Just looked at the barbarians skill tree again, guess I didnt notice this before,
there is a skill called sprint, it is ACTIVE ?
and all it does is increase your run speed
do we have a semi-useless skill on our hands? I mean sure, running fast is fun, and takes less of a players time to get from one area to another ,and might possibly allow the barbarian to........... run away from enemies heaven forbid?
but comon now, all of those wonderful oh so useful kick ass skills, and then there is sprint?
it should at least increase attack speed, minor increase in health recovery, or something.
thats 5 skill points that could have gone into increasing your damage, or defenses, or building fury, or healing.
yea, i understand what you mean..
but i rather not critique the skills when we aren't even in the alpha phase of a game..
But, if i must: its possible that they want to give you variety to some degree. who knows how much of a difference this could make in the game. It might be kind of useless, but someone increasing all their strength might think to themself, "even though i wouldn't waste my skills investing in something so useless, i want the option to"
that's my train of thought on the matter. But, if thats the case, then make the first row of skills (first tierre) something like this.. this way everyone has to choose a few of these ability skills and then move on to more powerful attacks.
Either this, or make it in its own way useful .. who knows :P, not me...

"Not Even Death Can Save You From Me" ~ Diablo (II)
they wouldnt even need to do that necessarily, just add some sick Rune effects
Rune 1: increase attack speed
Rune 2: Health recovery
Rune 3: you can in a sense run into monsters while running, dealing damage, and weakening their attack strength because you trample them
Rune 4: Increase damage of other skills while its in effect,,,, if your running really fast and do Whirl wind,
you would be moving faster and therefor do more damage, make sense?
Everyone but your mom, she comes running after me (also I am married so my chasing days are over)
Seriously though, I could really see using this skill in PvE also. Like those damn imps from Act V being able to sprint to catch them would have been amazing. I can see this skill being useful against any caster in the game. Especially when they can get away easily.

Heh this thread started out criticizing Sprint but now people are thinking of so many ways to make the skill useful and fun, talk about the guys at blizzard who actually designed the skill .

The sprint is problably a HUGE pseed boost for a few seconds with a moderate cooldown, theres no need to keep rebuffing or turning it in a passive.
This skill can be very helpfully in many occasions. There many reasons why a character should move faster, just watch the gameplay footage (the first one). The almost NEVER run straight in the enemies and start killing hten like a retard. He keeps running around, organizing the mob, reaching the right targets, avoiding the bosses's attacks, etc... In all this occasions a movement speed burst is usefull just like a leap attack and a teleportation.
i didnt research this, but wont he have leap attack anyway?
ya, no, its pretty useless without some runes doing other things
Leap attack is not meant to be a movementation only skill since it does splash damage. So i assume it will have disvanatges in terms of fury cost/cooldowns compered to sprint.
Sprint is a necessity, maybe not for PvM cause monsters are rarely ever running away from you, but in PvP it is pretty much a requirement to catch up with teleporting Wizards and any other class that is running and gunning. Apparently noone has seen a speeder barb?
dude, sprint is awesome. Definitely need it when your melee. Vsing range is a huge advantage, closing in fast therefore givng them less time to hit you from afar..
Also.. im speculating that sprint will actually generate fury... but needs to have a calculated cooldown... or you can just build up full fury before a fight.
This may have been mentioned already, but the Barbarian works off of a type of Rage system. Where the more and more he kicks ass, the more he can kick, MORE, ass. And if a speed increase is available, this may be a crucial skill that the Barbarian can use quite often. I'm sure they are STILL working on the skills and whatnot. This may not be permanent, but if it is, I'm sure it'll be a very viable skill and very useful as well.
It seems about as useful as the Paladin's faster run aura, which people also ended up using regularly, and which also requires you to switch active skills. In any action RPG there will be moments when the only thing you have to do is run, and for such moments, sprint can be incredibly handy. Especially, as suggested, when it benefits fury; like fury won't degenerate as fast while sprinting or something. Besides, there's always a benefit for fury, because you'll get to the next enemy faster, so the chance that your fury will drop because of inactivity is decreased.
Secondly, we're used to D2, where every class has teleport and/or faster run boots. In a situation without those, sprint might mean an advantage even in PvM. For example, it might help the barbarian to position himself as a tank more quickly in dynamic boss fights.

either way it needs some serious changes
But, yeah, Sprint could be a useful skill but I dunno if it should be in the game.
