Are you bored of monk tanks, bored of dying to fire chains, electricity and other stuff that other classes can avoid ? Use this build and finish highest barbarian greater rifts with no problems! Tested this spec on 49GR and it works!

I am playing this build every day with my friends and/or random dps we take with us. We usually run in 3 (mage, dh without taskers and me) or in 4 (mage, 2x dh and me). In 100% cases we finish the rifts up to 47, yesterday weve almost finished 45 in time in 3 ppl. Our highest finished rifts that we finished in time are 3man - 44 and 4man - 49.
things you need :
skull of resonance - this is pretty much your best thing since after charming the enemy elite it will logically disable some of his affixes (fire chains)
xephirinan amulet - immunity to lighting, whats more to add
kredes flame finger - this will keep your fury maxed out against molten and fire chains (with 5000 life per fury from ignore pain that is almost 100% up you will spam rend and sprint which will keep your health topped and meanwhile it will buff the party with 100% uptime sprint and 10% dmg)
stormshield - well this thing just keeps you alive
pride of cassius - (need atleast 5 sec increased ignore pain) almost 100% uptime on ignore pain with this
you are immune to lightning and lightning heals you - use it !
ALWAYS go first, never let your dps go first, they will die from charge or ambush of some unexpected monster and this will only slow you down
use charge with element that is different from your dps elements, this will disable angels from act 4
if you see fire chains, either use threatening shout to charm atleast one elite or charge in with ignore pain and spam rend and sprint (with krede flame you have infinite fury)
dont use resource reduction items or paragon levels, they will decrease your healing
stunlock jailer and thunderstorm (they fucking kill your dps) or announce to your dps that you will not be able to cc the mobs
get cooldown reduction to 50% so you can charge 2 mobs, this is a huge advantage and will keep your enemies stunlocked and your dps alive
learn to charge so you can make huge packs to aoe and cc
keep sprint and rend up to boost your party with dps and speed and movement impairing effects
dont be afraid to run from the pack if you taunt them, they wont attack your dps
while in ignore pain you can ressurect anyone even if you are taking damage
dont use relentless passive, it will decrease your dmg by 50% and cost by 75% => decreasing your healing by 75%, making this useless
- trials -
change your head to leoric crown for more cd reduction so you can charge even faster, moving the mobs you need to the spot you need as fast as you can so your dps can kill all the demons in time
change your war cry for war stomp with pull so you can pull the mobs really fast to the middle
otherwise just stay in middle keep pressing sprint and rend and taunt
- greater rifts -
Start by buffing the party with war cry, sprint. Charge first mobs, keep hoarding the mobs untill you reach elites. Now you have a fucking huge pack to aoe, press threatening shout. Threatening shout will taunt all mobs to you for 8 sec (with inspiring presence), it will also charm 50% of the mobs, those mobs will stay on the place tanking the reminding mobs while you run out. Now watch the elite affixes you see, if there is nothing that will kill your dps, keep this pack on place (charmed mobs will tank them). Now either wait for the elites to die (keep charging them so they dont use jailer/thunderstorm) or if they are weak, use sprint and go find another elites, pull those elites with another monsters closer to your party. If those elites are hard, stunlock them with charge, if they are week, charm them and go search for another pack to pull to your party.
I am also happy to announce to you that this build is a hell of a lot fun than our classic dps build. If you are looking for a good way to upgrade your gems without luck factor and without searching for conduit, go for it.

Yep, it's a pretty nice build. Props on getting on 44+ and keep going! You can beat dem perma voodoo WDs!
I use a similar build but I change sprint for cold ancients (+10% crit to mobs) or ground stomp - wrenching smash, since 1) I'm pretty bad raekoring 2) it provides an additional cc for the mobs and the rg and 3) I think you get enough healing with just rend (I might be wrong though).

Do you mean that if I set physical (for example) then it won't mitigate damage from the rest of the party if they use any other element?
Unless they've changed it, the Gem of Efficacious Toxin (which you recommend using) will be the first thing to hit Corrupted Angels, no matter what your charge rune is. If you're using the gem, you can use any charge element you want, hitting them will always cause them to put up a poison element shield.

If the 35% damage increase procs off of Skull of Resonance, then it's likely worth at least considering.
EDIT: Looked into it a bit, looks like the damage proc only applies to charm from the amulet, unfortunately... so probably not a good choice.
Yes i was thinking about it, but the immunity to electric dmg is pretty much a must on 42+ if you want to be usefull tank, otherwise the mobs would be flying all over the screen because you wont be able to cc them constantly. Yesterday weve almost finished 45 but for some reason when i pulled half the map into one pack it lagged us for ~2 minutes and after that we were all dead. Ive also tried to make a video, but it lags like hell when you pull more monsters together (which you do all the time).
The legendary poison gem is nice but when i run with my friends we usually have a wizard with this gem, so i use 8% CDR on finger instead.
I was hoping to try 2x dh, wd (pure dps with totem) and tank barb, that could be fun. Anyway for me doing solo greater rifts makes no sense, i have more xp like this, more gem upgrades, faster rifts, coop multiplayer and lots more legendaries, waiting for conduit for me makes a rly shitty gameplay compared to this.
Today we have finally finished 45 in time, almost finished 46 in time. Setup was barb tank, pet dps wd (without any cc), fire mage and sentry dh, very fun comp.
This looks like a really fun build, but any build requiring a Xephirian Amulet makes me sad. After 700+ hours played on my barb (at least 200 of those since the last big patch) I've never even seen a Xephirian, and gambling amulets is awful =(
It might be possible to use some other resist neck, frost becomes even bigger problem than electric on higher tiers. Viable neck could be even the one with ranged dmg reduction or hellfire with some defensive passive. If you boost thoughness high enough, it might be possible without any defensive neck, like the neck from act 3 as one guy pointed earlier, it will increase your group dps by 35% which is pretty cool. For example if you switch krede flame (because on higher tiers you take a lot of dmg so you also generate a lot of fury) for compass rose with all resist, life %, armor and vitality and socket and if you find better defensive weapon like the physical onehand with life % you could boost your thoughness up to 200 mil, that could allow you to ignore all affixes. Electric neck is not really needed after all, it is just a very good item for any meelee build.
Almost finished 47GR today in group, missed like 5 seconds. We finished 46 in time with WD tank, barb tank, dh and mage. The key is to drag gadzilion mobs to one pack.

Tweaked my gear a little, started using illusionary boots, it helps a lot.
Real problem is not the game mechanics, IMHO barb is the best support tank because nobody can pull so many mobs. The problem comes with the blizzard servers. If you pull too many mobs your group will die because of server lag. Electric elites lag even if they are alone and as barb you will pull 50+ mobs to this elite, your group will surely die. When blizzard fixes those lags barbs will be the best support tank and you wont even need good density because of sprint and charge, that i am certain.
I changed the priorities in paragon, i think now it was just default setup from the editor.
Most important are the cooldown reduction and thoughness boosting stats (depends on what you need most).
Dont take resource cost reduciton at all, it will only fuck up your healing per fury.
Actually i have started using these http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/ancient-parthan-defenders instead of the dmg bracers because i am usually running outside of the group so they wont boost anybody. With ancient parthan defenders you dont need any resist neck!

This cannot be done with any other tank than barb, no other class can run through rift and get all the mobs back to be dpsed on one place. Barbarians are missing the cheat death passive so hard right now and relentless is useless because it reduces life per fury healing which makes it counterproductive.
Another interesting fact is that if you want to play barb tank to its full strength blizzard will have to fix their servers. Imagine barb tank in canals map dragging the whole map into wds fear & piranhas and summoning rift boss in less than 5 minutes. That is simply not possible right now because right as you drop the mobs into lightning dhs your server will lag so much that your party will be dead as soon as the lag starts.
