I built a cheap Magic Find set of gear that puts my MF to around 113. I cannot tell any difference in the drops. On a run, I still fill my bag with all blues except 1 or 2 yellows.
Anyone have gear that gets their MF considerably higher than 113 and in turn seeing marvelous results?
I'm trying to plot a gear path of sorts for running in hardcore. (Progress to here, then farm it until [these stats] are attained, then progress more, repeat). Unfortunately, I'm not seeing how magic find is of any significance at this point...
i dont understand why rare and elite monsters drop more rare items then bosses. of mf?
Blizzard designed the game that way so that people could not do "baal runs" like they did in the past, they intended to make people have to find dungeons and have to kill pack upon pack of elites

Yeah, basically they want you to play through the game or a whole act, not just one quest over and over. That way you farm some elites, some chests, and after a dozen or so champion packs, go kill a boss. This is very apparent with the Nephalem Valor buff, but I'm not seeing how magic find is accomplished before level 60. Just grind it out and hope for some luck? :\
There is no real point before lvl 60 and the Nephalem Valor buff. That being said I can definately see the difference between having 5 stacks of the buff and not having it at all. Quest bosses like Skeleton King, Cydea, Belial, Diablo etc. all seem to drop 4+ blues and 2+ rares. But it's not just that, normal mobs and even barrels, dead bodies etc. are definately dropping better items.
Thats just my experience so far atm doing act I Inferno.
100% MF will double all items drop chance, 200% tripple, etc., however, those chances are thousandths of a percent to start with, so doubling them doesn't do much.
It will still be down to a matter of luck.

I really really really wish they would lower Nephalem Valor to Level 40, since that's near the end of Nightmare, which is when people look to farm NM to get good progress in Hell. That would make sooo much more sense.
Item dropping is all about luck. MF only increases that luck.
Sure, MF reduces white and grey drop chance and consequently increases magic and rare, but it's not going to do a great deal until you have a lot more.

My max MF gear is at >200% and I still didn't notice any difference in boss loots or chest loots - I have the feeling MF gear either only applies to trash or it doesn't apply at all.
MF will apply to everything: trash, rares, champions, bosses, barrels, etc. The problem is that even if you have 200% MF, it won't make a noticeable difference. As an example:
An item has a 3% chance to drop. If you had 100% magic find, that chance would increase by 100%: in other words, it would increase by another 3% to a total of 6%. 200% MF would boost it to 9%.
As such, the difference is certainly there, but it won't really be noticeable. You just have to trust that it's working, rather than try to objectively prove it.
