you do realize were talking WIDTH and not LENGTH right? two VERY different things. the WIDTH makes sense for its if able to be walked through, LENGTH would make me believe the opposite is true.
Of course, even if this was the case, they could EASILY change this one rune and zombie wall mechanics to ensure better survivability for the WD.
And even IF they can walk through it, its still a great slowing ability, aka Defensive ability without a CD.
OP has a good point. Now imagine Hardcore Inferno WD. Pets will be 100% necesery. Infact every class will be based on a safe build. And WD has an obvious safe playstyle which is to hide behind the summoned meatshields. Im pretty positive that very few players will dare to test out unconventional safe builds in harcore.
That is the whole point of Survival Mode, to survive.
Every class will likely take its BEST defensive abilities for survival mode.

.......i don't even....... Nothing can walk through the zombie wall, it is a redesign of the classic necro ability, bone wall. OBVIOUSLY the indigo rune makes the wall longer ie 1x5 becomes 1x10 runed.
Thank you.
D3maniac, you say your points are based on common sense and observation of skill mechanics in beta, but your blatant disregard for all logic concerning Zombie Wall makes me have to take your notion of "common sense" with a very large grain of salt.
no one knows that its a 'redesign' of anything, MORE speculation. speculation based on skills in D2? ya thats logical to assume this ability works EXACTLY the same, not. my speculation is based on the rune effects, yours is based on NOTHING, neither of yours. its a joke to think your "argument" somehow trumps mine with zero reasons behind it, besides "wall" in the name, lmao. and the indigo rune makes the WIDTH twice as large not the length, how do i know this? because the effing ability says WIDTH FFS. i hate arguing with people who use zero logic and dont use reasons behind what they think. im using specific examples, YOUR using PURE speculation.
Listen, all I have to say is every post like this claiming they have found the perfect build... without actually playing the build is ridiculous.
Example: I'm not in the beta, but I did get to play D3 at blizzcon, and I played the pvp side of it to, which allowed me to use skills not available in beta PVE. Right away I noticed something that I knew people who haven't tried it yet don't realize : There are MANY tiny factors that suddenly make a skill not anywhere near what you thought it was. For instance Arcane torrent, does 200% weapon damage per second, compared to arcane missile which does 110% damage every hit you get with it. The only downside would be standing while casting, but I was like pfft I'll just cast for 2 seconds, run and do it again. Not so; The tiny details I'm talking about are things like arcane torrent, they don't tell you that it takes about 1.5 - 2 seconds just to start the spell, and then reach it's target.
TLDR; People who haven't played the game (and this should include almost everyone until release) Shouldn't claim they have the perfect build / they suddenly know how to solo inferno the fastest, ect. It's just ignorant.

no one claimed to have the "perfect build" i used specific examples and reasons as to why one would need pets to solo inferno, that is all. its my opinion until release, but i wanted input to see if people could come up with builds that could survive as well without pets.

You really need to realize that you are being a humongous hypocrite, you are fighting speculation with speculation and your 'common sense' seems to only have things in common with your own senses. How come I can't draw comparisons from D2 to assume how abilities will work? A majority of the spells are remakes of old spells and they are working fairly similar this time around. They only managed to make bone wall cooler because now it attacks what it touches.
On the topic of length vs. width: These two words are entirely interchangeable and are totally relative to your orientation to the object you are describing. Length's application to zombie wall is a bit more narrow, specifying that it will simply be doubling the longest side of the wall. Width can be applied to either the shorter or longer side.

AKA thickness. dictionary.com . now your just trolling me. this would only be true if the object angle is relative, it is not in the case of the zombie wall. the object is a WALL always standing in the same way, just facing different directions. it doesnt suddenly flip on its side, which WOULD change what the width/length would be, its always strait up therefor the width can only mean 1 thing, period. go back to geometry class
- 2 DOTs: one runed for longer duration and one to return HP
- 1 direct DMG with a DOT (on the ground) for additional dmg
- 2 CCs: Horrify with longer duration and Mass Confusion with reduced CD (Mass Confusion also deals dmg because the enemies attack each other)
- 1 Escape Tool: Runed for longer duration
The idea is to DOT your enemies and then start to CC them or go into Spirit Walk to avoid dmg. The 2 CCs/Spirit Walk should be enough to completly avoid any dmg (Horrify(20sec CD)->9sec Duration (11sec CD left)->Mass Confusion(28sec CD)->8sec duration (20sec CD on Confusion, 3sec on Horrify)-> recast your DOTs again-> Horrify again. it looks decent. but what if your dealing with a small room with waves coming at you? if both your CC spells and spirit walk are on CD, what then? this is the problem im seeing with no pets, once your CC's are on CD unless your killing super fast your taking way too much dmg as a WD. yes life regen helps alot but enough to outlast damage from inferno monsters?

Mathematical Definition: "The width of a box is the horizontal distance from side to side(usually defined to be greater than the depth, the horizontal distance from front to back)"
The zombie wall will always be cast perpendicular to the WD.
Therefore the longest side of the zombie wall is the horizontal side, thus the side that gets doubled.
So now we are back to square 1 with the "WALL".

wrong again. the horizontal side changes when he casts it facing a different way, if hes facing up the horizontal angle is the longest side, if he casts it left or right then the horizontal side is the width. the width is commonly known as the thickness or shortest distance of an object. that one example isnt relative to this wall, a BOX is different then a RECTANGLE > so that example is void to this. back to geometry again kids.

width (wɪdθ)

1. the linear extent or measurement of something from side to side, usually being the shortest dimension or (for something fixed) the shortest horizontal dimension

Ok. Small room has some advantages e.g. the enemies will very likely stay inside your acid pools and its easier to hit them all with Horrify/Confusion and some disadvantages e.g. the enemies are much closer to you and need less time to get in your face.
About the waves, lets assume you get into the room and meet wave 1 -> DOT -> Horrify now two things can happen during the 9sec of Horrify, your DOTs do enough dmg to kill the first wave (I doubt that) or you have to use Mass Confusion to deal with them. Mass Confusion runs for an other 8sec. During this 8sec again 2 things could happen, the first wave dies to your dots or they dont die and the 2nd wave shows up. If the 2nd wave shows up you have the confused enemies as a meatshield (I assume the confused enemies will also be attacked by the 2nd wave? not sure how mass confusion works). So you either have 3sec CD left on Horrify without a 2nd Wave there or you have 2 waves at your arse with 11-3sec CD on Horrify. Depeding on the situation you would DOT the new enemies and then use spirit walk to get away from them (and stay safe). This should allow your Horrify to come of CD. If that is not enough time... well I guess you have to run for a while
Also I guess all 3 CCs being on the is very unlikely... but it could happen. Then again if you are in Inferno you should probably play safe... so runing to the next group without CCs is something you should avoid (if you know you need the CCs to survive the group).
You will be oom constantly with that build, no mana pots in d3.
And even IF they can walk through it, its still a great slowing ability, aka Defensive ability without a CD.
