I haven't been seeing any builds involving the sacrifice ability of the zombie dogs. I agree that they need to be together but to see no build using it is surprising. So i'm here to submit my build for zombie dog sacrifice build.
Build Notes:
1.I went with horrify and mass confusion for the crowd control if things get hairy. I even runed them for longer duration and shorter cd so I don't feel that I need to "save" them for a bad time.
2.A lot of people were confused why I took Zombie Handler over Pierce the veil. The zombie handler gives me 31% more dmg without the mana increase. So I have a total of 124% increased dmg for 60 seconds. So with that dmg increase I could focus my dmg spells to steal life and do less dmg.
Edit: changed build from the suggestions from warIsADangerousPlace
IMO, I don't think horrify and mass confusion would work well in your build.
For starters having both is a bit overkill for CC. Horrify and mass confusion are very similar to each other and overlap in many ways. Having said that I feel like you won't really need to use both every time they are up...and skills which aren't being used are wasting a skill slot.
Second, sacrifice itself has a measly 12 yard range. Horrified mobs will be all over the place and chances are a lot of them will be out of range of the spell's effect. You'll end up hitting one or two mobs if you are lucky. Ditto for confusion.
I would suggest taking grasp of the dead instead of horrify or confusion. It is different enough from both and therefore won't step on either spell's toes in terms of functionality. As for the rune I would take 'Death is Life' (spawns health globes) which complements your overall build.
I feel like you will get enough health regen from the health globes and would suggest swapping haunt's rune to 'Resentful Spirit' (reduced duration to 3 seconds). Your sac build will be tearing through mobs quickly and vanilla haunt won't stay up on mobs very long.
Finally (and this is simply a personal preference), I would replace 'Rush of Essence' with 'Gruesome Feast' just because it kills three birds with one stone: It complements two skills which generate health globes, it adds a much better mana regen component to your build AND it gives you a boost to attack.

Ya but the focus of this build wasn't the sacrifice but mainly the buff provided by it. You won't be running around able to sacrifice pets like you are suggesting. The majority of your time you will have no pets out because they will be on cd from the last time you sacrificed them. It's more about making what you can with that buff and being more self sufficient. Besides I could just wait to use the CC until after my pets are dead.
I use "Haunt/SpiritBarrage/Spiritwalk"(other Spirit type spells dont have a mana cost) along with the "Rush of Essence" passive to sustain my manapool while using "Pierce the Veil".
I chose "Burning Dogs" since I am using "Zombie Handler" giving me a 4th Dog and more overall life across them all. This gives me a nice defensive wall that also produces sustained AoE.
As for "Sacrifice" I chose chose "Next of Kin", this gives me a possibility to be able to spam the ability causing alot more dmg. Imagine this, 4 dogs each having 40%+ chance of being revived... if the rolls are lucky you can sit there and blow up dogs 4-5 times... Note that the only time I would use "Sacrifice" is when my "Zombie Dogs" are off CD. This gives me a potentially HUGE burst of dmg every 60 seconds without losing my defensive wall.
The last spell I chose was "Soul Harvest", coupled with "Spiritwalk" this should be all the defenve "OH SHIT" buttons you need to either heal up or run for your life.

Also does that build even work? Seems like too many CD's. http://www.diablofans.com/topic/28704-zombie-dog-explosion-combo/
