There are TONS and TONS of usless spells in game, and that fact will become quite apparent when people start playing. Some of us, just have the ability to better visualize such things.
I'm assuming you didn't get a chance to try Twister in the beta because that's not how the skill works at all. You only get the tooltip damage if the twister is on top of a mob for the ENTIRE duration. Mobs are always heading towards you and twisters are always moving away, couple that with the random movement and the skill is horrible. If you are lucky enough that the twister actually makes contact with the mob it passes over it only dealing 1-2 ticks of damage, so you get a small fraction of the actual damage.
In your scenario I'd rather blow through my AP with something like Arcane Orb which will deal SIGNIFICANTLY more damage than Energy Twister before falling back on a signature skill. I'm not trying to be an ass, and I'm not trying to say I'm better/smarter than you. I love the idea of Energy Twister and the skill looks absolutely amazing. I really wanted it to be good and tried using it in multiple scenarios to see if I could find a situation where it would be effective. Every single time it failed. It just sucks man, sorry.
All my text-wall aside - I agree that currently Energy Twiser suxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!!
It's only really good in a very very densly packed room with a greater area of population than something like Arcane Orb can reach .. which doesn't happen very often... YET >
And meteor would be far far better in that situation...so yah, it still sux, and it will always suck.
Bah, kinmaul beat me to it.

I have no doubt that there will be balance changes, but what you're referring to is a complete overhaul. Also for what you're saying to be true, either internally no one is playing Wizard in inferno and if they are none are using Meteor, Twister, Hydra etc. And this has to apply to most skills for all the 3rd / 4th category skills for all classes.
You call it as being better able to visualize these things. And you might be right, on day 1 there might be HUGE complete changes to all these skills. But it seems strange that for all that balances that have happened in Beta, they have not done this already.
Your camp looks at the pure numbers, ignore all variables and completely go off making absolute judgements. My camp looks that the numbers, and agree that they don't look especially great but try to figure out ways in which they could or might work, in this case accounting for the variables.
We just trust blizzard more than we do a bunch of nameless/faceless complainers on a forum.
It isn't so much as being fanboys or eternal optimists as it just doesn't make any sense given what they have already done for skill balances that they would overlook something so important. And if such distrust exists for Blizzard in your mind, I'm frankly surprised that you're even bothering to look at this or any other Blizzard game at all.
I just believe that until I try out these skills on normal and higher modes, it is still feasible the skills are fairly balanced, depending on builds. I'm not a blind Blizzard sellout. But you have to admit that they are currently the ONLY large studio that has yet to release a lemon, actually every single game since Warcraft 3 have been an instant hit, including all expansions for Wow. Like or hate their decisions, they have yet to make a false move and their development process is something that many more game studios would do well to emulate (assuming they had the deep pockets).
Blizzard damage is pretty fixed. Energy twister is random. It is fully possible to do more damage on twister than blizzard. Twister also stacks and is spammable, Blizzard can't stack.
I would say these 2 skills have different niches.
Good point on blizzard.
What about Meteor - Star Pact vs Energy Twister - Wicked Wind.
* Both cost 35AP
* From the videos I've seen, Meteor has a bigger range
* Wicked Wind does 252% over 6 seconds
* Meteor does 260% damage over 3 seconds (not to mention that 200% of it is instant)
So... Energy Twister - Wicked Wind is useless.
Wrong.
Just because meteor runed does more damage then energy twister runed, does not make energy twister useless. There will be times where meteor will not be the best choice of spell to use given the situation and energy twister by far, will prevail better and vise versa. Determining which spells are completely inferior to other spells (therefore useless) is a bold statement to make before release, more damage isn't always better.
In terms of AP to damage ratio, yes meteor does more but that doesn't make it a overall better spell.
