I'm surprised nobody mentioned cubed ingeom for tX speed farming with thorns invoker build. For GR, I've just kind of completed the gear (half ancients, far from perfect rolls) and with the build Quin used for his latest 86 clear, I managed a 74 with no problems on 2nd try (Boy gem at like 52). Afterwards, I only changed laws for pony and put in geom in cube and I was absolutely WRECKING TX. I mean it wasn't even funny, Globaled elites, trash died when I looked at them, + pretty much perma pony and with already high cdr from gear, I had all cds up all the time. Tankiness obviously remained so it was just fast/furious and relaxing gameplay.
I think it comes down to high much thorns you already have. Top tier topaz gives 64k thorns afair. So you need more or less 320k thorns damage, for it to be equal to 20% damage increase. Since my gear is severly lacking i don't know if it's possible to achieve such number (this is without Iron Maiden), but judging from what i currently have equipped i'd say it's gonna be difficult to get your thorns damage so high. Thorns damage you get from armor is not huge, then you can get some from Boy Chip and Topaz.
TL;DR - if you don't have TOP quality of gear with max rolls on thorns, and a very high level of Boy's Chip then you're better of with topaz.
1 point of STR is in fact 1% damage. But to calculate 'an increase' to damage, you have to look at it from a different angle. My 'calculations' were based on a character with 10k STR. In this situation one STR gem that provides you with 280 STR, increases your damge output by 2,8%. One vitality gem increases your thons by 1400 thorns (with Heart of Iron equipped/cubed). For this to be an increase of 2,8% you'd need to have more or less 50k thorns damage, which as i mentioned is incredibly low.
TL;DR if you have 200k thorns damage then a VIT gem is 0,7% damage increase. More or less 4 times less than an STR gem.
I think that gearing for a Punish/Bombardment damage for top GR is silly, beacuse it's such a small portion of thorns crusader damage. For TX it might be nice to have some other builds, for if you wan't to push it's not gonna work.
Hmmm. Donno bout 70+ not runnin such on sader. I was runnin few 60+ on Forvald's Favor thorns build and imo bombardment deals insanely hihg dmg. Tho I had %skill on shield, chest and shoulders. I was wondering bout da same 4 full Invoker build. When encounter high density then thorns itself kk but while 5-6 mobs packs with elite? Also was wonderin bout broken promises here as I used it on steed build. Crit hits from bombarment one shots elite on 60gr 4 example.
Gonna test Invoker+Mortal Drama and cubed Hack. But as 4 punish/slash dmg itself ya right man, cuz set deals 600% of thorns while usin dat attacks and not raise it's dmg itself. So ma guess Depth Diggers not exactly needed here. I ran only few lo gr and without any main stat added via new cube recipe so far. Had ancient gloves str vit all res and cdr and shoulders str vit cdr and %bombardment. And da rest non ancient atm.
But I will definetely try dat out while 2.4 comes live. Can be pretty good build 4 party play.
Oh btw one thing dat wonders me most. Atm %physical dmg boostin thorns dmg and set mention 2 skills Punish and Slash. While punish is kk...Slash do not have physical rune man o.O WTF?
Kk small update...tested Invokers on punish with decent not op gear bout 12kkk on hit. But m8s..... I've assigned slash attack on Norvald's build.... 16kkk!!! o.O like WTF! and while debuffed with iron skin, laws ect, I've seen bombardment crit 43kkk ^^ and yup rg on lower gr is one shot mothafuka but indeed healing is issue here. So I suppose still full Invoker will rule on top of da board.
And btw I've cubed hack instead of Mortal drama on Steed build and it seems doin great. I had just bout 280k thorns and on Invokers fairly 400k.
Does anyone know if +% ability damage also buffs thorns damage added by means of Hack or 6pc Invoker?
Or better... Has anyone tested that thoroughly?
And abuout crits... From the last posts I understood that critical hits of Bombardments are actually boosted by thorns damage (thorns damage is computed in the critical damage multiplier) is that really so or I misunderstood everything?
I did not test, but i'd say that % ability damage shouldn't increase 6pc bonus or Hack. These attacks deal additional thorns damage whenever a skill hits, whereas Bombardment or Consecration deal thorns damage as baseline for the skill.
I'm assuming that % ability damage works for Bomb and Cons, but not for Punish/Slash.
I'm pretty sure that anything above GR70 won't tolerate lost affixes (% Bombardment damage), and a Broken Promises, or lost attack speed from a 2H weapon. It just won't be viable. Remember that you're also loosing a skill slot.
To be honest I have a problem understing what you want to say, cause of your 1337.
So I'm assuming that you think it's nice to have %bomb, and that it 'works for you'. This says absolutly nothing, there is no data to back it up, there is no build ot support it, there are no numbers.
Only thing that you've been saying for past three days is that you like Mortal Drama and Bombardment, and that's cool, this is Diablo afterall and it's purpose is to be fun for whoever it's playing it. But when it comes to min maxing, and pushing, there is no place for gimmicks.
If you want to present your idea, please do that with a bit more insight. You realize that you have to loose either CDR affix or %life affix, to get %bomb. This is huge. Just to increase one skill (which is not your main source of damage), by 15% percent.
Aaa kk m8 tho I run on Steed build not full Invoker. And here U'r right. On full Invoker 15% bombardment can be nothin game changin instead of 8% cdr.
Kinda hard 2 see dmg numbers correctly cuz of all debuffs than can be placed on enemies hmm.
And 4 ma curiosity how deep can go Invoker without unity? I was wondering bout it as 4 party play. Entered single 75 and it was kinda hard 2 stand still without double unity. Any suggestions 4 that? And maybe some substitute 4 Akarats champion? Some party based skill judgement or so?

For an invoker set you have:
- Aquila Cuirass (50% plain damage reduction because you generally don't use spenders).
- Justice Lantern (you get % damage reduction based on part of youe block %).
- Belt of the Trove (bombardments from the belt proc the 50% damage reduction from the Invoker's set and since it has a 20 seconds duration it becomes a 50% constant damage reduction).
Something a bit more gimmicky:
- Akarat's Awakening shield + high CDR + Iron Skin.
