So i have been farming act 2 pretty easily without dying and at good speed. I thought i will try upgrading my gear since i really want to do act 3 - spent 30M but i get absolutely destroyed in act 3 sometimes even from white trash - morloks/cleavers/tremers/exploding fuckers(grrrrr). Elites are out of question. I was very dissapointed with the results and am just thinking of leveling ranged class. Wondering what i am doing wrong here-
I spent significantly less than 30M to get myself A3/A4 ready. I can't farm A4 elites just yet but I was able to solo Diablo with stats similar to yours (prolly not a significant feat considering he was nerfed to the ground). I'm a tank barbarian.
For your sword and board build, I highly recommend getting a shield with 25%+ block. I'm using one with 1900-2700ish absorb and 27% block with str/vit. I also have a helm of command. I've found that the only thing in melee that hits me for more than 3000 are the golgors and tremors. They're completely tankable if you're surrounded by weaker adds (revenge spam) but you would probably have to kite a bit if you take them on by themselves.
I also recommend replacing Overpower with Furious Charge + Dreadnought. It's great for heals and gives you another escape option especially from jailers, frozen, and arcane. As for your passives, you'd definitely want Tough as Nails and Nerves of steel to tank with more ease. Use Berserker Rage instead of Weapon of Master if you're opting for a DPS passive.
I don't die to A3 elites anymore but my kill speed is pretty slow. I prefer burning through A1/A2 with MF gear.
Your first build with ignore pain instead of overpower and 2nd armor passive should work. If you leap(4secs)>ignore pain(7 secs)>leap(4secs) you should be able to handle anything. 3rd passive could be inspiring presence for some extra heals but since your loh looks great a dps passive as 3rd is probably best. Getting your resists upto 1k and armor upto 11k might help but I'm sure that after 1.0.3 act3 should be easy with your stats.
No offense but has it ever occurred to you that if you're dying, you might need more defense? How can you call it "sustain/damage mitigation build" if 2/3 passives are for damage???
Drop ruthless and weapon master passive for tough as nails and superstition. Drop overpower for furious charge: Dreadnaught. Drop wotb for ignore pain: iron hide. Do leap->ignorepain->leap rotation.
For sword and board barb there is no reason boosting dps if your damage intake > your heals. Go for maximum defensive build to try clear the act first, then try to swap out some defensive abilities or gears for more offensive stat for faster farming.
No matter what, you should ALWAYS have impunity. Even for blow em up build.
Try this first, then you can start modifying from that to see if you can kill stuff any faster while still staying alive.
P.S. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you really want a "blow em up" build for bursting elite, it should look more like this http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#WVRTPk!Vbe!acbbZc this build will give you plenty survivability for the trash mobs but allow you to go 3-2-1 and blow up the elites.
Well clearing act 3 was never my goal - since i can easily do the tornado build to run past everything. I want to be able to farm act 3 so i didnt want to drop below 20k dps or it would take forever to kill stuff. I can probably try all out defense gear/ abilities for first build but it wouldnt be worth it to farm with that. I was just posting here to figure out why there is such a huge difference in act 2 and act 3 where i can roflpwn everything in act 2 with that gear but get owned by white trash in act 3.
Also to clarify - that 30M was trying out different builds which included a 2hander,dual weild also. Once i get a feel for which direction is most efficient i can sell the gear from other builds and focus my gold on one build.
Tried 2 builds -
1) sustain/damage mitigation build - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#WXkQVP!ZbY!aacbcZ
Dagger with 1.2k life on hit,1.6 attacks per second, 50k hp, 800 resits, 9k armor, 21k dps, 16% block sacred
2) high dps blow em up with wotb before they kill me build - http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#WXRQVP!ZbY!aabbcZ
mace 300 loh,1.2 attacks per sec,48k hp, 36k dps, 450 resists, 8k armor, 36k dps, 16% block sacred

My suggestion for "sustained" build is http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/barbarian#WXkSVR!Vbe!aacccZ
