To the person who said it was overpowered, if you have Storm armor with golden rune DIAT (AT and Disintegrate) they will be only 13 ap each, add Astral Presence and normal regen, ) and your power shouldn't go down at all while holding down Disintegrate... So no point in comparing ap use because Disintegrate and AT win.
DK the numbers are beautiful but forever looks prettier. Even if person is using pinpoint barrier they still have longer, than someone firing clumsy meteor hoping to hit you and then hoping to do full damage, millions of Americans learned their lesson in 2008, don't bet on hope.
If Disintegrate charged 100 AP from the beginning for 5 seconds of use, then Meteor would probably be better.....
1) PvP builds couldn't be further from my mind because, frankly, the gear disparity in Diablo is HUGE. The first people to tackle inferno successfully will have such a gear advantage that they could probably walk you over with teleport + spectral blade. Figure out how to clear inferno before you worry about PvP.
2) Channeled abilities are even worse in PvP. I would definitely take Frost Nova AND Wave of force AND Teleport for PvP thanks to the ridiculous amounts of get-to's a PvP Barb/Monk could potentially have.
Meteor can be difficult to master. I'd agree it will be a bit clumsy.
Gotta love the Ray of Frost though, right?
Pretty powerful.
DKR
EDIT : Again, when used in conjunction with a skill such Frost Nova/Slow Time, (no AP cost) you'll be more confident and more accurate with your castings of Meteor. If they're frozen/stunned/slowed then Meteor would work and do MASSIVE amounts of damage.
"Meteor cost too high, good for one hit wonder if you can hit and if it does the max damage but Arcane torrent with Disintegrate will do more damage in the same amount of time, throw in the supposed cast time of 3 seconds for meteor and ease of missing and lower chance of critical compared to disintegrate. Trash."
Arcane Torrent's Disruption rune effect only increases damage 120% with skills that deal Arcane damage. It would definitely go great with Disintegrate, as you noted. The effect last 6 seconds. (120% Increase dmg) so here's some math that I"m thinking of. After you cast AT on a target, you probably only have about 5 seconds left of the 120% increase.
---------- Disintegrate-(Crimson Rune) -- 188 - 234 Arcane damage per second. The average is 211/sec. Obviously, it increases over time, but best case scenario and for the sake of discussion, we'll take the averages/sec.
211 damage X 120% increased dmg = 464 damage
464 damage X 5 seconds = 2321 Arcane Damage total
Arcane Torrent cost - 20 AP
Disintegrate cost for 5/sec - 100 AP TOTAL - 120 AP cost to take advantage of Disintegrate's powerful damage potential
---------- Meteor - Indigo - (Meteor Shower)- Unleash a volley of 14 smaller meteors that strike for 139 - 189 Fire damage.
Again, take the average of each meteor - 161 damage.
161 damage X 14 meteors = 2296 damage total
Meteor cost - 60 AP TOTAL - 60 AP to do the same damage, without any % damage increases, for CHEAPER. ----------
Frost Nova - Crimson Rune - Enemies take 110% more damage while frozen or chilled by Frost Nova. An explosion of ice freezes nearby enemies for 4 seconds and causes 28 - 50 Cold damage.
THEN USE
Ray of Frost - Crimson Rune - Damage increases slowly over 1.5 seconds to inflict a maximum of 369 - 434 Cold damage per second.
Again, taking the average per/sec, 401.5/sec
401.5 X 110% increase damage = 843.15 damage
843.15 X 4 seconds = 3372.6 damage total.
Frost Nova cost - 0 AP
RoF cost for 4 seconds - 116 TOTAL - 116 AP to do more damage at same cost (just about) as ArcTorr/Disint combo.
--------
Or swap out RoF with Slow Time (I wouldn't, I appreciate the stun effect from RoF) and take advantage of the 140% increase in damage !!! When Frost Nova/Slow Time 'capture's' enemies, then Ray of Frost starts looking better than Disintegrate. And Meteor stands on its own.
Just my thoughts,
DKR
Nice find on the frost combo!

There would probably be ways to stop it, but you'd have to be a CC wizard with only CC spells, Impactful wave, to stun, frost nova, slow time with miasma, and teleport with calamity and you could shut someone down. Oh and mirror image with 6 images, because they still have to filter through the BS to get to you (in PvP it would probably be good) but diamond skin... would be better and longer.

Ya DK freezing them and then hitting them with meteor would be good. Also Impactful wave then Meteor so they are standing perfectly still for it.... could be better and annoying as hell !
Frost nova with Evocation so person casts it over and over will probably be something seen a lot in Arena that and impactful wave, Frost would be good if you have melee people in your group so they know exactly where the person is, then walk up and beat them while frozen, using some kind of snare.
Hey if you think you have better math on it or a different take on it I want to see it. I was either thinking of Arena, or really hard monsters... Especially if there is some variable I'm not taking into account or don't know of. Especially if it involves meteor because I think the only way someone is going to do better damage than disintegrate and AT is in a slow time bubble with Stretch time, in Arena I think someone will run the hell away but a monster won't....
There is so much about this thread I disagree with I don't even know where to start.
And I'm not even going to bother since it's all your opinion.
Do you feel better after responding to this thread about how you won't respond to this thread?
I dunno, do you feel better after replying to my thread about not replying to this thread?
Edit: After reading more than the first post you should REALLY edit in to the first post and clarify that you aren't just blanket blacklisting all these skills, but that it's in a very narrow window of view. (Arenas)
Edit 2: As has been stated multiple times on this board and in other places, Diablo III has no immunities.

Frost Nova-Crimson-It increases 110% damage taken, AND freezes them still...so they're still 'standing perfectly still' for the meteor. Enemies frozen (for 4 seconds) receive that additional damage increase.
WoF - Alabaster - Has 1 second longer stun & incurs direct damage to them from the spell itself. (More than Frost Nova), so it might just be a good substitute.
I should note, however, the problem with Meteor Shower is that it's probably more fitting for a boss fight. Trying to hit enemies running around would be silly and impossible. Good thread!
I think frost nova can be good, and that crimson does have almost as much increase as Arcane torrent but it lasts only 4 seconds compared to 6. I'm sure someone will use it... I like Wave of Force because it seems more reliable with stun. Frost Nova is good it just doesn't bring as long or much as AT. One Wave of Force impactful wave and you could go through the whole cycle of Arcane Torrent, then disintegrate (2 pulses at least).
Frost nova could be awesome though because you don't have to target it... if your in Arena watching people run around, people would probably prefer this to AT.
Hahahah I knew someone was going to ask that eventually ! I left it for mass damage, my actual build won't have it but all our damage calculations include it, so I left it in, for now......
Liverymen and my calculations both have it. and the calculations I did in previous post on other page have it too but that was because name of post was Glass Cannon so obviously for the person's sake I included it.
I don't think your build will fly. no AP regen once Disintegrate and Arcane Torrent uses up all your AP.
you also choose Galvanizing Ward over Glass Cannon? Galvanizing Ward seems more like a passive I'd throw in the trash unless I'm playing HC. I'll take increased damage over safety any day on softcore.

The sad thing is that Galvanizing Ward isn't even worth it for Hardcore. And you're right, it's the one ability I know for sure I will never, ever use. (Unless the HP/sec scales with gear) For an idea of life totals, Witch Doctors have a spell with no cost on a 15 second CD that heals for 21,290 if they hit 5 targets with it. Galvanizing Ward can heal that much damage in 665 seconds! Woohoo!! The extra 120 seconds is stupid, armor spells only cost 25 AP and during the 120 seconds they last you'll have a moment of downtime you can afford to refresh it.

I have a feeling that Galvanizing Ward will scale with one of the stats. It is tied to a script much the same way as the damage values on skills, and very likely has something tied into it.
Could be tied to max life, so that 35 per second may be a 1% of a lvl 60 wizard's base, naked hp. So, if you dump tons into vitality, you could possibly get that up to maybe 100 per second or more.
Or tied directly to the stats with the same 1% scaling as attack. Imagine 35 per second but increased by 800%. Starting to look a little more effective.
OMG! I read the first post and stopped. I've built quite a few (I believe very viable) builds using Temporal Flux as a main consideration and you think it is completely useless?
Oh and having Evocation for only 1 spell that has a cooldown, plus having 3 different ray spells in one build? (I consider Arcane Torrent a Ray in theory). WOW. You have to stand in place a lot to cast don't you. Hope you don't run into several enhanced speed + cold based elites. Cos you don't even have a teleport to get out of trouble, and NO AP REGEN!!!
Short sighted build that only relies on brute force power with no imagination IMO and no AP regen abilities.
