I recently started playing Diablo III again. I was strictly a solo player, however I decided that this time around I will try group play. After a few weeks of this I have noticed some things and have a comment about group play.
In public games, I notice that people spend a lot of time between runs to play what I call dress up hero. They all leave the rift or grift (some cases even after a trial) and start running to the GEM, FORGE, or Enchanter. I am sorry, I do not see that many upgrades that require me to change my gear out.
At first I thought this was just a few people that I was running with (Guild members) however, I found that many players do this and it is consistent enough that I started question people, asking them just what they do after each run that requires so much time after the run. A run takes about 5-10 minutes however many times I will end up waiting about 10 minutes after a run for the group to do the next run.
So, I decided to see how much EXP I could earn running solo very this strange odd dress up hero group mentality that exists. What I found is that I can earn more EXP on my own then running with a group. I suspect that if I got into a group that actually played the game and did not worry so much about dress up hero that my findings would be wrong. However, to this day I have yet to find a group that does not have so much down time between runs.
It's hard to tell what people are doing, really. Some of them have issues with low materials, and perhaps after each run, they throw their new-found mats directly at their gear. You'll run into this more with either low para players, or players with new-ish characters that require more tweaking.
I doubt very many people are playing around with Xmogs, however. I rarely see people doing that.
The best approach is to relay your desire to start a new rift, and if nobody responds or they're otherwise taking too long, start a new rift and go on in. People hate to hear elites being aggro'd while they're in town. Think of it as a friendly kick in the rear.
I know this much; aggro a goblin and they come running pretty fast.
Public games; Though I enjoy doing them from time to time (a great way to meet new players and expose yourself to others), pub games can be (will be) a mishmash of all variety of players. From elite players to newbies, smart Diablo players with a high d3 acumen to actual, legitimately mentally disabled people, adults and children alike.
If you're in a bad group, just kindly leave and find a new game. It never hurts to inform people that they're behaving badly or rudely, though be prepared to feel their wrath.
Mostly it's people who loot everything they see and then have to check one by one to see if any of it is good, then salvage and put it all into the stash, repair their gear, etc. Yes this can all be done quickly but people are just slow and indecisive. If you want them to pick up the pace, don't wait for them so long.

Yep. Providing your character is strong enough, just jump right on in and they'll wrap it up pretty quickly.
I hear you, I hardly play with groups, but would like to gain some more friends. I am also a Chicagoan, shoot me your battle tag. If I run rifts we go, salvage and repair and on to the next! I want to get my killing in, not sit around in town. I'm paragon 615, took a little break, but ready and excited for the new patch.
This is why i dislike playing with random publics as well. So much time wasted between rifts. I have a couple of friends with whom I play usually. If they aren't online, I either play solo and get bored really fast, or not play at all.
If I join a public group, if they don't open the new rift, I do and go in. But, the ones I despise the most are the ones that portal to town after rift boss kill, close the rift and leave the game immediately...

Thanks for the response. Would be nice to fight beside a fellow Chicagoan. My Battle Tag is Romonaga#1966
A suggested here, I give them a few minutes to collect thoughts then I start a new GRIFT or new RIFT. It seems to motivate people a bit. I now question if people are just unsure as to if they should start the next rift.

Some folks are followers, some are leaders. In a 4 man game, someone needs to be a leader. I know what you're meaning, that sometimes all 4 players will be standing by the obelisk waiting for someone to click it.....awkward. Reminds me of when 4 people stop at a stop sign simultaneously, and they all just sit there waiting for someone to make the call.
This issue also shows itself during runs. Where sometimes we have too many chiefs and not enough injuns. Where you have more than 1 "leader" type You know the deal, where at least one player refuses to follow the lead of another, always turning right when the group goes left.
The only time I ever play public games is to split farm caches - as in those games everyone is supposed to do their own thing. group play for rifts is too frustrating - especially when it only takes about 30 seconds at the most to get a full group of people from your clan or community. When you play with ppl you know - you can easily communicate who is doing what. You can also set up games for 'speed farming' - where it is understood that there is no standing around in between rifts. but that's just me.

This is what I expected to see. As soon as a rift is closed, repair and get back to killing monsters.

Public games are a pure form of crap-shoot.

From experience it's not a lot of playing with xmog, I get called a weirdo for changing up my xmog between every rift by everyone I know.
