I have some serious doubt for some slot in high GR even with current tal
Yes. The build I'm using right now for the 57 is not optimal for a group setting, Tal's can do better. I think current tal is top dps spec in the game. But it will probably change.
That's beast man keep it up! Right now @Blayreau you're giving me a reason to keep playing D3!
Did you experience a lot of lag, in my 4-man 59 clear there was crippling lag.
I cannot wait for this patch, I'm only just started Firebirding 2 weeks ago and am already unbelievably bored by it.
If I had to put my finger on the one issue D3 has these days, it's that specs are forced into very specific builds in order to progress, and Wizard is feeling really pointless in any other build atm.
If I can get some alternative builds and options to at least get up to GR35 or so without Firebird-kiting, I'll be a very happy camper.
Just curious now when you're referring to grifts is it always in group? I'm finding that the defense you get through unity+arlyse setup is almost needed in high GRs like this. The damage doesn't go out fast enough to keep (me) up it seems. My gear is still awful but I've only done up to 43 (all first try) but I don't see how I could survive without specc'ing/gemming tanky.
I must be completely horrible at this game then lol. Every time I tried without the unity/arlyse setup I'd flop immediately. With all of the mobs charging from offscreen, T-storm, etc I found it way too difficult to complete any sort of grift. (Also not using tele maybe that is why)
I'm currently ranked 12th for Wizards (Grift 47) but using the 'tanky' setup where damage was the larger issue. Just can't seem to find a good balance, or play better to run full glass cannon.
Grats on the run. Nice to see wizards being viable in group grifts. Wondering what you're using for gems and what changes to the build would be made for running solo.
The build simply doesn't work in solo, you can't get infinite health globes, and you can't stand still to cast meteors. You would replace meteors for hydra and run a build much like the one you see Blayreau running.
I'll answer this question again after watching Jaetch's video. No, I didn't experience the permanent and horrible frame drop he suffered from the WHOLE rift. The 57 run was in fact pretty smooth for the PTR. I used Mammoth Hydra, and Lightning DH are known for lagging servers as well. But the density of our run was nowhere near as good as you guys. And seems like, as you guys talked about, Meteor + Density might be the culprit for this frame drop. Or maybe the globe spawning? Our WD wasn't a 0-dog.
Well we did do it ~5 days ago, with the PTR lag and queue times in full swing. We should try it again or something.
So guys, how the meteor dmg is calculated? The reason im asking this is the follwowing:
in firebird the 2hander was better because of DoT dmg. Now as Blizz introduce another set piece ppl want to use 2 hander. Is it really that much of a benefit instead of Witching hour? Just an exmple. So will the dmg range of the 2 hander be the driver of the meteor dmg?
As the 7 piece will be introduced whole new items cna be added which is amazing...
Witching hour, which is better then TR for sure, amu, maybe cindercoat.
whats your view on this? What will you change? still wep? like ancient maximus?
In the vid I actually did use energy tap, but I posted the build used with pinpoint because I later discovered that it simulates better on paper.
As to why I didn't use magic weapon....I wasn't thinking, and the build had still been in the process of evolving and changing as we climbed up grifts with our keys.
Ideally I think you'd want mammoth hydra there, but we couldn't do it without lagging to much.
I'm trying out Reversal. Works fine up to 45 and so, and haven't tried any higher Grifts. Maybe I should have played more LeBlanc when I had the chance
1 Defensive Skill, 1 buff. Something that gets me AP-AP regen. Arcanot seems to be the best option, as it already puts me over the cap. Grand Vizier with 10% RCR, Gloves, shoulders, paragon points makes into 65% RCR for Meteor (Granted Vizier is perfect). That means 14 AP Cost on the stuff. 15-16 is easily doable if you get low rolls on the Vizier.
Thing is, Jailer and Thunderstorm, the ranged skills that cause problems on my Woh build, (Halo of Arlyse-Woh) are hard to notice with Tal defensive bonuses. Unity-Halo might be great for pushing into 55. You can ignore Winged Assasins and Anarchs, along with Corrupted angels with the ring, and all elite affixes save poison enchanted with Tal Rasha.
Prismatic Armor is a waste save that Physical resistance buff. Esoteric easily keeps my Firebird alive but is also pretty wasted on Tal builds .Zei + Trapped is easy to combine with Blizzard-Snowbound. Molten gem + Dominance would be great on Tal builds, though lack of hellfire amulet is troubling me. UA and Elemental Exposure, along with Blur leaves 1 passive to take, and there are very nice canditates for that slot. Assume that one is Astral Presence for Meteor spamming. That's 17 AP per second, should be enough but I can't test it properly without Tal Gloves just yet.
I'll try Vizier -RCR Stacking meteor spam with that build. Depending on what I have the most problem against, Ice Armor - Crystallize, Teleport - Reversal are up for debate on the defensive skill slot. (One shotting disappears with Tal's Lightning and Arcane resists around, and Halo is one hell of a defensive ring that allows you to take blows from bloodmaw and laugh at his face. Still, mobility goes out the door with it, since our buffs doesn't proc Tal's buff. (Yet?))
All in all, I'm looking forward for the next week.
Blayreaue, can you please tell me wheter TR set wiz is able to speedclear GR35-36? can you make a video? (please)
That will definitely be an interesting topic to theorycraft out.
TBH I could see it being a RoRG+Broken Bromise wand of woh build.
Hey probably i missed something here: what is with broken promise ring?
the ring is always up but rotates every 5 second. fire, cold, arcane and lightning. the buff is shown in your bar. since we will be hitting with all of those elemental types it either buffs tal rasha meteors of that elemental or hurricane/hydra/blizzard/meteor. all of those skills don't hit equally hard but still it is a significant buff in my opinion
No, your opinion is wrong and the ring sucks with tals.
Could you elaborate on why he is wrong? It is in fact on average a 40-50% dmg boost even in tal rasha. An elemental bonus is good because we don't want elemental dmg on gear as we use all elements (having your highest element (fire) will probably still be beneficial though, so this sentence may not be true). The blizzcon ring is not as awesome as broken promises or f/r, but with some proper skill management I think it could be pretty good, especially because the bonus is a secondary property.
It isn't elemental bonus, it is a separate multiplicative buff unique to one element at a time, and the game isn't solely comprised of rift guardian tank and spank fights so the not having the ability to deal damage when you want to puts the ring into the 'never use' category soundly.
Any even slightly optimized tal build is also only going to deal large amounts of damage with a single element, not two.
I dont think that Broken promise is a good choice... lets say ur CHC is 50%, so to active this means you need to have 5 non crit in a row, that has an extremly low chance.
0,5 * 0,5 * 0,5 * 0,5 * 0,5
do i think it wrong?

@Blayreau have you tried running toxin gem and pain enhancer because they also scale with tals and bastion of will set

A video of our group 59 clear was posted form the crusader's PoV:

My comments on how I was running my wizard can also be found in that thread.

It's group, so zei's, trapped, and BotP.

Energy Twister - Wicked Wind Familiar - Arcanot
Meteor - Thundercrash Blizzard - Snowbound Hydra - Mammoth

How long does a stack of tal buff last?
How long does it take for the ring to rotate?
How many of the skills on your bars with tals are actually strong-damage spenders?
