The Demon Hunter is a CC monster house. Imagine you jump into the front of the line, drop caltrops, then flip back and start shooting out entangling shots. Any mobs that were trying to rush have been stalled big time, this lets your melee get into a better position to keep the mobs back.
I don't remember exactly where but didn't Jay Wilson/Bash (or some other blue) comment that groups roles such as tanks and healers aren't very prevalent in Diablo 3? The quote was something to the effect of "every class is a demon slaying class."
I'm sure there will be plenty of viable inferno groups that don't use the MMO paradigm.
CC..DMG..AOE..what does other classes bring?.. Dont rant the demon hunter it might come back and bite you in the ass in pvp xD
I personally am rolling a Demon Hunetr first .... I agree DH is vastly underated and will be a powerhouse late in the game with strong gear hence.... Windforce bow etc... and yes for PVP ... God in my opinion

The only thing the DH has going for her is pure hardcore unrelenting

The DH has Dmg and slow, which everyone else has as well. So the only thing she really has going for her is that she isn't a WIZARD, who is easily the weakest link in group play.

I think that the cool thing about the DH is that she has the mobility to slip through a wall of monsters and lock down a specific mob, like a summoner or hive of sort. I think on paper she does not appear to have a lot to offer the group, but I think it will depend on the DH's play style. I think this same mobility can be found in the monk.... but it depends if the Monk wants to play that way.

Too bad sentry is a bad joke...
Why does everyone keep bringing this thing up, though I suppose in group play you might not need your disc for anything else. I just hate this skill. if it brought the pain like hyrda then sure, but its kinda pathetic on paper.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!

20% is a bad joke but 28% is "bringing the pain"? I don't see your logic here..
But yeah, Sentry is one of the skills I probably won't use..

Lightning Hydra is 34% on 3 heads = 102%
Arcane Hydra is 28% in small AoE on 3 heads = 84% w/ AoE
But you can only have 1 hydra out.
Discipline could go as high as 75 in game I think, so that is potentially like 8 Sentries. Each one doing 20% wpn dmg for 30 seconds. It could definitely do some good single target dps like that. A passive could bring that up to a minute. Aid station could have the sentries heal nearby players for 1% each. With enough sentries that 1% would start to add up.
Of course this is like best case scenario on a boss fight.
In single player its probably something you should never pick.

I don't understand the animosity towards Demon Hunters. On paper it looks like they do the highest single target dps, or close to it, and if bosses have 40 mil+ health, who/what do you expect to be killing the damn thing?
What skills, what benefits, etc....
What does the Demon Hunter bring to the battle ?
Discuss..
Other classes will take care of the rest.

Great point...
-> Marked for death - damage debuff or heal (see death tool rune)
-> Sentry - Survival: damage reduction or heal over time.
-> Many many snares to that times the fight gets really hard.
-> For damage, he has insane aoe with multiple abilities.
-> For CC, he has some abilities that give a plenty of stuns, even fear.

I built this in 1 min but basically this is how I think of a group conscious DH.

I'll admit some other skills could be handy but it's definitely not useless for a support type DH.
