It might seem a little bit stupid but ye all talk about snapshotting the firebird buff with blackhole and strongarm.
As far as i understand it , you trigger the infinity dot of firebird in the time when the strongarm debuff is still active, this would result in an overall increase of firebird ticks by the % of the strongarms you got . (at least this is as i understand it)
So as i was testing it out, it seems i cannot reproduce this on a regular basis.
Either my timing is off or iam doing something completly wrong. However it is also difficult to really test this.
In general if i dont do anything on a RG except let the firebird tick, its about 80~90 mil. but if i push hydra, blizzard and blackhole on top of that it sometimes ticks up to 180 mil.
So since the blackhole damage bonus is added to my default 80~90 mil ticks i assume iam not snapshotting correctly (because if i did, the damage gain would not be that significant, right? - you cant apply strongarm bracers buff 2 times?!)
anyways, hope you understood what i mean.
Thing is: please explain that snapshotting to me, and especially how i can verify / test / train it in a controlled environment
makes sense, wasnt sure about that. But that explains why elites regularly tick for 160 mil and Guardians dont.
thanks. that was a wrong assumption on my side.
so in general, if i start with blackhole and then drop hydra and blizzard, the 3000% damage should be applied in ~5 seconds and then snapshot the 30% from strongarms? there is no special timing required?
as far as I know blackhole in connection with strongarm bracers doesn't work on Rift Guardians - because they simply aren't knockbacked. You should try it on elite packs.
You have to physically move the mob for Strongarms to trigger, too; Just casting it directly on the mob does nothing. It's why Black Hole is VERY commonly on right click.
Stack up as much elite dmg as you can, it helps stack it faster. I think it's almost imposible to stack full dot (9000%dmg) within 5seconds if you don't have elite dmg on gear.
Fire damage, Elite damage both are good. Fire damage actually works a bit better (works on trash, too) But Elite damage is multiplicative, and doesn't "DR" like Fire damage % does; So the majority of wizards prefer Elite damage.

He was referring to the fact that elite dmg% increases the amount of damage you deal, but doesn't increase how much you need to deal to trigger the infinite dot. So it does make you hit infinite faster.
Fire% dmg on the other hand both increases the damage you deal, but also the required amount of damage to trigger the infinite dot. So while you will still have a larger dot, just like elite%, you will have to deal more damage to the enemy in order to activate it.
The only context in which this matters is for short-term buffs/debuffs like strongarms or bonechill because no matter how you're geared the infinite dot is usually up within a matter of seconds.

Are you sure this is so? I've never heard this before now.
