How much dps and toughness are you stacking, and on what torment level are you playing?
Right now, I'm sitting around :
- dps : 1.1M, +95% fire (fire build)
- toughness : 9M for 270k hp (standing still with unwavering will) + dominance
I'm soloing T3 comfortably, T4 being considerably less efficient mostly because I have to move around a lot more. I have yet to try the higher torment levels (except for the occasional T6 Hell Rift which is easy to solo).
Melting faces just fine at T4 with specific melee build (4p Tal Rasha's + Wand of Woh + Moonlight Ward). T5 still appears to be not efficient to farm, but with a little more CDR and right stats on RoRG, I think I'll start killing things much more faster there.
Do people not run with any +elite damage? See most people list Sheet DPS +ele and +skill but not much +elite; is it considered a bad stat?
+Elite damage isn't a bad stat at all, and I would consider it pretty important at higher torments. I find trash mobs will die quickly no matter what the difficulty and it's always the elites that can tank your hits a bit that you need to worry about. If you don’t kill them quickly it just gives them more opportunity to wreck your shit with jailer, arcane sentries, walls, etc.
Doing T4 solo with the below but usually spec up with magic find gear and drop down to T2-3 for group play. T5 is also doable but elite Corrupted Angels will ruin my day (running fire build)
unbuffed 640k sheet DPS (1.1 million buffed), +103% fire damage, +83% elite damage.
Torment V Molten explosions hit for approximately 18 million damage, I believe. So if you're under 18M toughness on sheet, you'll get 1-shot. My personal goal for any difficulty is to be able to withstand at least one Molten explosion at point blank range, even if it's unnecessary (just move out of the way or cast Event Horizon, right?). I'm close to 20M sheet toughness buffed with 98% damage reduction and that's not enough to withstand a Molten explosion on Torment VI.
Just remember not to stack toughness with vitality/life% alone. Damage reduction first; can't stress that enough. Too much life toughness causes healing issues.
As for DPS, I normally do approximately 40-45M eDPS (1.5M sheet buffed, 40%+ arcane, ~30% AT, 15% elite until I get SoJ) with my Cascade-Tal's build. That comes down to around 15-30 seconds per elite kill on Torment VI, depending on affixes and mob type.
I would say t4 requires approximately 10 million toughness. It would depend on your Dps (!), defensive passives, healing, HP, all kinds of things. Take the 10 million merely as a starting point.

Actual in-game numbers with EA (which can be changed to storm armor for even more DPS) + MW (deflection rune is awesome!) up:
Damage - 963k (elemental elite should be at 1.6 mil; paragon off. points - 50/50 CDR, 31/50 crit damage)
Toughness - 12.2mil (paragon def. points - 31/50 resist all, 50/50 life regen)
