Ok so I wanted to do a spectral blade wizard trying something different. Its the only thing that interest me with wizard honestly. I figured get some crit, crit damage, vit, int and loh. My problem is loh doesnt seem to be coming back when I hit?
I ask this because I have a monk decently geared with around 1000 loh, i can get more by switching when I need to. I rarely die because he gets life back so fast. Switch to my wizard who I can get around 1000loh(when i switch items around) has faster attacks per second and barely gets any life back. Did I miss something? Please help because its making farming hard past act 1 and I dont understand it.
Please understand I am not trying to be a super wizard and I have gear that I found. Just having fun with the game so I don't need people coming in saying gear sucks or putting negative comments. Just looking for some understanding. I rarely use the AH and just use gear I can find for the most part. Just how I play.
LoH works the same for every class. Every skill and rune combination has a spell coefficient. Your life gain is equal to your total LoH times that spell coefficient everytime you do damage. Your spectral blades coefficient is 0.333 so everytime you do damage with the blades you only gain about 1/3rd of your LoH. Most melee builds with spectral blades uses the deep cuts rune because it has a coefficient of 0.889. In case it's not clear, higher coefficients means more life gain per hit, so the higher the better.
Also, the spell coefficients have a role in pretty much anything that has a proc, including CM.
meteor - comet also has a decent coefficient if im not mistaken, and the dot it leaves is 0.5 which ticks pretty fast. Might wanna try that out alogn with spectral blades
I will give it a go... I just could not figure out what was going on. In comparison to my monk which I know gets a lot more back per hit (since you guys explained it) I understand what is going on.
Would a weapon with damage converted as life be better?
Sorry if I sound like a newb (I am). My friends told me this build wouldnt work and I must prove them wrong lol.
Ok so upon testing, I switched to spectral blade with deepcuts, added meteor and fire hydra. I went from 300 life back to 800 which is a lot better. Thanks folks for the replies.

For spectral blades and most melee specs, LoH should be better than damage converted to life unless you have a ton of dps because the health gain is reduced by 80% in inferno for life steal. Eventually life steal can outperform LoH, it just depends on your dps and which rune you use.
EDIT: I think the meteor coefficient is 0.25 for the blast and each tic. It's not bad. Also hydra coefficient is 0 for all hydras.

Yep, deepcuts helped a lot. I was having a ton of issues in act 2 because I couldn't get enough life back to keep myself alive. Meteor with starpact(reduced mana cost) helped a lot also. I just need to get some more loh while not losing anything. Tough when you rarely use the AH!
So you're getting a full 3% of damage dealt...Nice! It seems however that it does not apply to things like hydra or blizzard (or else damage is too low to notice against my normal health per second).

Yes, you get the full life steal amount for all damage you do, but it does not apply to hydra damage and the life gain is reduced by 80% in Inferno, so you only get 0.6% life gained from damage dealt. I do not know if it applies to blizzard but it should be pretty easy to check, just remove all life regen gear, take a small hit from some mob, and toss out a blizzard. If you gain life, it works, if not, it doesn't. That's how I tested the Blood Magic rune on the Magic Weapon skill.
For example, if you use Arcane Orb that hits for 100k on average, you will gain 600 Life per hit. If you wanted to compare to LoH, the coefficient ranges from 0.2 to 0.33, so if you use Tap the Source rune (0.33 coef), you would need 1800 LoH to gain the same amount of health on average. There's a thread on the official forums that has the break even damages between some value of LoH and Life Steal.

Say I have a 3.0% damage dealt as life weapon. How would it interact with skills?
The coefficients do not apply to life steal.

That would help a lot fine tuning my builds
If you read what I said above, I said the life gain from LS was reduced by 80%.
