Plagues are a horrible way to represent shadow. Plagues should be given off by your pet, likewise for back in the Medevil times, to spread the dark plague into the castle, they would shoot heads out of catapults that had the plague. So IMO, the plague should be a spell where it's like a monster that gives off the plague. You know? A more shadow spell would be like curses. I.E.
Curse does X amount of damage over X amount of time, the curse gets stronger every X seconds.
Or perhaps even the simple spells, like shadow bolt..
Sends a bolt of shadow doing X amount of damage.
Now, why I am saying this is I'm not 100% sure, but I think the witch doctor will be represented dark and voodoo by plagues, and not really spells.
When I think of voodoo, I think of curses.
Now for fire, I think I saw only 1 fire spell, and I believe they removed pets being able to be set on fire. Skull of Flame. THEY NEED MOAR FIYA SPELLS
I don't think the WD will have shadow spells. He will have spirit spells. As for the plague, it is represented by the locusts so it is caused by animal. For fire, there is also the fire bats spell.

They didnt confirm the spells as passive on the pet, they siad that would make more sense, and stopped the using skills do do it. It would make SENSE, not WE HAVE DONE IT. Gotta look close.

Actually one of the Wd have "Black Magic Damage" wich really look likes shadow damage.
However the damage types in D3 are allways changing all the time so we really don't know how the Wd Spirirt/Curse spells will be classified.
Imo they should simply, instead of arcane, but a "Mystic" element. All kind of cosmic, spiritual and unknown nature spells/skills would have Mystic element damage. So the Wd would be Fire, Posoin and Mystic (and those elements really makes sense on him). Right now he is Fire, Poison, "Black Magic" and Arcane (a rly mess imo).
