Is it possible to get gear good enough to farm Act 3 with using only 8 mil or so?
Long story short I've been farming Act 3 on my DH, but since 1.0.3 dying too much counts, and I'm built glass cannon. If I want to say, exchange my shoulders for ones with survivability, it'll cost me about 3-5 mil. I'd almost rather gear my Monk and farm with him.
So how far do you think you can get right off the AH with this much, and what gear should I be looking for? I of course know to choose a resist and stack it + All, but what about weapons? Do we still want Life on Hit? How much should I spend on it? Is a socket important? What should I look for on Rings/Amulets?
well considering right on the front page is a monk who can clear act 2 spending only 200k... I would say with 8.5 it would at least be clearable if not farmable.
Dexterity
Resist all
1 chosen resistance (doesn't matter which, so long as you choose one and stick with it)
Crit chance
Life on hit
Improved attack speed
Vitality
These are the main stats to keep an eye out for. There are certainly others that help too (crit damage, f.ex.) but they aren't as necessary.
1 hander + shield, dual wielding, or a 2 hander works, though 2 hander kind of falls to the wayside when you get into Act 3/4. Works for Act 1 and 2 though. If you're just getting started, a 1 hander and a shield works wonders. Try to get as much block chance as possible on the shield.
Use an amethyst in your weapon and helm, emeralds otherwise. You don't need much vitality but having it on a few items will help a lot. The main thing is dexterity and those resistances, really. Those form a great foundation: you can work on individual stats from there.
EDIT: You know, I have to ask... How on earth did you manage to make 8.5 million before dinging 60? I know you said you've farmed Hell a lot, but bloody hell. I only recently got the 'loot 5m gold' achievement, and I've had a level 60 since launch week...

I've been farming Act 3 on my DH, meaning Act 3 Inferno.
Is anyone farming Act 3 reliably on their Monk? What kind of stats do you have?
I just spent about 2-3 million on everything except a weapon, I had to go up to higher prices in the 200k+ range to get some of the resist stats I was after. These are my stats now:
27k HP (my old weapon has 103 VIT, 720 DPS and Crit DMG)
5950 Armour (with Enchantress and Passive)
883 Resists
1604 Dexterity
183 Life Per Second
116 Life Per Hit (from a Ring)
14k DPS
For the weapon I'm willing to spend a mil or two, what should I be trying to get? Life on Hit? Socket? What DPS range?
Just tried some Act 3 and it's definitely not doable, at least with any sort of efficiency. Part of that is probably my weapon, but I'm wondering what else I need in order to make Act 3 farmable? My resists seem good, is my Armour too low? Need more LoH? DPS? Dex?
Everything seems fine (not having seen your gear). But I'd aim for 40k+ HP, and some crit. TBH, LOH isn't needed, nice if you can get it, but don't break the bank trying to get it, it is CLEARLY not needed (*points to Newti's stream).
Things to improve (based on what I see):
- HP
- Crit/crit dmg
- and raise your DPS by atleast 12k and you should be more solvent.
- armor and res is fine
If you don't get LOH, prepare to get a little pickup radius, and chase globes Practice in ACT1, till you get it down to a science. It will make things ALOT easier Trust me.

these are the 2 things that are lacking in your gear

And with that kind of money... good god, I wish I had it. I'd be alot better than I am now
