I've been gearing up for Act 3 for the past week and, while I have vastly improved my character, surviving in A3 seems to remain out of reach.
My mitigation is very good at the moment; the only thing I am really lacking that I see a lot of others have is a high % block (Mine is 27 on a 2700 Aegis)
So, are any of you able to do A3 with only ~30% block? I ask this because achieving 40% or more block is probably the most expensive gear investment for barbs right now, so I've been hoping to avoid buying such expensive gear until I can farm expensive gear to sell from A3.
My character:
I've been thinking about a ~15% String of Ears as a next possible purchase, but it's hard to justify Melee only mitigation, even if it's big. I may buy it anyways, though, since I can't even survive vs most A3 Champ melee alone, nevermind molten/chains/mortar/electrified/desecration damage.
I realize that my %block isn't the only stat that isn't quite A3-ready, I'm working on improving my RA and LoH...I still have a few item slots to improve. It would suffice to say, however, that getting my RA to 950+ and LoH to 900ish won't make me A3 viable, I can be sure about that.
A lot of people have "cleared" A3. When you take a closer look, though, you notice that Tyrael was the one doing the clearing and half of the champ packs have to be skipped entirely.
Not talking to either of you, specifically, just saying.
ive seen videos of 2h barbs clearing Act III & IV and thats 0% chance to block
I don't doubt it. Right now my shield isn't really doing a whole lot for me in A3, so I can see how if I had 50k+ DPS A3 might be possible.
The problem is, though, that Attack Speed and Crit DMG/Chance gear is expensive, too. Finding the right gloves for that build, alone, is probably just as expensive as buying a Stormshield is for a sword/board build.
Hi there! I was running a measly 17% block with a dread shield all through act 3 and 4 with not too many problems. I've noticed a lot of barbs on the forums going nuts about block but I personally don't see it as mandatory to clear the content. For the time being I'm mainly using the shield as a huge stat stick. You can find fairly cheap ones with say.. 14% block/60 res/60vit/12% life and maybe even some other goodies like str.
Anyway, don't give up! From the looks of your stats you are getting close. I think I was farming siegebreaker with very similar stats. My resists were slightly higher and I had about 1000 life per second (with inspiring) instead of the life on hit you have. Perhaps this was what made the difference. This was me running a super defensive build though, I was no stranger to enrage timers.
I sort of went for this build because I found I was running around vs champs much more than I was hitting and you know what life on hit only works if you hit. It has worked very well for me so far, I've bumped my life per sec up since then and added some LOH to it and its going great.
On a serious note I got 1200 physical resist rest about 1k, 55k hp,9k armor with a 2H and 800 LoH. With shield i take about 20% less damage from the extra 1,5k armor and 80ish extra resists. I just lack a proper onehander and 2H is fun just a tad squishy when those annoying birds throw fireballs around. Having 28% ias from neck/ring is a nice boost in dps got my all-ress/strength/vita/ias neck for 3,5 Mil which wasn't too bad.
Key is dmg dmg dmg, while having good defensives. My weapon has 610 dps, but 1150 LoH which cost me a mill. My dps in full rage is above 21k. Get some IaS, a crazy LoH weapon and your good to go.
Looks like attack speed and LoH are doing wonders for you. Good to know. Currently, I have IAS on my gloves and one ring and Life on hit on my weapon and amulet. I'm looking to upgrade my other ring, it's pretty bad atm, so I might try to find an IAS/LoH/RA ring. I've been hesitant to replace that ring with anything other than a justice lantern, though...but if IAS/LoH will get the job done I'll do that.
i got 13% block on mine, but my other stats are 1300-1400 resist, 12.8 armor, 51k health 12k dps, i easliy kill everything in act 3 except soul reapers kinda suck and slow axxe dudes and fat people of course hurt so u just kite gg, act 4 isnt that bad the mobs are more barb friendly than act 3
Hey man... get a shield that blocks for 4700 (sacred shield). Even at 27% block you will be taking significantly less damage. I am at 31% and can farm Siegebreaker in 30min to 1 hour depending on my level of concentration and how easy the affix combos are on the elites. If I have trouble finding or killing the first pack, I'll reset usually. My physical resist with the buff is over 1200 but other resists are between 850-1000. I do not have justice lantern or string of ears but I do have helm of command. Around 60k health with 14k dps (18k with berserker rage) and 11k armor.
If you're playing tank-style, you can also look at improving both your block amount (by getting a sacred shield), and your maximum health. Simply reducing how much damage comes in while increasing how much damage you can repair with your %healing abilities can have a substantial effect on survivability.
Not to mention, if you're running Nerves of Steel, that extra vitality is going to turn into additional mitigation for you.
I am kinda in the same boat as you. I trololo stuff in ACT 2 but hit a fast wall in ACT 3. When i hit the wall i had 55k HP 11.5k dps 1100+ reisist all 10.1k armor, but only 27% block. After getting 3 stacks and not being able to progress i gave up on ACT 3 and went back to ACT 2 to farm belial. Since then i got a HoC so now my block is at 35%. I have no tried ACT 3 since then, but i may soon as a justice lantern is a min 5mil on AH =( and lets not even talk abouy a stormshield with above 26% block.
Well for ACT 2 i dont skip any champ packs or anything and i kill Belial with 5 stacks. Just today i killed Ghom with 5 stacks with my 2 wiz friends in ACT 3, but it was very harsh, he him self was not too bad, but we had to skip 2 champ packs as they were inane, and even with 1k+ resists 50k hp 13k dps and 9k armor i still was getting near 3-4 shot but skelies using 2h weps in dungeon keep lv2 and lv3. oh and thats whith 35% block!
Hi there.. I can farm act3 without major problems and do not have to leave out 90% of packs. i went the dps route coz i dont see the point of playing barb as tank.. barb should be a killermachine..
my stats: around 47k life, 10k armor buffed with enchantress, 8 to 900 all res buffed, 40k damage (5 frenzy stacks around 50)
tough as nails, ruthless, nerves of steel
WotB (double damage), Ignore pain (7 sec), Warcry (+50% res), Furious charge (8% life), Frenzy (damage enhance per hit), Revenge (proc chance)
I do not use LoH.
Right now i am farming siegebreaker with 5nv
So how do u handle champs that are shielding since you wont be able to nuke them with WotB?
Well from what i have been seeing online it looks like gear check for ACT 3 went way up after the hotfix patch as you need a lot more dps as a tank barb to push foward, so at moment i am just focusing on finding a decient 850-900 dps wep.
I have 50k HP, 10k armor, 1100 ressist to all. 12.5k DPS with 1000 LOH. I can't do Act III. Yet I did act II using leveling gear.
What spec are you guys using?
Hi.
I'm in the same boat. 10300dps. 1000 resist to all, 10200 armor, 600 loh. 780 dps one hander, 1.50 speed.. if that matters. Low block. There is even white mobs that own me in a few seconds(These bursty mobs will get tuned in patch 1.0.3, but still). Elite packs burst me down in a few seconds.
Build; http://us.battle.net...gVPk!eVb!acacZc
I see allot of barbs here mentioning that they have act 3 on "farm" by this, do you mean that you can kill every elite pack in act 3 or do you just run to the "hard" boss at the end of the bridge in act III and rinse->repeat? I wouldn't call checkpoint running "Act III on farm", which is what I think 90% of barbs are doing at the moment.
I want to do it legit, I do not want to checkpoint run. But if what you lot say is true, I want to see you're stats so that I know what to aim and look for.
Nollie I'm not surprised you have troubles with that spec you're missing both leap and ignore pain. Think most people are doing 5stack siegebreaker kills which is doable just skipping the invulnarable mobs packs myself. As for stats 1,2k phys resist rest 1kish 9k armor 54k hp 20k dps with 2H, if i grab a shield and onehander my dps drops to 16k and armor and resists go up a bit.
Well yeah.. in your sense i do not farm.. like i said i HAVE TO move.. i considered farm as being able to gather 5 stacks and kill siege in a playing style that is fun for me and does not take like 3 hours (ranges from 30 to 60 mins usually)..
just standing there, dully hitting mobs is not even what i want.. if moving out of void zones etc is required to clear the game, thats cool - but right no thats not the issue. melee in this game is broken.. plain and simple..
and to all the fanboys defending melee right now: gathering 50% block and hit like a girl is not what i consider fun..
Thank you for replying.
Can you post an image of you're gear or just write down you're stats on here? It would be appreciated.
And yes, melee is quite broken at the moment.. or rather some of the mobs are quite overtuned. I guess skipping is a must. I like killing everything but I guess that's not really possible, well it might be possible ofcourse but not right now in the gear i'm wearing.
Stats at the moment:
10500 armor
12500 dps
980 physical resist, the rest is around 990/1000.
No life on hit
16% chance to block
48900 hp. I think my gear is allright. I steamroll act 2 without any problems whatsoever. Any tip on what to improve for act 3 would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently in the fields doing the quest "War Machines" or whatever it is called, can't remember right now.
