well your going to have to beat soft core normal to create a HC character. so i guess if you die before you beat inferno starting all over will suck. which is why i mostly avoid HC, accidental/lag deaths ruining the game doesn't seem fun at all.
It does suck, but that actual permanent loss makes you play on pins and needles. I was always terrified of Duriel with my HC characters, my heart rate would go through the roof. The actual satisfaction of max level HC and the better than normal loot (which I don't know if that has been included into D3) was a huge draw...like a power trip. Going hardcore is hard to quit.

there was better loot in HC in D2? i didnt know that. i havent heard anythign like that for D3.
i get the intensity of hardcore but with the game being so easy to "insta die" it just isnt worth it IMHO. what if a storm hits and your internet goes out and u die in game? or hit a big lag spike, or mouse/keyboard dies and your dead. too many accidental/sudden ways to die that you have no control over makes me not want to play it. and if you really dont want to die it basically forces you to stack armor/defensive skills to stay alive too and really hinders the build options to test out because your too afraid of dying.

lol u smashed them when u died in HC? i would do the same. ive broken some xbox controllers over some dumb shit
Yes, i did, since i didn't want to recover them from the "save" directory. The monitor was broken because of Hell Duriel.
im far too angry to ever play HC. losing an entire char ive spent hours n hours on would ruin the game for me and make me not want to play. if say you get a super severe penalty when you die in HC like you lose all your gear permanantly then i would play. but losing your char..... no way

Same for me. I'd just be angry for ages. Plus, i don't really like defensive builds. I want to see big numbers, crits and fun, and not be terrorized by every mob. HC isn't really made for me, even if i recognize i could be good enough to finish it.
feel exactly the same. defense= lamesauce. the build in my sig has terrible defense but awesome dmg potential and i want most of my builds like that. itll make inferno harder but since its softcore im not paranoid. obviously if i die nonstop then ill go more defense accordingly.

Strive to find the perfect balance! Hence why I usually shutdown most builds I see on the barbarian forum. With enough time, gear and attempts, most builds will work in softcore. You just don't have that luxury in hardcore.
My main build has insane damage and survival, even more now with the armor and wrath change. Not to forget the in-direct buff to Tough as Nails.
Still wonder how big of an armor difference it will be when you compare Nerves of Steel and Tough as Nails.
i try and make fun/odd builds that are also extremely high in damage. in D2 the best defense was a powerful offense, but you had to be careful so it made it more intense. having a great defense makes it more boring because there is less risk, i get that since you play HC you still get the rush even with a highly defensive build but meh.. too high a risk. lol
what indirect buff to tough as nails?
link to your build?

I have yet to break anything--BUT when lag wiped out my Javazon I beat my desk pretty hard, bruising my hand. HC comes with risks, Blizzard will have to put a release from lawsuit in their Eula...
Indeed. I won't just have one barbarian so I'll be playing through some fun builds as well just that once you've gone through some content. You will be bound to have some better gear for your next character. I'll be keeping some good parts along the way as I play.
The indirect buff to though as nails was the armor / defense change since pre-patch, defense was stronger. Which (correct me if Im wrong) made Nerves of Steel much superior to Tough as Nails.
nerves of steel superior to tough as nails? depends how high your armor is and how high your vitality is. lets just say you have 1000 total armor end game. and 2000 vitality. 100% armor is an extra 1000 armor VS. nerves of steel only granting 500 armor (25% of 2000). so in this case ToN would be twice as good. so your vitality has to be about 4.5x higher then your armor for it to be better.

You mis-read. I did say the in-direct buff to Tough of Nails because pre-patch, ToN was 100% armor and Nerves of Steel 25% of vitality Defense. Defense was superior to Armor but now that they combined defense and armor, ToN is looking very sweet.
oh well when i read made Nerves of Steel much superior to Tough as Nails i thought you meant that was how it currently was. but ya ToN is way better IMO because it doubles thorn dmg, and a thorny barb will be a fun one :P. that "thorny monk" thread he was able to get almost 90 thorn dmg. and since the barb can double that, thorn dmg def seems viable throughout the game. at least for the barb

I have trouble picturing a "thorn barb". It doesn't really feel authentic. Or am I missing something? (next to the barb wire <-> thorns synergy)
How does a barbarian cause damage to everyone that attacks him?
Have you ever hit something, or kicked something for that matter.... just for it to hurt you more than you hurt it? Those demons will be hitting my barb and then saying to theirselves "FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUU.... Wish I hadn't done that!"
