@kasiopec Do you have written proof of this? Dust Devils taking the element of Whirlwind? Meaning if I pick the cold rune I get cold dust devils? I don't think this is the case, I think dust devils is always Physical, otherwise it would be stated similar to the new Sychophants.
I have a few questions about this if people know the answers, that would be great.
First, I know Skull Grasp does not affect Dust Devils, this is fairly easy to test and see no difference in damage.
Does Dust Devils take the element of the Whirlwind Rune I use or based off the max elemental damage % of the gear I am wearing?
How does IAS affect Dust Devils. I know it affects Whirlwind itself, but some people seem to believe it causes WW to create more Dust Devils, do we know this for sure? This is kind of a big deal because it affects the rolls on items such as IK boulder breaker, where maybe 7% ias might actually be helpful.
Skull Grasp does not increase DD damage, but whirlwind skill damage (for instance on boots and helms) does.
DD spawn rate is based on WW breakpoints. More attack speed can be better if you get to a higher breakpoint. Some people are switching to WotW 6 with dual Bul Kathos Swords in place of IK BB to spawn more DD and thus do more damage. 55 has been cleared with this set up.

wrong.
WotW makes you gain the effect of the DD rune all by itself. When you select another WW rune, you take that element, as well as DD rune which does Phys dmg

Please check facts before you tell someone else they are wrong.
doctorclock is correct. The Dust Devils element is determined by the rune you select, it is NOT always physical. This is very easy to test.
Dust devils are always physical, the fact that my damage always blows through the roof when it Convention of Elements rotates to physical is evidence of that, since I often use either lightning/cold runes on whirlwind, it's ALWAYS physical from the ring where the damage happens. Dust Devils are physical, they are a physical effect and changing the rune does not change that, it only changes the whirlwind damage.
If it was cold/lightning then I would see a massive damage increase during those elements on the ring, and it does not happen.
If the Dust Devils are considered Physical by the COE ring (which is what I have been saying) and are based on the skill rune for everything else (that I didn't notice) then that is quite a big deal. Given how strong the ring is and how popular it is with the build you might as well still consider Dust Devils as physical.
The damage bonus on this ring is out of this world. the damage you do from DD when it rotates to physical is monstrous and as i've said, it does not matter what rune you pick, the damage comes from the rings physical buff.
This is all very fascinating. Good to know, I do wish Blizzard would be more clear on all of this. At first I was excited to hear that I can choose any rune and change my elemental type, but I don't know how to survive without the % life on crit whirlwind rune sol Gr50+ without that life restoration.... Anyone else had luck passed 50 without bloodlust rune or whatever it is called?

I was just wondering if the dmg on the dust devils from the WotW 6 piece set is increased with +% phys dmg?

its in the 2.2 patchnotes under barbarian skill changes, dust devil spawn rate is dependant on attackspeed
DD are based on the rune you select for WW.
