So what do we do now? our top dps ability is nerfed.
Hitting 3 times a shot for a TON of damage a hit was OP, and was a bug. DH will now be more on par with other classes in dps (even though i believe they will still be very good if not the best still). Lightning ball hits twice instead of 3 times, use it, still OP.
Wow, just wow. My poorly geared DH who just got to a level of gear when I could comfortable clear Siegebreaker in 25 minutes is now going to suffer again.
I was fairly content with the IAS nerft as I was using very few pieces with IAS since I could not afford it anyway. Now everybody will go after crit hit chane or crit hit damage, which will make the gear expensive again and i wont be able to afford it any longer.
Buff to Siegebreaker is unknown yet but it can get ugly. And Im not even glass canon because I like to have some HP and bit of resitances to survive 1 hit from small shit that runs around. I cant afford high dex/vit/AR gear, therefore, Im forced to use weaker pieces or physical resistance instead of AR.
The notion that my main damage dealing skill is getting severely nerfed is just putting goose bumps on. Dont get me wrong, I hated every second on my DH when I hit 60 and was forced to use it. However, the potential was visible immediately and there was no going back. It will definitely impact normal clearing, e.i. trash packs, elites and champions, but the largest impact will be on boss kills. NT will now be one ugly looking slow projectile rune.
I'm speechless about the way Blizzard approaches these changes. Instead of adjusting other DH skills or item attributes, they just nerf everything down. I cant afford to have 3 offensive skills on my bindings, e.i. Hungering Arrow, Frost Arrow and Impale, because I would not survive for long. Not because im glass canon but because I need SS and Prep due to my low damage output relative to glass cannon builds.
Im triple-screwed by this patch.
Poorly geared? Clearing in 25 min for a run is pretty fast. If you can't play without a bugged (not nerfed, but bugged) skill, then pls uninstall.
3 pages of pain and agony...Feels like you actually didn't leveled-up your DHs by yourselves. How can you be so blind not to realize how Ball Lightning was and will be the best choice for an Elemental Arrow ability. It is the best AOE ability in the game beside zombie bears.
I don't even know why did you like nether Tentacles so much because we all got 1 shotted no matter what, and those 3% heal was useless because there was nothing to heal.
Wrong ... you only get one shot by "big stuff" ... there is a lot of little stuff that hits you that you don't die from. Little jumpy guys ... spear chuckers ... arrow chuckers ... etc, etc, etc. NT is great for refilling your health and keeping it full. I personally hated that NT has a smaller footprint then Lightning ... but liked the heal aspect.
If I switch back to Lightning, then I need to have some LoH or Regen. Neither of which I have been concerned with due to NT's heal.

You do know you can have up to 6 abilities on your bars, right? And honestly, you only need two defensive abilities anyway. If you have an offensive slow (IE. Frost Arrow / Entangling Shot), you dont need Caltrops; unless you're doing Istaku or whatever. SS / Prep is pretty much all you need to keep yourself alive 95% of the time.
@Moshrooms- Using an example of being a top 10 US WoW player means just about piss all here in Diablo. Cool, you killed a boss a nanosecond before 25 other guilds did. Heres your cookie. You also relied on 24 other people to not screw up (or 9 if you were in a 10 man guild), and most likely found your "Best build and BiS items" on Elitistjerks.com. I raided "hardcore" in the top 250 World for almost 7 years, but I dont bring that into an argument about a completely different game. It all boils down to the ability to adapt and overcome. If you cant do that, then you should probably go back to playing WoW full time. At least there you know that even if your class gets nerfed, you can still hit the same buttons and do exactly the same thing you were doing before, with a slight decrease in your damage / healing (or TPS if you were a tank).
It's funny to see all of the children whining about their damage being nerfed. The argument I see being used is "wizard still has this" or "WD still has this."
Take a step back and view things from a different perspective.
Your class was OP. The damage was absolutely ridiculous and now you're upset because you have to actually learn to play the game. Most DH (hell, ranged as a whole) have been able to get by primarily knowing how to click a mouse.
Before you cry about your class losing some damage, go check out monks. You'll realize your class isn't so bad.
your whole argument is that all ranged are OP so dh should be nerfed? are you stupid or just trolling? We were not the highest damage ranged class before now were the lowest damage ranged class by a good margin. atleast this means in 1.1 we can only get buffed whell mages and wd's get fucked but still We get 2 weeks of being garbage.
I fully agree with you that ranged as a whole is OP. The argument is that a vast majority of DH are using the argument that they shouldn't be nerfed because wizards and witch doctors aren't nerfed...yet! Yet is the big keyword there.
Just wait in line for the nerfs to happen. I play 2 toons, my SC monk and HC barb. My monk has been garbage and is recognized as the worst, most broken class in the game. But instead of flying my nerf flag to every other class board, I just continue to do what I've been doing...playing the game.
You take a dps hit, you take a skill hit, etc...it doesn't break the game. It may alter your playstyle, but you are still fully capable of playing and progressing.
love it, back to frost arrow like once more. hated beeing pigeon holed into tentacles cuz they were so damn op
you like losing damage? assuming your the kind of player stuck in act 1 huh?
you like bein forced in a single build? assuming you're the kind of player that need to find a build in the internet.
i never used nether tentacle and i'm glad they are nerfing it, now you will need to think a little more to play.
besides, does'nt really matter with you are stronger or the weaker ranged class if you can kill everything in your way anyway.
not really im the kind of player who was top 10 US when i raided hardcore in wow and still play at that level in diablo. I make the builds and play them better than 95% of people It just sucks that we now got our mathmatically best way to play nerfed to shit and have to go back to theorycrafting a new way to not be the worst class.
If you were a top player you wouldn't need to rely on the obvious OP build every other DH in this thread is whining about. You aren't top, you aren't hardcore, you are just another 12 y/o trying to make a point using personal skill as a qualification for stating a nerf isn't warranted. You are so badass and tested all other builds, and your awesome talents prevented you from progressing except using NV.
Of course, you haven't played with the global damage reduction in Act 2-4, so you have no idea how much less dmg things will be doing to you, or how that plays out in comparison. Or wait, in your all-knowing awesomeness and top 1% skill level, have you already crunched all the numbers in your head while curing cancer and solving the issue of world peace?
And WTF with "Whaa, I can't a hit". Stack enough vitality/RA/armor to take a hit then. i know, it sucks you can't just spam arrows off the screen, and Blizz is forcing you to learn hos to play in a manner that doesn't guarantee loot with little chance of death. Welcome to melee.
After reading the patch notes I am sure glad I switched back to my barb as soon as I heard the repair cost increase... Atleast we still have spamming hungering arrow from out of range in PVP, any bets that will get nerfed too?

The nerf to NT doesn't really bother me. As others have said it just means that I can experiment with other hatred spenders and not feel like I'm totally bad or subpar for doing so.
What I'm more interested to see is if the damage reduction makes stacking survival stats actaully valid for Demon Hunters.
yes everyone lost out on IAS, I get that - BUT with less IAS NT would tick less on hit boxes. So problem solved right there. I don't think 2 ticks per NT was OP. 4 or 5 was certainly overpowered. In comparison to Ball Lightning though, you are sacraficing your AoE to do more damage. Thats how damage should work. 200 damage over 10sqft or 400 damage over 5sqft.
Problem is you rarely had "10sqft" to kill. Most mobs are in neat little 6 or 7 man packs, what happened to Diablo II. When you kite 100 cows around in a circle and you NEED to hit all of them at once with a gigantic AoE. This is why no one was using Ball Lightning, that much AoE was never really needed.
As far as using NT with missile dampening, I think that was just a weakness of the random buff on monsters and shouldn't be fixed. Just like illusionist is a weakness to life on kill items... not everything can be perfectly balance to everything else. NT will do more damage to one mob but less to another. More damage to big high health slow moving targets, less damage to fast small targets.
In a way, I feel this is warranted because NT was so much better than the other Elemental Arrow skills. I do wish they buff some other skills to give us some clue as to which way to go though.
DH just became the worst ranged class, cool ^_^. Good thing i'm just gnna farm on my barb anywho seeing how everything is nerfed n stuff
Nah there is this class called the Witch Doctor.
This buff was needed undoubtedly. Its just like when Guided Arrow in Diablo 2 would just tear things apart with pierce. They got rid of that quickly when everyone rolled Amazons and that was it. Considering all the nerfs in Inferno and the attack speed afix, I am confident another great DH build will arrive. Of course my DH is in hardcore so my skills are completely different then these high dps builds, but I feel that's the best balance, and hey after having repair cost go higher, maybe more DH will start playing more like hardcore, DON'T DIE!
I really dont understand the logic behind this. If the ability was hitting one target multiple times. i thought it was implied that it depended on the mass fo the target. Smaller target less procs and so forth. Would had been better to increase the cost of the ability to leverage the damage output. I feel sometimes that the developers tasked with implementing the skills were working independently per skill for them not to see this coming. A proper alpha and beta would had revealed this. Maybe next time Blizz.
Honestly, considering my DH in 60 blues can outdamage my Wizard in gear worth about ~10 million (since I actually get survival stats), I feel that Demon Hunters will still be fine after this patch. They'll probably still be the best ranged class (and if they aren't - that's fine too - you can't always be the 'best'), except on Siegebreaker. Impale with the Stun rune is not bad against Champions and Bosses, and (believe it or not) the Dual Chakrams rune is actually quite good.
Man I feel you, my monk is really going to suffer with the nerf to my piercing punch that goes through everyone and hits them 4 times and costs almost nothing and can be done from across the map.
I really don't know what I am going to do....I don't want to quit eating with my left hand and use my keyboard, but this nerf almost directly requires it.
WTF BLIZZARD, YOU TRYING TO MAKE ME USE TWO HANDS? THIS IS UNFAIR! YOU ARE JUST GOING TO MAKE ME RAGEQUIT AND PUBLICALLY POST IN HERE THAT YOU LOST A CUSTOMER!
Elemental Arrow with BL is probably your best AOE skill right now...it has a large range, it does a decent damage, and its hatred cost is low. Losing Marked for Death and adding Impale for single targets. My Azmodan kills just got a lot more harder, since I was killing him in Inferno before his AOE....probably I wont do it now....but whatever....I will keep my MF runs on Leoric for gold and High LVL itens
I could have sworn that Blizzard said recently they wanted to buff the other demon hunter abilities to make them more attractive. This was disappointing, but not really surprising. I mean, seriously; what Demon Hunter DIDN'T use this ability as their main nuke.
Back to Freezing Arrow maybe..?
yeah but this isnt the balance patch 1.1 is. So basically we take it up the ass right now and get nothing back and have to wait untill next patch to be viable again.

Yeah the lifeleech is handy, but MOST DH-s don't have enough HP to take a hit at all The main reason for NT being superior was the fact that Ball lightning does only half the damage, yet both could hit the same target more than once. Now with this change both are equally viable.
A) Life Leech: I didn't say life leech ... I said Life on Hit and Life Regen and the point still stands.
Can't Take a Hit: Just cause most DH's tunnel vision gear doesn't change the point ... you need to have *something* to refill your health as it gets ticked down by general non-one-shot things. I
Most DH's have been find with 8k - 12k repair bills for dying a lot. Blizzard has upped the repair cost. Not sure how much, but what if it was 5x? how are most DH's going to feel with 40-50k repair bills? Not sure what the increase is, but their intent was to force players to pay more attention to staying alive. Something I already started to gear for and I generally do more damage then my pub-mates and stay alive longer ... at least compare to other DH's and Wizzards.

Here is the one I'll be trying today. Since I already invested hard in Crit chance and damage, IAS nerf wont affect me much.

But ball lightning multihits for 2x but only doesn't like 70% per hit. Don't trust tooltips.
