One aspect clearly missing from Diablo 2 that exists in many other games is an in-game language filter. I play these games for fun and enjoyment, and I find no joy having to listen to little kiddies through temper tantrums when they don't get what they want.
Just yesterday my brother and I got online and made a game called "Act 4Hell". One person comes in and starts asking us over and over for a rush. My brother, who is more mature than me, even kindly states to them that we are already in Act4 and unable to do it. So how does he respond? He goes "Well f*** you you N***" and leaves. Sure he left, but we would much rather have seen him get booted off of Bnet for some time.
I also believe strongly that while the devs are working to make this game more coop, controls should still be inacted to basically force and encourage players to act accordingly. Sad it has to be this way, but my feeling is if kids can not act mature, then the game should have some filter to insure they do not incroach in other's entertainment.
Basically if you are a mature individual, this will never intrude on you. Better yet, you will no longer have to listen to immature brats who need a good smack on the head.

It's an 18+ game, just deal with it like everyone else. Even the best language filter is easy to get around on.
That sounds like the type of encounter I would laugh about.
That said I certainly enjoy cursing, but when people use the internet as a place to show off that they can say whatever they want because they are behind a shroud of anonymity it kind of erks me. If you wouldn't say it on the street, dont say it.
Anyways I'm fine with filters as long as they can be toggled.
Dude, stop... just stop and pay attention to the game name, this is not kindergarten, and it's not about being mature either, grown-ups also say the F word you know.
It's incredible... nowsdays everything is a reason to ruin other people entertainment, graphics ruins my entertainment, pk's ruins my entertainment, and now cursing ruins my entertainment, what's next?
Get real, folks, the diablo you all knew is dead, a few years ago i said right here in this forum that D3 had a pretty good chance of being blizzard first bust (i was flamed to death ofc), and what you know, its not even beta and its already looking that way.
There should be options to boot players if you wish to, but it would have to be a majority vote.
NO, period.
Example: I join a duel-game, wipe the floor with everyone - majority sucks balls and they vote to kick me. Great idea buddy, I can go on and on, on how that sucks.

This is not as much about saying the f-bomb, but more so the rather more personally offensive racist remarks. I may be neither African American nor Jewish, but having to listen to what seems the number one insult on bnet, the n-word, kiddies have lost the right in my opinion. Sorry if you do not partake in that type of behavior, but the rest have ruined it.
No, I am not thinking of immediate temp bans for saying one f-bomb. But repeated abuse should be punished. Other games do this. Go on to any random AA: Special Forces server and start shouting "F***k you N***rs" and see how long you last? Same goes for any COD server. The end result is that gameplay is actually enhanced. It weeds out first and foremost the immature brats and troublemakers.
It sounds to me like most of you just want to enjoy the anonymity of the internet to act out like 12 year olds. Fine, do that on your facebook or whatever is the craze today. But I should not have to listen to racists rants, period. I find it quite ironic that D2 forums usually get filled with rants about "pubs" and the overall behavior of Bnet players. Well, how can the D2 community not want something that will force the kiddies to act like adults?
LOL, you actually think a language filter would work as intended? You still know what they're saying and they can easily get around it. Waste of development time, every language filter I've seen has never worked to actually filter the words correctly if someone is trying to get around it.
D1 and D2 were rated M, if you let your 13 year old play it you assume responsability for anything he might see or hear in an M rated game. Don't try to pass of your responsability as a parent to Blizzard. If your kid learns swear words from Diablo that is your fault not Blizzard's.
Well said, it seems way too many parents these days are letting their young kids play M-Rated games and are pointing the finger at the developers. Yet, it's OBVIOUSLY their fault.
Very few swear words in diablo its the other players I don't want him to learn them from seeing just about every new or cool gotta have game is M or higher I am still all for a filter, atlease till I have power and controll over ever other person on the planet. IMHO there is no reason to drop F-bombs in a game where you don't know how old the other people are it doesn't impress me I don't stare at you in awe and wonder at your command of the english Language, it doesn't make your point any clearer so filters are Okay with me.

The rated M was for the violence of the game.
But again, I am more concerned with having to listen to racist little *#&@ going off. I have seen no other game where the N-word is used so freely. That is offensive to me as a mature adult. Maybe this does not intrude on your 15 year old sensibilities, but it does to civilized people, and we should not have to put up with your lack of education. You want to talk that way, good go join some neo-nazi group.
Curse words do make your point clearer sometimes. You can't deny that their existance has meaning. By society (you included) being all scared and rejecting them, it gives them some sort of power. Used correctly curse words can be used to emphasize things because of this power placed on them by everyone. ufck ckfu kcfu fuck BILLY COVER YOUR EYES!!!

It's only real effect is to show what trash the person is. Why should anyone even care, you shouldn't be talking like this anyways. Do kids actually think this is the real word? This is how adults speak? Well maybe in some trashy areas in rural mountains where brothers and sisters are husband and wife, but not where I am from.
All I have to say is wow, if you kids really think using the f-word is "cool" and hip, I just feel sorry for you. And stupid little kids wonder why adults won't give them more freedom, why they have curfews, driving ages, drinking ages, etc...well DUH!

I'm 21, I work as a Network Engineer for a massive banking insitution and I have 4 years of high level college/university education. Offensive language DOES NOT offend me, but of course that's because I'm a Nazi, right? Calling people Nazi's is very civilized right - I forgot, I think you're a hypocrite, just a little!
If you guys are so adult why don´t ignore text words? It only proves your ignorance and ability to get controlled by the player that keeps cursing, words are meaningless unless they are spoken by the player, you can´t see any emotion in text words can you?
Wow, co-sign.
I am astounded that an 'adult' is asking to squelch the kids, LOL. You are the adult, as stated before, why can't you just eh..ignore it? (plus, if it really bothers u...isn't there a squelch option for players anyway?)
I think that this would be taking it just a little too far, guys.

Yea and it's kinda useless. I mean, you still KNOW he his cursing at you. A realmdown when you curse too much maybe, but thats kinda nazy.
I think not.
Watch that, you might learn a thing or 2
