I'm currently playing a barb, grinding Act 1 of Inferno, and have started developing a program to optimize and identify stat preferences as I continue to farm gold and buy better gear (min/max). However, I have been searching for a thread regarding Armor calculation and haven't had any luck with anyone posting about the topic.
I'm looking for a formula that identifies how Armor is calculated.
Initially, I thought it'd be an easy additive function of armor on the gear, but that didn't work, with the Armor value being much higher. I then stripped all my gear and added a strength only armor and saw the Armor value increase, the same with res gear and dex gear.
I have seen several posts from people talking about Damage reduction v resistance, etc, but nothing regarding how the Armor value in game is calculated. After playing with different gear options, it's pretty evident that Armor is calculated based on multiple stats (i.e. armor, res, strength, dex, etc).
I'm confused on why people are posting about armor v res and the corresponding values and preferences of what is "optimal" when your "Armor" value is modified by both (and other stats) and accurate quantitative comparison can't be done without knowing this information first.
Thanks for the info and I figured it out. The only two raw stats that impact Armor are armor and Strength and they are linear. The problem was I had the Enchantress with me, serving as a multiplier to my Armor value.
