Is it just me or does the wizard seem pretty underpowered? granted its beta, 1/4th of act 1 and you didnt get any good gear, but compared to the other characters the wizard felt..... lacking. 3 arcane orbs and youre out of arcane power and forced to use signature spells which really dont do that much damage, and also dont work well in large packs. Say when youre against a tomb guardian and hes summoning more skeles. If youre initial spells dont clear a straight path to the tomb guardian, you might be in a longer fight than you bargained for. Hell, in a full game a full Ray of Frost wasnt enough to kill a single normal harvester.
i know the resource is suppost to be small and regen fast but it just didnt play well for the beta. maybe itwas my setup, i dont know. just really felt like most of the time i was spamming magic missile

(this build was before D3 launched... looking back on it now - i had no idea what i was doing)
Wizard is quite powerful, properly equipped I was hitting AO for 100+, ray of frost was killing most thing in seconds higher health monsters in a couple more, the arcane energy was a bit of a gripe for me, but the wizard at this stage of the game doesn't have all of the generating abilities it will later. Once I got power hungry as long as I was smart with hitting AO in big groups it wasn't a problem to pick up a couple orbs and be full again.
Tl:dr; Wizard isn't a mindless spammer, plan your attacks for maximum effect and energy consumption, huge damage is possible
Unfortunately, due to a bug where my Wizard was "too high level" for all multiplayer games, I didn't get to try her out. Her killing speed while alone was great -- plenty of high dps aoe's to clear masses of mobs. However, I would imagine that in a full 4 player game it would take at least 2 Arcane Orbs to kill an enemy (even with a high damage weapon). In multiplayer games her effectiveness is drastically reduced due to the fact that monsters have higher health and she can only dish out a couple of high damage spells before running out of resource. Sadly, when playing multiplayer, these couple of high damage spells aren't enough to do the job of clearing a whole room, and as a result she doesn't do as well as some of the other classes.
My main complaint is her extremely limited resource. Being limited to 3-4 Arcane Orbs before you are out of resource is awful. They said that the Wizard's arcane power would regenerate quickly, hence the reason they only need 100 points of it natively. However, after playing a WD with 200+ resource naturally I was very surprised to see that the WD resource regenerated as fast, if not faster than the Wizards.
I think that this is something that needs to be adjusted. When they have some of the lowest dps out of all the classes (when looking at current skill damage %'s), it doesn't make sense that they be so limited by their resource.

Playing a Wizard. Looking for Demon Hunters to play with.
The only thing I have to say about Wizard. is that I was the least impressed with their skill selection in the beta.. Like every skill was just Meh... Except the Orb one.. Other than that it was just sort of lack luster I thought. Not damage wise just aesthetically.
I really liked shock pulse when it was runed. Without the rune, not so good. But setting off chain reactions of explosions in groups of enemies was amazing. Use shock pulse and it's rune during jar of souls and I think you'll see some of that ownage that you are wanting to see. I would argue that the Demon Hunter has the most disappointing skills. They all look pretty much the same. Rapid fire looks cool, but doesn't really feel cool.
However, in beta, there are no cooler skills than barbarian's leap and his grappling hook. Those are just fun. I actually got sad when the hook killed its target instead of dragging them over.

I thought the wizard was slightly weak. Nothing dramatic.... Once I had decent gear one arcane orb was enough!
This is the problem...
A bunch of kids who get to 13, drastically outlevel and outgear the content and comment on the balance.
What a joke....

Oh I'm sorry you were trying to compare the classes at what? Lvl 5 with no gear?...
This is Diablo, gear matters, having access to appropriate skills/runes matter. The point being made was that at LVL 13, compared to all the other classes at LVL 13, the wizard is fine. Thanks for the non contribution though.
The Wizard feels terrible to me right now because of the skill changes the class has undergone. Mostly it is the lack of Electrocute, one of the best Wizard spells in the game, is no longer available by level 13. Also, Sleet Storm rune is now gone. That was great as well. Ray of Frost isn't very good without it.

How about at a level and gear that is relevant to the beta...If you run around one shotting everything then of course every class would seem OP. Thats hardly a good position to look at the games balance. Is that really that complicated for you?
Gear is actually a factor we can even eliminate. Everyone will have similar gear, thus the real factors are the skills themselves and we have all that info already.

White Wave of Force is a great spell, it is in no way going to one shot mobs your level when you have 4 players in game. Especially in higher difficulties.

There is no level in beta that is relevant to balance. No one is going to be complaining about their lvl 10 anything when the game comes out, because it takes an hour to get there, and another hour to be WELL past that point. The only thing we can speculate about is the farthest we can get into the game, when the classes have the most access to the most things, its meaningless to speculate about balance at a level where noone will be for any length of time, and even less meaningful to discuss levels before that.
Anyway, good troll, and good day sir moving on to constructive comments.

Are you always equipping the highest DPS weapon you can find even if it's a sword or club? DPS is calculated by the weapon you wield.

My arcane orbs were hitting for 90-180 ... non crit.
Wizard is in no shape underpowered... you just need to be able to cycle your skills well.
Wave of force = death.
Power hungry = lots more arcane power.
...one shots almost everything with 4 players in the game
shatter- the frost nova rune- followed by obliterate can chain freeze every mob in the room...

Dude... the AoE on WoF is insane. There practically isn't a single equivalent skill in terms of AOE.
