With all the hype about diablo 3 I had decided to pick up Diablo 2 and start playing again and relive the storyline and characters.
I had done the digital download from the blizzard store on my compaq laptop i had bought maybe 7 months ago.
And it cant even run it smoothly it like lags the hell out of the gameplay
( Almost freezes )
How can a d2 fan like myself live diablo when my new laptop cant even run a ten year old game.
haha
o well

A LITTLE OFF TOPIC
run diablo in 256 colors and click the run in settigns for windows xp service pack 2 and run as an admin and the most inmportant part: run in 2d <---- biggest problem.... do all this and check back to me
Ugh! I have a similar pity story as you do, although mine seems to be more woeful. I can install the D2, but once I insert the "Play" disc, my compaq (desktop) won't even read it. At least the other person can see his (though it freezes). I also wanted to relive D2 before D3 comes out. Guess I can't! Blah!

And now it won't even read the play disc (it can read other discs perfectly fine). Same thing with my SIMS game and my Battle Realms.:( But I really just wanna be able to play D2 again.
P.S. what is this Blizzard site where I can download the no-cd patch for free? Can y'all gimme a link? Thanks.

If this doesn't work, you are going to have to uninstall DiabloII, and goto Blizzard.com/store and create an account. under account there is a thing that says add games to my account. you click that, then enter your diabloII cd key. the no cd patch comes with the fresh install.

rep my post plz
I think I'm gonna go with the second option, as I don't feel secure downloading some patch. But u have to reassure me that downloading the no-cd-patch in blizzard.com/store is absolutely FREE (provided I have my cd-key from my D2 game some 2 years ago) and safe, yes?

what dont you feel secure about? the link for the patch is straight from the blizz website. If you really dont believe me goto blizzard.com/diablo2 and look for patch under downloads. you cant just download the no-cd patch from the blizz store, you have to download the entire game. yes its free, you just have to make an account by filling out a form. its all safe, dont you trust blizzard?

Ok, ok. You're right. I was just being cautious of viruses and spywares and what not. I apologize for being slow on this. These patch things are a new thing for me. I never had to deal with them, much less aware of them. So for the last time, do I just make an account in blizzard store and download the entire no-cd patch game from there, or do I do it from this link (http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20758) u provided? Or is there some sequence between the two? Which is it? Sorry again for the lengthy, repetitive questions. I appreciate it.
btw, if I use this link: http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20758, I don't have to make some sort of an account as opposed to doing it on the blizzard store? And when i download the patch in the above mentioned link, I won't need to download it on the blizzard store site, right?

Okay, sorry, I must have made things a llittle confusing. They were the two options you had for getting the new patch. You dont have to do both, you do one or the other. I would suggest first trying to download just the patch, because it would be less time consuming. (no account set up necessary)
1.)goto http://us.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=20758
2.)depending on wether you have windows or mac, the Original Diablo II or expansion, click on one of the 4 download links. for example: if you have windows (xp or vista or windows anything) look under Windows version 1.12a Upgrade Patchand if you have LoD installed
click the download link under expansion. save the file to your desktop.
3.)now run the .exe file you just downloaded. It should be called something like patch_112a.exe and just follow on screen directions.
4.)once you have successfully installed the patch and you get d2 running, you can delete the patch_112a.exe file that you saved to your desktop.
If the method above doesn't work this is your other option.
1.) completely uninstall diablo II
2.)goto www.blizzard.com/store
3.)click register (top right corner)
4.)select your contry, agree to Terms of use, fill out the form etc... (use your correct e-mail address)
5.)check your e-mail and activate your account.
6.)sign in at blizzard.com/store
7.)once signed in, click Account 8.)under my account controls click games
9.)click add new game enter your cd-key and click add game. save the installer to your desktop and when its done, run it and it will install diablo for you, along with the newest patch!!!
10.)when you have diabloII up and running you can now delete the installer that you saved to your desktop.

Omg! I can't thank u enough! Installation has begun. I'm excited, though the download is a tad slow. Anyway, I'd like 2 ask if, say, my computer doesn't live up 2 its former standard performance (considering it's been 4 years since purchase), can i still install my d2 game from any computer? I have a compaq laptop, and I was thinking of reinstalling it there in case if my old desktop acts iffy. Would I need to uninstall it on the desktop first to install it elsewhere again? Btw, thank u so much for all the help, man. I appreciate it.;)
