft properties do not require this style of game this moment in time, their natural course of development is to stick with the previous game genre.
So that's the story. Please take it as you will but please remember that we're only reporting what we have been told and that it has taken us several weeks to decide whether or not to post this information. We're both fortunate and unfortunate in that we are fairly anonymous in the video gaming world. Fortunate in that we are able to post this sort of news without having to worry about NDAs etc. Unfortunate in that we are just another blog in a vastly overcrowded and untrusted area of the internet."

theres the link to anyone who wishes to check it out for themselves, sounds pretty good for the development of Diablo 3 and saying basically "World of Diablo" will not happ anytime soon IF ever. Now I don't know how good this info is, but I believe it is a boost of convidence for me.. but who knows if this info is legit.. Any have different speculations?
Interesting but that image of Diablo 3 looks vaguely familiar...
(it's several years old and debunked as fan art)
The split in development time doesn't seem to gel with blizzard's admission of 3 separate teams. Maybe some worked across teams. The rest of it seems sensible and logical and not really anything we don't know, except I feel strangely comforted by the part about no "world of" even if it is speculation.
Of course by stating that it will be released in 2009/2010 basically gaurantees them no way of being called liars. Even if they aren't working on it now, they surely will be by then.
Lol yeah thats a good point goodguy... What also makes me confident of this though is that they say they don't really care about the game too much but are just posting relevant info.. I know we don't know really how close these guys are to Blizz if they are at all... but it is fairly good news on the subject of that. And yes the no "world of" anytime soon sounds VERY comforting.
I'm sticking with Diablo 3 at Blizzcon and being more than 10% complete.
This info seems unreliable because it says that they will start really cranking on D3 once Sc2 is out the door... Why would that happen when Blizzard has seperate teams on seperate projects?
Oh, and "We don't care much about Diablo games... but we will sit here and tell you everything we know because we have nothing better to do..."
What is that... If I had insider info on any game I didn't care about I could give a F*ck less and I surely wouldn't spend time typing it up.
This year is Diablo's 10 year anniversary... something is going down!

there are definatly holes in this story, like previously mentioned, the 3 team aspect. anyone on the internet can make things up. by them pointing these people out, it may make them look like the opposite however liers think like liers. there is really no hard evidence to show they are telling the truth. i do beleive that diablo 3 is more complete then 10%, you know blizzard hasnt been wasting time (which is money for them) by sitting around not making another huge hit title in the diablo franchise.
You know... now that you mentioned it Little Boy.. I do gotta say that.. but I still believe this has some kind of relevance to it lol.. Although I don't think its only 10% done.. I think thats thrown in there to kind of piss off the fans a lil maybe... kinda juice em up for Blizzcon announce it and say summer 2008 or something like that... Me personally I think it will be done by the end of Summer 08... But thats my opinion
Well... I have no choice but to argue with it... 10% isn't a big enough number for me. I want D3 to be a hack and slash game more than an MMO (I guess), but I'd rather play something soon rather than wait a couple years and lose enthusiasm, interest in the game altogether and play nothing at all.
But you may be right that 10% may just be in there to throw us off. Only time will tell....
Summer 2008 or sooner would be perfect for me... Diablo the Sh*t out of the game and then off to college I go!

IMO this is just another way for Blizzard to create more hype for Blizzcon and more controversy..... they really like making surprises and how better than tricking the public of a release date?

bleh, i remember seeing a blizzard guy stating they had 40 people on SC2 and 40 people on TEAM 3, if team 3 is D3, then there is ALOT of development time.
From them saying they don't like the game or care about it, what hypocrits, why even bother to type / post the info imo.
I believe this is fake, the only reason is because the Blizz north team was making another Diablo type game, before the main creators of D1 and D2 left, and the Blizz North team moved to Irvine.
They have and are making another diablo game, i don't know who said it, but SC 2 was being worked on After Wc3: TFT- before WoW was even released...
It is highly plausible to be making another Diablo game, cause remember the Blizz North team wasn't completely disbanded. If Blizz could be making WoW(huge god damn effort apparently) and SC 2 at the same time, there is no doubt that D3 or another Diablo game could be in the making.
IMO this is just another way for Blizzard to create more hype for Blizzcon and more controversy..... they really like making surprises and how better than tricking the public of a release date?
I agree 100%, it's a diversion. It's closer than people believe, I think around the time SC2 is released. Because if I'm not mistaken Diablo II was a bigger hit than SC... I don't know the exact numbers but I think its how it was.

why would someone have any interest if they dont care about the game?
it sounds alot more like hit grabbing than anything
most people DONT know people in the game industry, most people play the games.
most if not all is lies
i doubt the blizzard employee does not mind, when blizzard finds out who it was and starts sueing and firing, im pretty sure the employee will mind.

i agree with the early stages part.
maybe its not at 10 percent yet, but do games really take 2-3 years to make? they arent exactly hollywood movies.
im not %100 sure on this, but isnt the engine the foundation of a game? if they got the engine, i dont know why it would take 2-3 years to make.
They have completed a demonstration of the first half of the first chapter of the game. However with StarCraft 2 on the horizon there is not much development time allocated to the title. im pretty sure the demonstration part is just added to make them seem more credible.
there are three teams working on different projects, the SC2 team and the "unannounced project" teams are of equal size so that statement of time allocation is retarded.
again, why would it take 2-3 years on the game if they already got the foundations worked out?
bogus picture, definately takes away from their credibility.

they are not just reporting, because we've all heard the story about a blizzard mole leaking out info to them.
why would it take several weeks to decide to post or not if they believed that they people really did need to know.
there is a reason why they "are just another blog in a vastly overcrowded and untrusted area of the internet" and that is because they are stupid and cant pull the weight of a real information site. below is exactly what they want, a link leading thousands of people to check their site.
