I'm currently limping my way through Act 2. Can't really do it solo since mobs hit so hard so I'm finding public games with heavy dps to help out.
I'm thinking the best (and cheapest) way for me to stay alive with to raise my HP thus Revenge will keep my alive.
I'm at 46k HP right now and have a little more room to grow with a few AH purchases. I'm using dual weapons (700 dps 190 loh and 1000 life on kill, and a 740 dps with 250 strength and 105 vit) but my next purchase will be a shield with a lot of vit plus life %. My resists now are all around the 700 range with buffs. Armor right about 70% mitigation after buffs. Right around 16000 dps during frenzy.
Should I keep stacking HP? This will avoid getting one shot to death and help revenge heal me back up faster. I grouped with another barb while doing butcher runs who had 80k HP and it looked like he wasn't even taking damage as his revenge brought him back up to full on every pack we faced. Of course butcher runs are fairly easy for even me and dual wielding but there are sometimes I drop low and my screen flashes.
Second question. When I buy my shield.. which weapon should I get rid of? the 705 dps 100 strength, 100 vit, 190 LOH and 1000 life on kill..... or the 740 dps with 250 strength and 105 vit?
Its a common misconception that having high hp increases the value of revenge. This is actually false.
If you stack HP you lose other important stats such as strength (armor) and resist all which increase the VALUE of each point of hp.
You may heal fewer points from revenge with an all resist stacked build but on the contrary each point you heal actually is more valuable to your survivability.
I would focus on getting a fast 1-handed weapon with life on hit and a socket (purple gem), 700+ should be right for act 3 and 4.
Having a shield with high block chance and amount is great too, stormshields are worth their money which have good base block damage and chance with base resist all I believe. Getting your hands on a sacred shield can be more costly seeing as they are the best in the game if perfectly statted but are worthwhile if you can afford it. (High armor/block chance+/life%/all resist/vit/str)
Higher hp can help overcome lacking resists/armor but i prefer stacking damage reduction stats. 40-50k should do it for act2 and 50-60k for act3 more doesn't hurt but wouldnt sacrifice other stats for it. Get your resists upto 900ish range and act2 will get a lot easier.
I did all of Act II, including every elite pack I came across, with only 20k HP. I just stood there toe to toe and tanked everything. I had 1k buffed resists, and about 9.5k armor with the enchantress. For act II, it's far better to stack resist than worrying about what your HP is.
Act III is a completely different story however. The white mobs in there will nearly 1shot you with low HP like that, so you will need to keep your resists around 1k, but bump your HP up to at least 60k. At 60k, things still get scary fast.
Hope this helps a little.
Edit: Forgot to add, I had 1.2k life on hit, which is very important with low HP. I would be back to full very fast because with lower HP, your life on hit is much more valuable as it heals for a larger % of your life.
