ive posted countless threads on the meteor build and videos all you need is 40 max arcane through items for 1.0.4 and 10 for 1.0.5 with energy armor/energy tap-astral presence to get 180 max arcane for 1.0.4 and 150 max arcane for 1.0.5 or you can eliminate energy armor/energy tap in 1.0.5 and get 30 max arcane power through items to reach 150 max arcane power this is so you can land 3 meteors at once or 4 star pacts you will need 175 max arcane power for 5 star pacts. you will also want as much arcane power on crit as possible these 2 go hand and hand and are on the same pieces (helm, source, weapon, some legs/sets) you will also want to use magic weapon/conduit for arcane on hit.
you also want about +25% IAS, +40% CC, +20 APOC, you can also use ET/WW as a starter for the meteor combo spam et/ww and freeze before you begin meteor combo.
For an idea of what gear you need and what skills look at my profile. you can also swap meteor shower for any meteor of your choise but star pact, meteor shower, and liquefy are your best options.
Meteor is theoretically just slightly better than Energy Twister is as a baseline in terms of procs per second, though Liquify is potentially much higher. It has a barrier to entry however:
The 1.25 second onset delay with better than about 1.6 attacks per second means three meteor casts before you start getting any damage or arcane power refunded, so you need to have an arcane power pool big enough to support three meteor casts.
Thats fine except the only rune of meteor that competes with old wicked wind or storm chaser in proc efficiency is not star pact, its liquify, which means you need either a lot of +max arcane power and energy tap, or more efficiently, you need gear reducing the cost of meteor.
On the plus side, using meteor as your proc carrier with Shocking Aspect and Diamond Shards and explosive blast would deal incredible damage.
I might if I can find say, a -5 Meteor Cost/+15 Max Arcane Power Oculus have to give this a try:
I am currently using twister to jump start my meteor build look at my profile for details. spam twister first then once you see the landing of the meteor begin to spam meteor and do not touch twister.
I jumped on to the PTR this morning and didn't change anything except throwing on a stormcrow to get myself up to 17 APOC (and losing the crit on my andy's at the same time so dropping down to only about 40% crit) and I was able to kill elite packs on monster power 10 using this build: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#PhSYXO!YgZ!ZccZZY
This was with like 20k HP and 375 resist all, so basically total crap EHP. But with about 160k DPS, 4.2 lifesteal (including blood magic), 400ish LOH and 40%ish crit. I definitely did die some, mostly to ranged attacks, so obviously more EHP would be necessary, but I found it very encouraging because I was able to (actually fairly quickly) kill MP10 elite packs that had HP around 25-35mil per mob. Even with just 40% crit I was able to keep them stunlocked with star pact + explosive blast. I used blur and force armor just for the occasional hit that might slip out, but with better defensive gear I am pretty sure I could use pinpoint barrier and cold blooded and really do a lot of DPS.
I found all of this really encouraging because I dont think there is going to be any other way for wizards for kill the Ubers on MP10, and MP10 has guaranteed organ drops from the Ubers.
Testing on the PTR, and found using Diamond Skin (Prism) makes this much more manageable arcane power wise. Liquify appears to be the best rune for procs and damage.

This seems like to much work. If thats the case, why not just use WW
Like I posted above, I really didn't have any trouble getting started with Star Pact and Explosive Blast, having only 17 APOC and 93 AP total. So I'm not sure what all this worry is? With the CC changes, the initial frost nova lasts a long time. I was on MP10 with very low EHP, i.e. everything could kill me in 1-2 shots, and I was able to kill elite packs.

How long was it taking you to kill the elites?
I definitely think a CM melee build is best suited for MP10, though a kiting build might work depending on the mechanics of the bosses. It would take forever to kill elites with a kiting build though.

I didn't time it, so this is just a guess, but I would say probably about 30-45 seconds? That would be something like 650k-1mil DPS, which seems about right considering the constant explosive blast + meteor spam? Also, the trash packs were dying easily/quickly, and the XP was really pretty absurd. I was dying too much to trash though, which was slowing it down, but I am attributing that to my incredibly bad EHP since I was set up for force armor archon before. I'll do some more testing on it this evening, and time some kills, and post the results.
I had CM wizzard, playing him was so mortifying i had to reroll. How could i call myself a player or gamer when all i did was spamming few buttons? I could give my keyboard to monkey and he would do same job as anyone.
Good they are nerfing it to the ground. Hope you will find some other ways to play than this highly broken CM build
Just because you don't find it fun doesn't mean others don't enjoy it. My friends quite enjoy the "broken-ness" of the CM-style wizard, it's fun to lock stuff down.
Proc coefficients nerf more than just CM though; it nerfs LoH and APoC as well.
Like someone said before, just remove Crit mass altogether if it's going to be like this. Someone at blizzard is steadfast in the belief that wizards should power kite and die on every reflect/mortar/vortex mob over and over again until we re-roll.
I'm prettty sure the original intention for Critical Mass was "Hey, if you have lots of crit gear, you'll have shorter cooldowns! (Better benefit than Evocation), not "Hey, if you have crit gear, you never have cooldowns. Ever."

This seems like to much work. If thats the case, why not just use WW
Because the casting cost and casting time of the meteor spells have been reduced in 1.0.5 causing more attacks and faster.
