First of all thanks a lot for this awesome topic and all the information, I'm certainly going to create such a Demon Hunter.
I've got a question, what exactly the difference between the normal prep and prep with focussed mind, it seems to me that 45disc over 15 seconds is worse then 100% instant disc?
//edit: and another question, does perfectionist work with runed prep? like 20 disc will be 20(-20%)?
You start off with only 30 discipline, so unruned prep yields a maximum of 30 discipline. Also, its far more likely that you are not at 0 discipline, thus the actual amount of discipline returned via unruned prep would be in mid 20's.
Focused mind prep yields 45 discipline over 15 seconds. This also eliminates any waste caused by not being at 0 discipline, as you can use this version of prep just about anytime and still be able to spend it quickly enough. The fact its not instant just means you have to plan out spending slightly better.
Essentially what you have is 45 > mid 20's.
Perfectionist should work with punishment, but there is always a chance it doesn't either due to design or a bug.
I chose the following skills:
-Multishot / suppression fire (obviously for discipline generation and aoe dmg)
-Rapid fire / web shot (I wanted to have a single target skill with slow in case of boss fights for example)
-Vault / tumble (I think this is mandatory for hardcore, when I'm in a tight spot I'll be able to vault away multiple times with low discipline cost)
-Shadow power / gloom (life leech is a nice way to stay alive in hardcore)
-Preperation / focussed mind (I will need the discipline for keeping up shadow power)
-Entangling shot / chain gang (This in combination with multi shot might keep the enemies at bay so I can use the Broodling passive.
Passives:
-Broodling (I'm hoping to have this up more then 75% of the time, thats why I use entangling shot as well)
-Tactical advantage (Safety first, with this passive I might be able to get out of tight spots quickly)
-Perfectionist (Obvious choice to reduce discipline cost)
So what do you guys think of this build?
Rather than critque this build, I'd rather just tell you to wait until the game comes out, or you get inot beta, before you try to go really hard theorycrafting builds.
For example, out of combat you can just tele to town and heal up to full and then tele right back where you were. As such brooding has no use out of combat, and it has very limited use in combat. It would be impossible to really get that unless you had played in the beta a ton. I don't think it's common knowledge out of the beta that you can talk to the one priest guy in town and he fully heals you.
If you wanna theorycraft, I recommend making a list of synergistic passive and active skills, then use that later to help make builds. For example, the best rocket runed skill is cluster arrow. Ballistics increases rocekt dmg and grenadier decreases hatred cost of cluster arrow. Thus cluster arrow + ballistics + grenadier have great synergy because you are min/maxing a primary dmg skill. Making a mental note of relationships like that across all the classes will really have you ahead of the rest of people once the game is released, much more than having made a lvl 60 build based on very spotty information and little to no actual time in game.

Worst advice in history. Grats!

Say goodbye to your beloved builds, the patch 16 is coming !
RIP demon hunter ...
Night Stalker : Critical Hits restore 21 Discipline.
Perfectionist : Reduces Discipline by 2010%
Multishot Cost: 1540 Hatred !!!
Breathe Deep : Cost: 2414 Discipline. You gain 206 Hatred per second for 32 seconds. !!!!
Punishment : Restore all Hatred for 2025 Discipline.
Demon hunter will be fine. Pretty much every good and spam worth disc talent got huge disc cost reductions.
What we can say is that no hatred regen builds will be possible without Punishment now since they chopped down the hatred gen on shadow power and smoke screen as an adjustment with their massive disc cost nerfs.

Breath deep is 5 hatred for 2 seconds = 10 hatred
Shadow power is 4 hatred for 3 seconds = 12 hatrd
Honestly these rune options seem to be quite bad now .
They might have needed to be toned down, but this is bit much...

Thats what I just said. "no 'hatred regen' builds will be possible now without Punishment"
Breath deep is 5 hatred for 2 seconds = 10 hatred
Shadow power is 4 hatred for 3 seconds = 12 hatrd
