There are a ton of items out there that can add to your lightning skill damage, and with this build, despite the armory damage, it's more like 185k. The lightning proc from Fulminator is amazing, and hits all the time, especially when cleaving / Overpowering in a group. With this build, there are no rage spenders (aside from Battle Shout), so running Berserker Rage works very well. WIthout any item cooldown reduction, Earthquake is only 35 seconds and maintains your full rage.
Other items that would help this build (that I haven't been fortunate enough to get yet!):
And of course all the multitudes of items that can roll +Lightning Skill damage.
@ALL : Just click the very first line of his post, that's a link to his barb.
I'm playing another variation on thunder right now, here's the build.
I've been lucky enough to get a Thunderfury and those little babies (yeah, i'm french, so in case you're too lazy to translate : +17% to thunder damage, 305 strength, 201 vitality, +12% movement speed) :
Yeah I'm liking that Odyn Son... lets hope I can find one of those! I've seen numerous amulets and rings from Clansmen with elemental damage on them, but I have yet to see one myself. I imagine one could get lightning skill damage up very high stacking gear, and considering I already crush through Torment 3 with this spec, I'd love to see how it evolves with the right gearing.
Please feel free to link more items you've seen that would contribute to this build!
I was going for the full rage 25% bonus, but I'm sure there are numerous other combos that would work well. Lots of gear to buff up lightning for barb!
I find lightning barb very interesting and I instantly fell in love with it. Just replaced Cleave with Seismic Slam.
Yeah, I'm using 2 fury spenders because with the Wind Shear Rune on the WW, the Unforgiving and the Weapons Master (my off-hand weapon is a Mighty Weapon) passives my fury's almost never going down while using WW, so I can afford to use HotA for high damage on single targets/small packs.
I'm going to try to make a video of this build by the end of the week.
EDIT : Oh yeah, forgot to add that Superstition does help with Fury generation too ! If you've got a high enough combo of resists and life regen you can just stand in whatever elemental AoE the elites are popping and have an almost infinite source of Fury
OP - why do you use Frenzy and Cleave? You either Frenzy or Cleave, you can't use them at the same time. I'd swap out Cleave for Rend or Revenge, both deal good AoE damage, Rend costs next to nothing, Revenge is free.
The whole point of this build is to stack as much Lightning as possible, while keeping max Rage. Revenge does have a lightning rune, but it blasts everyone away, and Rend does not have a lightning rune at all. On single targets, I use Frenzy 100%, but on groups, I cleave them down since it can hit everything at once. Also, when cleaving, I randomly throw in a Frenzy to make sure my speed buff stays up at 5 stacks. That way when I switch back to it, I don't have to re-stack the attack speed buff. The combination of Cleave, Overpower + Earthquake turns large groups into rubble almost instantly, and Frenzy allows me to sustain single target fights easily. I'll try to record a vid on T3 tonight to demonstrate.
Quote from leland814»Also, when cleaving, I randomly throw in a Frenzy to make sure my speed buff stays up at 5 stacks.
I thought about this, but noticed that my cleaves weren't actually any faster; upon closer inspection, the Frenzy ability clearly states that it only affects the attack speed of Frenzy itself.
I never said Frenzy made cleave faster, but I go back and forth all the time depending on what is near me, so I like to keep the speed refreshed before it falls off.
Example: I come upon a large group with a champion pack. I run in, Frenzy my way to full rage (much faster than cleaving), mixing in Overpower on cooldown. Upon reaching full rage I pop Earthquake (waiting until full rage is a MUST for earthquake), start Cleaving while making sure Frenzy is kept at 5 stacks, and as soon as there are less than 5 mobs, pretty much 100% Frenzy on the champions. The Lightning proc mixed with Overpowers will finish off any remaining non-elites pretty quickly.
I'm not saying this is the only skill combo to use, but I find it to be very good for both large packs of mobs AND single targets. I also played around with HotA for a bit last night and liked it, but decided I liked full rage better.

I made an incorrect inference; my mistake. Clarification is much appreciated.

in game non of my tool tips say anything about turning over power ect into lightening
The Killing Spree rune quite clearly states that it makes Overpower deal lightning damage.

Frenzy (Smite Rune): Each hit has a chance to call down a bolt of lightning from above, stunning the enemy for 1.5 seconds.
Cleave (Broad Sweep): Increases damage to 210% weapon damage as Lightning.
Overpower (Killing Spree): Your Critical Hit Chance is increased by 8% for 5 seconds. Overpower's damage turns into Lightning.
Earthquake (Mountain's Call): Remove the Fury cost and reduce the cooldown to 50 seconds. Earthquakes damage turns into Lightning.
You can also see for any skill what type of damage it does (if any) by the color and notation at the top (just below the name). Skills all very clearly state right at the top what kind of damage they do.
Pretty much smoked Torment 3 farm runs! The new 4 Piece IK bonus turns Ancients in to a full-time pet, and with that rune, not only do they add to your lightning damage spec, they also absorb 50% of the damage you take! Mixing in 4 pieces of IK (Probably Helm, Gloves, Boots, Chest) with Thunderfury + Odyn Son, then fill in the rest with + Lightning pieces! I know what I'm planning for

is also supposed to be a link to the "build," as I notice most of his skills are using the lightning damage runes where possible.

This + Thunderfury + BattleRage (Bloodshed) = AoE awesomeness ^^
P.S. Oh and with this double lightning weapon combo you can also use abilities that deal physical damage ^^ so it's a double win
