So I just got a new weapon to drop today, but it sadly didn't have a socket. I took a look through everything and I'm having a hard time picking a property to discard. I was hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.New weapon:http://imgur.com/kFmX1a9
I believe that the Monster XP can be replaced with a socket. If not, then the Attack Speed stat.
Monster XP is a secondary stat and sockets are a primary stat, therefore it's not possible to replace monster XP with a socket.
Without knowing your crit chance/crit damage, I think it's still safe to say that you should leave the crit damage alone. EDIT: Actually, crit damage may be the weakest stat if you already have a lot of crit damage and/or a low crit %. Sorry, I can't check your gear right now.
I would pick attack speed to re-roll if you are comfortable with your proc rates and aren't near a channeled spell breakpoint (for disintegrate, twister, etc).
If you want 6% more life on hit or procs, or you are near to an attack speed break point, I would re-roll the 7% damage and keep the attack speed. You will lose a small bit more damage than if you kept the 7% damage and lost the attack speed, though.
600 Intelligence is too important to lose, it probably accounts for ~10% of your damage.
Thank you for the help. I think I need to do some more reading as I'm not sure what break points, if any, that I'm close to. I'm not even sure what I should be going for to be hones. That being said, I know you were not able to check armory but I'm at 32% Crit Chance. Is there a good goal to have in mind on what to get? As well as what to balance Crit Dmg around? I read somewhere that 1:10 is a good balance, no clue if that is even accurate at all. I've been away from the game for awhile, and even more so that I'm new to Wiz. You have already given me a great starting point, any other info you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
1:10 is just a ballpark figure that explains why a certain stat gives you more overall damage. For example, consider an amulet with 100% CHD (crit hit damage) and one with 10% CC (crit chance). If you have 20% CC and 400% CHD, the second amulet with CC will provide you with more DPS. If you are at 40% CC and 200% CHD, the first amulet will certainly be better. Those two stats are usually "balanced" if you have a 1:10 ratio. However, in general just go with whatever gives you more sheet DPS, for one exception: if you have arcane power on crit (APoC) items, it might be worthwhile to prefer CC over CHD. I wouldn't sacrifice too much, but if it's just a small difference (something like 1% less sheet DPS), the CC might be better because it gives more APoC procs and therefore more Arcane Power and therefore more DPS.
I think I'm gonna drop the CHD and try for a socket on it. I'd be losing a free 30% but I can resocket it to a min of 130% currently and effectively gain 100% and get to keep the IAS. I also got some pretty decent pants with increased dmg on spectral blade so I've been trying it out some. The IAS should help with procing more Barrier Blades. Anything anyone else would like to add or correct me on? I still have a lot to learn.
Sorry to hijack thread, but I have the same question in regards to a different weapon:
I am an arcane mage, and I have 2-3 items that add "arcane skills deal XX% more damage".
My current highest dps weapon has a property "+1200-1450 dmg as cold"
Should I change this property to inflict arcane damage instead of cold damage? If not, it also has a runspeed property that Im thinking of turning into a socket. Which should I do? Thx!
Any weapon without a socket is garbage. Re-roll for that socket, or it's a bust.
EDIT: Drop the IAS...
Any particular reason as to why the IAS? Would I not be better keeping it on there to re-roll the CHD? I know that I would in theory lose that 30%, but I could have a net gain of about 100% right now and keep the IAS. I could increase that 100% by more assuming I spend the money on upgrading the gems and get the pattern.

You have no other items granting you IAS. I'd spec your build around not needing IAS and just roll with all the crit damage you can get. That may change down the line, but with your setup I'd take +32% CHD over +6% IAS any day.
EDIT: Keep in mind you have a 32% CHC...that's one of your higher stats. Take advantage of that and go +CHD. Get more CHC too if you can.

Mages don't need to alter their weapon damage because their spells all override the base damage on weapons. In fact, it may be better to keep your weapon damage different than your spells for the "Elemental Exposure" passive.
A socket is highly desirable on weapons because of emeralds, rubies, and even diamonds adding a ton of effective damage.
Keep in mind that run speed is effectively 10 intelligence per % of run speed, but since run speed mods cap out at 12%, I think it's safe to re-roll effectively 120 intelligence into a socket. This is assuming the run speed is available for enchanting- sometimes 'weird' mods that don't normally belong on gear can't be re-rolled.
