So like a lot of others, I am still up in the air on which class I want to play first.
The Monk is my first choice to this point, mainly because of the martial arts roots and I like fast melee.
I am hoping someone can clarify (if we know this info) how the combos work.
I have seen that normal attacks and combo moves build spirit, and the monks "more powerfull" abilities spend the spirit. Does this mean that each level of a combo move builds spirit (all three levels)? If so, I would have thought level three combo moves would be considered some of the Monks most powerfull?
The way I was invisioning it, we may invest in 3 combo skills for our 7 skill build. You would then dvelope different patterns for using these combs (level one hands of lightning, 2 crippling wave, 3 exploding palm) based on the situation. Am I off on this? Is t more of a 'use the same skill 3 times, then use the next'?
I just dont think I fully understand the way it works.. because if they are powerfull and add spirit wouldnt you just always be running around wih full spirit?
I kind of get the feeling that the Spirit mechanic has changed a bit from when it was first announced. Originally, Blizz told us that you use combo moves to generate Spirit and Finishers to expend it. Now, it seems like normal attacks and some weaker abilities will generate it, while more powerful abilities spend it. It's a small difference I think, but we never really saw any moves that were labeled as "Finishers" in the old system anyway. I'm still a little unclear on exactly how the combo moves will work in general so it's hard for me to speculate personally. Anyway...I don't really think we know right now what exactly will build Spirit and what will expend it. Maybe someone can correct me.
Yeah, but that's from Blizzcon. Bashiok said a week ago:

Spirit is static. It doesn't regenerate, and it doesn't degenerate. Punching demons and using melee skills builds Spirit, and most monk skills spend it.
Melee skills build it but most Monk skills spend it? Seems contradictory. Maybe "Monk skills" means non-attack skills like Auras, Blinding Flash, Serenity, etc?
It's safe to assume that weaker Monk skills (or basic skills) will generate Spirit, while the more powerful ones will spend Spirit. Now, the combo add to complexity, but we still don't know the details. It all reminds me of Rogue combo system from WoW. Basic skills build up Spirit, some skills build up combo points, while finishers do their damage depending on how many combo points and/or Spirit is used to perform them. It makes sense I think.
