I've been strugling on choosing what to play first when d3 launches. I'm torn between WD, Barb, and Wizard. I follow almost all the updates put out by the game and even though wizard seems to be the better pvp choice atm, I cant get over how strong the WD's aoe grinding spells are. Haunt/LS/BigVoodoo are so op. I Can't wait for this game. I will play the WD first...
Before I received the beta my choice was DH. After i've been playing the barb for a while and seeing the video's of armor sets, he has took over as the number one spot.
i will play witchdoctor first...or barbarian...or monk...or wizard..oh wait, ill play demonhunter.
ARGH, they are all so compelling in different ways.
Damn this game, I cant make up my mind. Pre-beta I was 100% sure on the wd. Now I think monk is in a slight lead

I can see what you see not. Vision milky, then eyes rot.
When you turn, they will be gone. Whispering their hidden song.
Then you see what cannot be. Shadows move where light should be.
Out of darkness, out of mind. Cast down into the Halls of the Blind
THe only thing keeping me from committing to the Witch Doctor (over the Wizard) is the Mana.
Of course I will play both, but comparing pros/cons in trying to make a choice for release week / first char I keep coming back to the two resource systems:
Arcane Power: Has a faxed cap (unless you increase it with gear) and it regens really quickly. You're never more than 6ish seconds away from full Arcane Power again. Some of your best defensive abilities (Diamond Skin, Slow Time, Mirror Images, frost nova) are free of Arcane Power cost. They meerly have a cooldown. All of these spells can buy you time untill your AP regens.
Mana: The Cap increases as you level and things cost more and more mana. It regens slower. Will take longer to Run out of Mana than AP, but also longer to get it back. The defensive spells of the WD cost Mana as well as having a CD. Spirt Walk, Horrify, Mass Confusion, Wall of Zombies, Hex - all cost mana and have CDs.
The result of objectively looking at the two recources, is that the Wizard's seems much more powerfull. To me, the choices of "gearing for AP Regen or +Max AP or + AP on Crit" are much more of a "flavor" choice for Wizards, where as Mana regen seems like it will be a must for WD.
All of this is not to say I'm not a huge fan of the WD and super exccited to play it. It may still sway me (if I see good arguments!) to start with it, but for now I'm decidely leaning towards Wizard. About 70/30%
If you want a real comparison, give that wizard a weapon first. Furthermore, you don't know whether WD will be that imba on lvl 60 anymore, even when using Soul Harvest. Maybe on lvl 60 he MUST use it to be competitive with others.
I'm just showing the INT difference at same lvl. DPS is not in discussion.
At lvl60, soul havest will give 650INT boost and may be you will say if the main attribute will around 1000 on gears at lvl60, so that INT boost is reduced greatly indirectly.
But you will be wrong if you think so, WD can wear some Dex/Vit/Str gears to make difference builds with high dodge chance/Super High HP/Great dmg reduction.
All in all, this is a definately OP spell and BLZ did nothing about it.
What are you guys playing?
Edit: You can check out my solo play (harvester) build in the WD forums if you like for some ideas or a guide.

Witch Doctor will be 2nd though.
At lvl13 a WD with soul harvest has 250% int than a wiz at same lvl.
That will give you 250% dmg boost on spells.
Here is a screen shoot from current P16 patch.
Damn poor Wiz....lol
Invincible WD :-)
