With the latest PTR push I took a look at the sentries and what might be possible with them. They seem to be a major source of damage now, especially if you go the Custom Engineering route. My DH isn't max level so I didn't get to try it with increased rocket damage, but I've really enjoyed it so far.
It got me thinking about what possible builds could be made not only with Sentry but with the recent changes to Evasive Fire getting and armor buffed as well as Perfectionist getting armor and HP. Combined with the Boar pet there's some real potential for defensive and possibly even melee or close combat builds.
I made a video that went over some of the latest PTR push changes and focused on what Demon Hunters are getting with 1.0.5. I'd like to present it to possibly get a conversation going and see what you guys think. I'm especially interseted in what you veteran Demon Hunters might think about the way the skills and abilities are changing and what might be viable or not. Again, remember I'm not max level so what I have here is mostly conjecture.
A quick look at some of the minor changes to the last two PTR builds and a little overview of the Demon Hunter changes that have me excited. Looking forward to seeing some new and interesting builds and play styles for Demon Hunters thank to patch 1.0.5.

Thank you, sir. I was really hoping they would have included pre-made characters for the Diablo 3 PTR much like they do for WoW. I guess in D3 it's harder to do due to the more random nature of gear so it'd be hard to just give you gear, it might not be the right type that you need. I do need to spend more time with my characters, I want to eventually get them all up to 60
I have to admit I kind of wish you could target cast Sentry. The chain rune was interesting to me and it might be workable, but since you have to put it down then walk over the enemy (or run away a certain distance) to make use of it, it seems somewhat limited. I think they could make it so it has a cast radius somewhere between 20-35 Yd away it could work. The Sentry can't be killed anyway, so it's not like having it in an odd location would be exploitive.
I like that these defensive changes make skills like Fan of Knives - Retaliate or Chakram - Shuriken Cloud viable. combined with the damage nerfs, DH shouldn't die in one hit anymore if they gear into Resist and Vitality. A much needed fix. I was surprised once I started looking into it just how many defensive skills a DH has now. Evasive Fire, Perfectionist, Boar pet, Sentry with Defensive bubble, Numbing Traps, Shadow Power, and Smoke Screen. It's really amazing and it really gives the class some needed survivability without trapping us into needing that one uber defensive skill in all our builds (such as Warcry or OWE).
