Hello all. I'm a never new wizard here. Already lvl 60, but the problem I'm having now is Inferno. I've looked through specs and have no clue where to start. The CM build looks very gear dependant and a lot of the other builds I look at are kinda hard to understand. I don't have a lot of gold...something like 200k in gold. Now should I go back through hell and farm gold. If so what spec do you suggest I use? My gear is a mix so nothing special on that note. Is there a stat I should work on build gear for...like LoH and Intel. I do have a gold find set that gets me to about 250% with follower, but when I try to farm Hell Act 3 I get raped by elites. Any words of helpful advise would be great. Thank you
With a gold find set, try farming Act 3 NIGHTMARE. The mobs should be rediculously easy to kill and the gold drops are still pretty decent.
As for specs, it's really just a matter of preference which you want to go for. The CM/WW build uses slightly different gear than standard kiting builds and those are the main ones to choose from. The CM build is slightly more gear dependent (since crit is arguably the most important stat) but can still be set up fairly cheaply to begin and be able to farm Act 1 Inferno with. The kiting build isn't really gear and dependent so might be easier to start with.
Ultimately it will boil down to you having to make a choice between which spec to gear towards. I personally prefer kiting spec but tons of people really like the CM builds. I'd say just pick one spec and get some gear for it. 200k might be enough for a starter set to be able to clear Act 1 (Act 1 is pretty easy, only need like 15k+dps with a kiting spec or like 5-10k dps with a CM/WW spec). You can then try farming the act a few times and if you like it, work on getting better gear for the set. If you don't like it, you can switch to the other spec and give that a try. You shouldn't have to invest millions and millions of gold to get a starter set capable of clearing Act 1 Inferno with, in case you are worried about that.
I farmed roughly 5 million over the last couple of weeks and spent it in the last 4 days for crit/armor gear and it works like a charm. Just did a2 (from balck soulstone) and finished it w/o a real problem. CM build seems so fucking OP even with "lower" stats. So try going for it. I've spent nights with kiting/hydra build but wasted NV buffs due to respeccing for certain affixes. Now Im just zerging in and smash the buttons like a pro

It is better to skip packs then change skills and lose NV stack when farming. Fine for progressing though since the main goal is to just get through. CM definitely is strong in general, though there's still some elites that seem to just crush it.
Critical mass is a great build. When I dinged 60 I farmed ALOT of stuff using the critical mass build. It basically focuses on critical strike chance and CD reduction with diamond skin to protect yourself.
I'm currently using the CM build and its kinda fun. But I'm also running with and monk that can pull mobs in and I freeze them and do my thing...usually ends nicely. We have had trouble with some elites but we go them down after a bit. I'm sitting at over 30% crit chance but I do believe my crit dmg is kinda low, but I do have crit chance on all the gear I can get it on. Will post more as I work on it. I do work full-time and also have a family so I can't play so much as of late.
Step 1: Armor, Vitality and Resist All. Stack them like crazy. It may be counter-intuitive for a ranged class, but the reality of Inferno is that things happen so fast, you don't have leeway for low survivability. Those three stats are the starting point for any build to farm Inferno. Health regeneration helps a lot as well, since it lets you passively mitigate damage you've already taken while you're actively kiting.
Step 2: Pick two main damaging skills - one that deals a lot of damage against a single target and one that deals a respectable amount of damage against a small group of clumped up multiple targets (f.e. I use Magic Missile and Arcane Orb). Note that one of those two HAS (super emphasis here!) to be good for kiting, i.e. it doesn't force you to stand around. Because even if you play in a group, 2 out of 3 encounters with elites you will still have to kite. I prefer the AoE skill be the kiting one, since enemies tend to clump up when they're chasing you.
Step 3: Consider Arcane Power generation and consumption. Depending on which skills you chose in step 2, you may or may not need to use the passives Prodigy, Arcane Pressence and you may or may not need to use runes on your skills that generate Arane Power on hit. The "Arcane Power on critical hit" affix on gear also helps, but only if you complement it with a high crit. chance. In general, your goal is to be able to use your skills reliably, i.e. you don't EVER want a situation where you could use a skill, but don't have enough AP for it (this is especially true for survival skills that use up AP such as Wave of Force and Teleport).
Step 4: Lastly, you need at least 3 active skills in your hotbar that help you survive/mitigate incoming damage. The most popular choice for starters is Energy Armor with the Prismatic rune coupled with Diamond Skin with the Crystal Shell rune and Teleport with the Fracture rune. After you have a full hotbar, you fill out your remaining passives depending on your playstyle. Galvanizing Ward is very good with the aforementioned Energy Armor + Diamond Skin combo, but it isn't mandatory. Evocation is useful if you have a lot of skills with a cooldown, though Critical Mass is better if you land a lot of critical hits.
With the new patch coming I think I'll wait and see how everything turns out before I start spending gold on gear. In the mean time its farm gold until the patch drops. The new patch looks to change alot of how all the classes play and how people build them.
