Although they are not the complete trees. But we are almost certainly getting the tree system back, in one shape or another.
Thats execly what i tryed to say lol...
Those skill trees are very different from D2. Theres no "passive" tree or a tree dedicated to only one kind f skill. Every tree have everything. For exemple the barb tree are not divided in battle cry, masteries and combat. every tree have battle cries, masteries and combat skills.
To be honest, I just don't see how a monk fit's in Sanctuary
Sure why not? The sisterhood of the sightless eye (which sees all except the sisterhoods own demise) had a monastery for the sisterhood. Why not a few monks?

He'd fit in by having come from a long ways away because he heard about an unstoppable danger and he knew (or was told) that only he could stop Diablo.
Exactly, too simple. I just don't see a kung-fu master whooping demonic ass fits into the Diablo world
If they make the character do all kinds of very graphical radical flip flops and kicks and enhance his/her punches with some good graphics it might work. It would be the only character hat does it.
I think he would hurt his hand striking agaisnt let's say an Unburied.
First, let's get away from D3 having to be based in reality. The game concept itself is not based in reality. If you're really insistent on playing a game based on reality, go play Age of Empires or Sim-life.
Secondly, people who have practiced martial arts for years tend to have hands that have been toughened up from hitting wood, bricks, and steel plates. So, what would break an average person's hands would not even put a scratch on somebody with a black belt.
Monks could be great, I'd rather they used weapons than used thier fists though.
I'm not saying that weapons don't have a place for monks. They do have a set of unique weapons unto their own.
But I think that being able to do damage with their hands should be part of the character.
I just get a bit annoyed about people who want realism in a fantasy game. What's up with that?
I guess they believe paying taxes and buying milk at the local convenience store is all part of game play.
What I like about Monks in D&D they were super bad ass. Upper level monks could drop off a 100' wall and use the wall to buffer their fall without getting injured. They're fists and skin became harder and harder with each level they passed. They're stealth skills were unsurpassed, and they could attack with speeds only a Jedi could counter. Their stun punches were devastating and they became increasingly resistant to magic attacks. If they could incorporate features such as that into a D3 character, the monk would so rule.
Turmobil if you don't like the concept, fine. Just say so. But don't make up silly excuses like: "I think he would hurt his hand striking agaisnt let's say an Unburied."
We're talking about a world where people summon zombie dogs, shoot out flaming bats, slow time, teleport, shoot lightning, cleave whole zombies in two and jump 20+ feet into the air.
Realism plays a very small part in class design. All it comes down to is: Is the class fun and interesting to the majority and is there lore that could back it up.
Xiansai a seemingly asian island could house a eastern style monk easily. Or it would be a more western monk. Who's to say Zakarum didn't have monks that practiced martial arts. There is also this excerpt from the Sin War:
"Tis an old chapel or monk's abode, she said," Romus answered. "Serent' She told us that it was a
sign that we were directed to it. Said it would mark the beginning of a turn for all of us"
So there are apparently some sort of monks in Sanctuary. And that was BEFORE the Zakarum was even thought of.
Geek Mod On:
What I didn't like in D&D monks is that they are totally out of context. His the only eastern class in a group of of 10 western classes - ok, many defend that figther, rogue and ranger are both weatern and eastern. Still, his the only true eastern class in a group of other 7 true western class, shatering the context of the game.
In the forgotten relms the monks are cleary weatern monks, but why they learn matial arts instead of divine spells ?
The problem is that they putted the monk in the third edition just because he was very popular in the AD&D complement books. They should had added also Samurai and Ninja or added the monk only in the oriental adventures.

The situation is very different in D3, however. The more the diversification, the better.
I saw the maori vs shaolin. quite interesting. i woulf like to see more weapons for the monks. it would be nice to add the maori in there as well. that would be a killer 5th class

They do have a maori class. Except Blizz named them Barbarian now.
Computers cannot, and never will, determine a battle like the way that show does. I refuse to believe any results from that show.
They put Weapon vs Weapon, then do, what, 500vs500 on a computer? Where is the tactics? The user of the weapons abilities as a fighter? This is just what I have to say about it. I never once thought that a Monk wouldn't be awesome for D3, but even so, this is no hard evidence in the real world. As far as a game, sure, because that is what that show made it. A game.

I think he fits in just fine.
If he inherently doesn't fit, none of them really do.

Similar to the assassin concept.

And yeah Vegas I loved DnD monks
Quivering Palm was awesome.

Of course, that's only because they both wield weapon. If fighting each other weaponless, the big one normally win.
