What are your thoughts on call of the ancients and revenge as main damage dealing? For example:
Using wrath of the berserker (+100% dmg), then leap attack into large group (+300% armor), use call of the ancients (20 seconds), take a few swings with rend (6% life leach) and leap attack back out. Mainly relying on the Ancients and revenge (220% weapon dmg) to take out or weaken the mob. Possible or would relying on those two skills leave you with too little damage?
The ancients will aid me!
I think even at 90secs cd its still too long, youd have to confront mobs without those 2 skills and youd basically be 4skills & 2passives against them. WotB needs the entire build focused to sustaining it to be of any use and even so I dont like it really (and it looses 100%dmg for the 25furyper1sec rune), just because it gives you 4 things doesnt necessarily mean its important IMO.
Also say youre bossing with this, even though youre godlike for 15 secs then youre kind of left naked, its just how I feel I prefer a sustained char. It could work maybe if you chose between one of them and changed the other and the passive.
I'm personaly modeling my build around using Call of the Ancients.. Not sure how exactly to pull it off yet but.. I even looked into a Earthquake CotA & wrath of the berserker with boon of bull kathos as a possible strategy but that seems like your leaving an awful lot up to CD's.. what do you guys think about the boon of bull kathos passive?
I was thinking about the Call of the Ancients skill again today as far as a damage dealer. DenkaSaeba25 suggested it as a panic skill. However, I would like at look at it as a damage dealing skill vs another damage dealing skill with a cool down like Overpower:
Weapon damage: 100
Overpower: 165% weapon damage and a 15 seconds cool down. Call of the ancients with Boon of Bul-Kathos has a 90 second cool down.
With Over power you can do 960 damage in those 90 seconds. (90secs/15cooldown=6 overpowers per 90secs. 165*6=960)
Now Call of the Ancients has three barbarians doing 60% weapon damage. (60*3=180) Thus, they are doing 180% weapon damager per swing as a group (not counting their additional bonus abilities). If this skill is ruined with Duty to the Clan they will be fighting for 20 seconds. In that time I would estimate one hit every 3 seconds or about 6 hits each in 20 seconds. This would put the damage to about 1080 damage in 90 seconds. (180 for all three ancients when they all hit, they should hit at least 6 times in a 20 second period of time thus 180*6=1080). Additionally, this is not factoring in the ancients special abilities, so the damage could be more in the 20 second time period.
That being said, most of these numbers are very generic and hypothetical, but hypothetically Call of the Ancients can be at the very least as good if not better then overpower as a damage dealer. The main difference is Call of the Ancients does allot of damage in a selected period of time on random targets. Overpower gives more freedom and choice.
Useless? How so? In one hour of play a person using Boon of Bul-Kathos would get 10 more uses of Call of the Ancients then someone not using the skill (3600 seconds in a hour divided by 120 second cool down or a 90 second cool down). In order to validate your statement, you would have argue how a different skill would be more effective that that amount of damage that 10 more uses of Call of the Ancients would generate. This amount of damage will be significant (If my hypothetical math is anywhere close to the real game), but I do think you could argue your point depending on the overall direction of a build.

You still have 3 active and 2 passive skills left to make such a build work, should be viable imo.
As long as you save your cooldowns for at least decently challenging packs the cooldowns might line up well.
I think its viable too.. And i'm going to be pushing its viability with my first character in diablo. I'm really looking forward to having a unique build and this one has my personal stamp on it so far
My charger / revenge build. Cycling 3 cooldowns, you should have each ability to use every 20 seconds or so.
Also I think the best rune for CoTA is by far The Council Rises simply because all of the Ancients can be killed.
100% more armour = more damage from not being dead sooner. On higher difficulties I imagine it will make itself more prominent. Alsoi a static 6% damage increase to all the ancients is much better if the one you have runed is all of a sudden killed, then that rune go's to waste.
I have to agree on this. I would prefer FistOfZakarrums build. You have to have solid three skills and passives for being able to survive when not using your cooldown.
I would try something like this: http://us.battle.net...VTjP!bVS!cacbaa
It seems you cannot miss Revenge at the moment. Maniac is obvious for single damage. Rend allows for good area damage while not having to stay static. Passives for survivability. For equipment you should go for Resistances, armor and fury generation with this build. Carrying a shield might be very valid if not 2h.
When doing a Bul-Kathos build I think you should go for Arreats Wail in WotB. You will be basically low on damage and want to get the cooldowner out for damage every 28 seconds. Also this allows you to combine your three skills all for damage in specific situations (like Champion Packs).
Should note that you didn't rune any of your skills.
But yes this build will really shine when a champion or rare pack comes alog and you bust out all 3 abilities at once and laugh as everything disintegrates. (In theory).

yes this so very much... I really want to use leap as a main skill in my build too. some of the others could be changed around though. if you think it needs tweaking
Imho those abilities need to be what they're designed to be: a situational "oh shit" button, able to save your life once every two minutes. I'm not particularly fond of any of them, frankly. Even as lifesaver, Ignore Pain has a much better output.
No reason to go "back to the drawing board", Pigbeast. This is NOT an "oh shit" skill. Its a legitimate leveling/killing skill. This isn't WOW with 45 minute boss fights where you have to "oh shit" paladin bubble to save the group. This is a skill that you'll be using as often as the cooldown allows. Your other active skills are whats going to keep you alive and killing in between cooldowns.
Also, if the cooldown was reduced to nothing, you'd basically be a more badass necro/witch doctor, which is ridiculous, so the cooldown needs to stay where it's at.

I'd call it more tactical than "oh shit" in terms of calculated use of the three 2 min abilities that the barb has.
Example:
You run into a pack of of Jailer-Molten-Extra strong in Hell. Good use of the abilities would be IF you get jailed and low on health, WoTB with Wail to knockback and do huge damage + give you dodge and movement speed allowing you to survive longer. Couple this with Earthquake while you're jailed you will kill a majority of the pack and walk away unscathed.
I just dont understand the purpose of the boon of bull kathos passive if not to utilize all three of the CD's in your build .. and with Earthquake having the additional rune of cooldown reduction.. it just seems likes its supposed to be this way. nothing will be determinable until after may 15th but.. thats just how I feel I guess
Oh, it's going to be hilarious to play, I really can't wait to see people rage at my 2 min cooldown use. Cause you just know there's gonna be butt hurt elitists everywhere. Seriously can't the 15th come any faster?
I'm so glad I got other people turned onto my 3 big CD build is the flux capacitor online? Doc we need more roads to get up to 88mph?! Roads?? Where were going we dong need roads..
