This was the very first legendary helmet I got as a WD at level 60, but it was really crappy and the mimics did so little damage and had such crappy AI that I melted it.
I found one the other day and decided to test it out. I was pleasnetly surprised.
The mimics now do roughly 80% of your damage, they spawn more often, their AI has been vastly improved, and they can do some cool things like cast Piranhas and MULTIPLE spider queens!
hmm i have one of those in my bank and never thought twice if trying it out, i honestly mis-read it and thought it said it cast out mimics on attack as in like you are attacking and it cast mimic mobs like any other summon item, which has been lackluster (ie skeletons from that set ring, and the axe that summons something on attack)
But after watching the video, i was like omg...i have to try this when the servers come back up today, that is pretty sick, i'll def have to play around with mine today, mine rolled pretty nice i just didnt know what to do with it, i didnt know the history behind it either, very nice.
i got mine from gambling too, while still trying for a quel helm for dot build, no luck yet, but got 2 jerams, 1 of which i kept, had 99% pet damage, its incredible
Also got the helm that makes your fetishes fire off poison dart when you do, thought about playing around with that one, but wouldnt be a viable build, just something for fun i guess, it rolled ok, not really great, so i'd lose some dps
What about set bonuses ? Since mimics can use Soul Harvest, does it affected by Jade Harvest set ? That would be insane. I have the helm and the set but EU servers are down so i can't try it now.
Tried this a bit. It is really amazing with addling toads and rhen'ho flayer. Stuff is just perma confused more or less and the damage is pretty damn good too. Currently running a poison build and its just so easy to clear t5 and t6 with all the CC you get from the mimics spamming toads and piranhado.
Still seems a bit lackluster compared to Quet or Jeram.
You have no idea what you are talking about
A video showing someone taking forever to kill anything on T4. Clearly. I'll stick to Jeram/Quet and clearing T6 3-4 times that speed.
You mean the video where I had only single spells equipped to show you how they worked?
I understand how they work. I wasn't saying your video was shit or anything. I simply stated that for a accurate overview of the spec / gear choice, we need more data. By all means, show us you clearing a T5/6 Rifts with the gear and spec.
So many people with sticks up their arse these days.
@zaktak - Contribute something to the discussion instead of insults and childish remarks? Show us why this build is "lol op".
But so far everyone (?) that tried it says it is awesome, and you who didnt try it say it isnt. So who is it that isnt contributing? "I tried it and it works well" seems far more like a contribution than "I didnt try it but I am sure it sucks based on a video that shows how often the mimics procs and which spells they cast and how they cast them".
I never said it sucked, I said it seemed lacklustre, there's a difference. If someone wants to provide a video / evidence..ANYTHING to show how "lol op" or "awesome" this is, I'll eat my MoJ and Quet.
From video shown, yes, showing proc rates and what spells they cast..I can't see how this can clear as efficiently as Jade Harvester or SMK Phys Doc but then again, I could be wrong.
Well you said you can clear it 4 times as fast, and killing stuff on t4 takes forever. I'd say that means it sucks, because anything that needs "forever" to kill stuff on t4 sucks.
As I said in previous post, you can keep up a ton of CC with this mask if you use addling toads with flayer and piranhado, which makes it very safe. Personally I dont really notice any difference in damage etc between using this and my MoJ with 100% pet damage, but I take a lot less damage and I have to move a lot less with Grin Reaper, so I swapped to it.

The mask was pretty big suprise when I tried it, glad I saved one legendary from the "useless" bank tab.:)
By only swapping the mask, using piranhado, grasp, queen and Pile On! I pretty much had the same clearing speed on t6 as I have with my fetish build.
Wish I had more +poison gear to test out how it works with bears and such tho.
I tested mimics with a Tall Man's Finger fire dog-only pet build in solo T5. I didn't expect to replace my Mask of Jeram, but it was interesting to play around with it.
My gear (if not updated): TF, Uk Serpent, Tasker (50%), 2 pc Blackthorne's, Cindercoat, SoJ, TMF, and a Grin Reaper (hp socket)
My Stats: 8800 Int, 52 crit, 375 crit dmg, 1.88 atks per second, almost 500k hp ... 30% dog dmg, 74% fire dmg, 40% elite dmg
My most used skills: Burning Dogs / Spirit Walk (mana), Soul Harvest (languish), Horrify (armor) / Vampire Bats, Nado
Passives: Fierce Loyalty, Midnight Feast, Zombie Handler - Frequently I switched between Grave Injustice and Pierce the Veil to see damage differences. I typically prefer GI for control although I honestly don't NEED it with this many options. Pierce the Veil upped the damage of everything - me, mimics, and pet.
Replacing the MoJ cut my dog damage almost in half which brought it down to 35-50 per crit (add about 10 mill to that with Pierce the Veil). I normally use a Flayer for Addling Toads, but for the purposes of this test I used a Thunderfury to spread it's debuff from myself and the mimics with constant Nado / SoulHarvest (languish for reduced move speed / atk speed). This was also more effective than using a Burning Axe of Sankis as far as damage output from what I could tell.
The mask summons 2 mimics at once for a duration of around 5 seconds. I couldn't tell what the internal cooldown on mimic spawning was and maybe Grave Injustice influenced that. It seemed like they were up for every other pack although I wasn't clearing quickly. You must be the one attacking to spawn them (although you can spam skills in town and they will appear) as I found out that running around while the dog did all the work wasn't working. They used every skill they had access to and seemed to prefer offensive abilities to defensive. Rarely they used spirit walk, and didn't use any abilities while they were running around with it. Sometimes they seem to choose abilities at random, but when they spawn while you are attacking, they tend to stick with ones you are currently using such as Toads or Bats or Bears. If you know which abilities WON'T be used (such as pet summons and long cooldowns) then you could limit them to a smaller set to direct them.
It's too unreliable for constant Nado spam like I was hoping for, although it was nice when several were up. If you're looking to use them for control then your mileage may vary. Having lower dmg skills on your bar is not advised - since you want them to add as much dps as possible. For the purposes of this build, Vampire Bats and Burning Zombie Chargers were significantly more effective than Firebombs or Flaming Darts. Seeing them running around while channeling Vampire Bats was an interesting mix with my dog's fire aura, and the damage ramped up when we all focused down a single group. I think narrowing down their possible skills is the best way to get them to focus on higher damage.
They weren't up all the time, but they were around often enough to make using them fun and interesting. I still solo'd a few T5 rifts just as easily although a little slower than usual, but nothing bad. I'm not sure how effective they would be in higher level grouping situation in T5 & T6. I would like to see more people give them a try and post their results.
