I'm using the blessed shield build with the Jekangbord.
So last night I finally got the courage to jump into T3 solo from my usual T1 runs, not expecting much but experimenting. Surprisingly enough my crusader did fine as long as I didn't get walled into AoE ground effects. DPS wise in fact, he excelled... so long as there was some mob density. In rifts usually this isn't a problem, even rift bosses you can run around until there are some other mobs to bounce shields off of.
It's the bounties where we have to kill bosses like the butcher and adrianna that it becomes a REAL pain in the ass. How do other people who run a similar build deal with this? I tried switching blessed shield to fist of heaven but that had ehh results. Is there a better single target dps holy skill to splurge into?
As an aside, please recommend any gear/skill changes that I should aim for in order to become more T3 efficient. I could solo a T3 rift in about 3 or 4 more mins longer than it takes me to clear a T1, I usually die once per rift, and I get more legendary drops and gold (so far) so I think it's worth staying in.
What I've been doing (yeah it still takes a little longer but not as painful) is switching one of my skills to Laws of Valor - Unstoppable Force. Combined with Akarat's Champion - Rally, it allows many more shields to go out per full wrath pool. It also helps that I have 3 piece (4 with grandeur ring) Akkhan set so it makes them free for however long that lasts.
I do aggro more mobs vs a rift boss if possible but vs solo boss fights like the butcher or the spider queen (I do Act I bounties a lot for that elusive ring) there aren't mobs to aggro. The butcher especially is a massive pain in the ass when it takes like 10 mins to kill him and the fire starts to be up constantly...
I'll try phalanx bowman to see if that helps, thanks.
In addition to Blessed Shield with Shattering throw use Shield Bash w/ Pound. It works very well. Before my Crusader died, I was critting for anywhere from 20mil to 26 mil on elites with Helm of Rule, Stone of Jordan, Justice Lantern, and a 17% Jekangbord. Punish buffs your block chance more, too, but turns into more damage for Blessed Shield and Shield Bash.
My skill build was:
Punish w/ Roar
Shield Bash w/ Pound
Steed Charge w/ Rejuvenation (found it necessary on hardcore)
Blessed Shield w/ Shattering Throw
Laws of Valor w/ Critical
Akarat's Champion w/ Rally
Renewal
Heavenly Strength
Hold Your Ground
Divine Fortress
Try it out, it's a lot of fun and I actually didn't miss having a skill like Heaven's Fury, Bombardment, Provoke, Condemn, etc instead of Shield Bash. Reaper's Wraps really helps this build, by the way. Try to get ones with both Holy damage and crit chance.
I'm currently using a similar build but like everyone said, use Phalanx - Bowmen and also try using Justice with Hammer of Pursuit, if you can get at least 1 item (belt or pants) with +Justice dmg, your single will be better than Slash - Zeal
Yes Slash is a mini aoe but you don't need it
so it's Slash - Zeal (190%) vs. Justice - HoP (300%)... both Holy
first of all to help your wrath generation use justice or smite there is no reason to be using melee skill when you building blessed shield and yeah in every build you got advantages in this one the massive hits on multiple targets the disadvantage is hitting single target if you are in a rift you cant really swap but if you going to face butcher i would advice you got remove judgment and put heavens fury and instead of blessed shield use shield bash or fist of heavens but the other skills are just the same basicly
