It's no surprise that certain legendarys from pre 2.0 are competitive even with 70. So, just for fun, I thought I'd make a list of Legacy legendaries probably worth picking up while you still can get them:
Chantodo's WIll: One of the only weapon in the games with ApoC post 2.0. While the damage will be eclipsed around 63-64 (possibly slightly longer), a socketed Chantodos with 10 ApoC will work well until then.
Frostburn Gauntlets: While lacking any intelligence, pre 2.0 Frosties have an amazing 30% increased cold damage instead of the 10% on post 2.0 Frosties. Plus, you can buy them cheaply.
Storm Crow: An Open Socket Storm Crow with 9-10 ApoC will likely serve you till 70. In RoS, you may only roll up to 4 Primary affixes, meaning you can roll 1 socket, Int, ApoC and something else. Storm Crows "come standard" with Int, ApoC, %damage to Elites, Int/Vit, LoH..
Grand Vizier/Sun Keeper: One of the only weapons in game with MF post 2.0, it's probably worth picking up on your merc for extra MF.
Source w/ ApoC: (tal's, Chantodo's, Oculus, or Trimumvirate) A good dmg source with ApoC will probably serve you until 70, no questions asked. Sources in RoS are apparantly bugged and can roll EXTREMELY low damage, whereas pre 2.0 can top 460.
Stone of Jordan: SoJ's with -Disintegrate, -Orb and -Meteor AP in addition to 30% more damage to Elites will serve you well into you get a new Stone with +your elemental damage
Hellfire Ring/ Leorics Signet: +% xp is good for those low level alts. While you can make newer, and Stronger, hellfire rings in RoS, don't expect to see them right out of the gate. Make sure you have a few Hellfire rings kicking around for low alts. +MF on them for Followers even better.
Witching Hour: I'm sure this shocks no one.
Mempho of Twilight: Serverely nerfed in 2.0. Probably last you right till 70 and you find Andarial's or Tal's helm.
Have an idea for a legendary worth holding on too? Post it here!
That list was made many many times, and I can just keep saying: Don't. Nothing will last long on level 70, not even Witching Hour (I never replaced it during beta, but did already now on live, at least for my lightning build). Old Frostburn gloves? The 30% damage increase does not at all justify the loss of 500 int and trifecta stats. Mempo? Will be replaced on day one for most people, even if you have a crit Mempo.
Just don't spend any money on any of these. Actually, don't spend any money on any pre-patch items at all. You'll regret it.
I have one for my Templar and myself. Most of my friends (and clan mates) all have their Puzzle Rings. When we tackle extended runs, we all continuously get goblin spawns throughout the entire run. Many of us have obtained legendary items this way.
...Oh, in case anyone's wondering, yes, the prices for these legacy Puzzle Rings have been going up since Patch 2.0.1 went live (I believe the cheapest one was ~9M on the U.S. server before that and last I checked they were close to 40M).
By the way, to put it bluntly, the vast majority of your suggestions are pretty misinforming and those items will easily be outclassed at level 70, if not between level 60-70 when you're first leveling in RoS. Some are arguable, but their uses will be severely limited and still easily outclassed.
ALL (yes, ALL) legacy weapons will be dead in RoS. You can run a legacy wand with APoC, but say goodbye to your eDPS. I only use my Mempo right now for the socket. If I had my way, I'd run a wizard hat, but I haven't found one with the oh-so-flexible socket. I replaced my Witching Hour and my Lacuni. Stone of Jordan is arguable, but you'll regret not having the raw stats on the item come level 70. APoC sources will be good until you hit 70, so they're only great for leveling purposes. I got by in the Beta with just 8 APoC (4 on hat, 4 on source) and plenty of resource management properties on gear to compensate. MF is still hard to prove whether or not it's viable. I'm using it right now for testing purposes.
You guys seem to think I'm advocating spending a lot of money and/or saying I am saying these items are comparable to 70 items. In most cases, they are not. It was just a fun list to make of legendary properties you might go back to 3 months from now and say you regret salvaging that Sun keeper.
In any case, I requested my thread be deleted if it is unclear.
Hey, no reason to delete this (and I don't think any mod would delete this). This is a forum, we're all posting our opinion. Maybe there are people who have a different opinion, they should go ahead. Jaetch and I were not the only people in beta, maybe there are others who will say that it does in fact make sense to keep some legendaries - who knows?
I'm just saying that I spend A LOT of time looking for potential items that carry over, even bought some items and copied them to the beta, I read a lot on the official forums about potential items that are worthwhile - and it turned out that all of them were useless in the end. When you were still able to enchant legacy items there was a point, but now it's just plain useless to keep any item from D3V, in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I still have multiple mules full with old stuff (I'm a keeper, don't like to let go). But I expect to salvage all of this - every single item - in early April at the latest.
Also note what Travis or Wyatt (not sure who, but one of them) said in one of the playtests: If there is a specific legacy item that everyone uses, they will do something about it (change the mechanics that make everyone choose this item or just create more powerful items for that slot).
You make some decent points with the value of the stats, but I agree with the other posts in this thread. If my choice is to miss out on a 75%+ dps increase by equipping a decent lv 70 rare or keeping a chantodo's for the APOC, then I'm going to always go with the new rare. This will enable me to increase my T-level farming for better items, gold, and paragon XP. Also, more gear has resource reduction stats, so that helps with the lower APOC on items.
The designers made stats interesting again, so now it's learning how to balance everything to play a build that interest you.
getting 60-70 is probably going to be a trivial amount of time. In other words, even if you hold on to level 60 items, and they are indeed your best items until farming level 70, it will hardly make any difference in the long run because of how quickly we will get from 60 to 70 and will get all these upgrades by farming level 70 stuff.
I don't think the deal here is to get "BiS" items like you guys were talking about. I'm definitely thinking of saving some gear pieces up to test when RoS hits.Weapons will all become useless come lvl 70, but right now the way weapons are rolling the old ones definitely outclass them (with up to 200% crit dmg) and Lifesteal will still be somewhat useful on levels 60-64.
Things like The Grin Reaper (the WD mask that casts "mirror image") might either not drop for you on the recent patch, so grabbing a legacy one allows you to use its effects and still roll something like 400 Int as soon as you get the Mystic. They've been selling for a ton on AH, though thank God I kept one in my stash.
Some Three Hundreth Spears (with sockets) have been selling for 100 million+ gold. I think that's related to how Ancient Spear now is a Fury Spender and gets an insane dmg boost from it, giving it a lot of potential.
The Genzaniku is probably the earliest way of getting a socketed weapon, and for people intending to level a Crusader to 70 on their own it's probably going to be a very powerful asset. They're a bit expensive too, though.
Can't think of any other ones in particular, but I can certainly see the potential for some fun day-1 builds that use Legacy items like those.

Why would anyone still want a legacy Sun Keeper? Isn't MF useless at 70? And nearly useless at 60?

As far as I know, it's the same at 70; you still get 10% of your MF more legendaries, but you're right; it's simply not worth it.
It's super duper hard to replace a mainhand weapon if you already have something with monstrous damage+crit damage+socket. I've yet to see any of the old great players replace their things with any 2.0.1 gear permanently. Mostly to try a new gimmick build but none of them hold up when they want to steadily farm higher Torment levels as well as they could with their old best weapon/source.

They are talking about when the expansion hits. Higher level cap = higher item lvl = much better stats. The difference between lvl50 and lvl60 gear was pretty huge, ya? Guess how much the difference between lvl60 and lvl70 will be then... I watched this guy on stream (Moldran) the other day, and he said that you would get upgrades withing 2 days, that you would most lkely have replaced ALL your currenct gear. Myself, I've been selling some of my best gear and replaced them with almost just as good sidegrades.
I would have imagined a percentage based item like SoJ could be good, but I don't know. Depends on how good the lvl70 SoJ would be, I guess - and how much stats you would lose out on. I think everything else will be crap.
