I have not played the beta, therefore I was not able to test the classes. Most people currently casting beta replay with higher leveled characters. From those of you who have tested this, which class has the potential to level up the fastest, starting fresh of course.
I played beta a good amount but its a hard question to answer, if you think about d2 barbs were really strong without gear until level 15-20 when you really needed a decent weapon. Barbs feel really strong in beta but I bet its the same deal, I would say wizard is your best bet but then again wizard skills rely on weapons now too..
Hello, can you give us some more information. Level up fastest from 1 to what level? 13? 60? Obviously if it's 60, it's all guess-work.
If it's 13, then once again it's not an informed decision because most players finish the beta (kill SK) at level 6 or 7. To actually level up to 13, you have to do SK runs over and over to get 4500 exp per kill as most mobs reward little or no exp because the content is too low level. Just like WOW, you have to be within a certain level range to get exp from things you kill. Maybe what you should ask is what class kills SK the fastest. Or what class finishes beta the fastest.
Thanks!
Actually, I'm just going to give you an answer even without waiting for your response. Witch Doctor is the best in Beta only because Soul Harvest is retardedly good. Wizard was likely the fastest killer before WD got Soul Harvest at level 9. Prior to level 9, definitely Wizard. Poor DH sux ass until Multi-shot. Barb and Monk are still amazing. Just weak on AoE damage in beta for now.
edit: High enough to solo SK? That's every class at like level 5. Level 1 if you're patient enough with range. So not a good answer as the largest determining factor for how long to solo SK is how much time do you spend running around level 4 looking for entrance.

Leveling high enough to solo or group skeleton king.

Getting to and killing the SK (solo or group) takes about 1 hour (first time) give or take, doesn't vary that much with the different classes since it's such a short path. If you rush it you can do it faster though, but yeah. Just killing the SK isn't much of a speed test at all since it's just the very first levels.

That is good because I have a plan to level up my characters focusing on having all 5 kill the skeleton king before i choose who i want to play. So it will take about 1 day give or take to do this, (I will still be in school, no off time for me). Thank you!
You should amend your thread title to "without gear help from a high level character", as it really sounds like you're asking about levelling without using items.
Nevertheless...
All classes are based on weapon damage. Period.
So every class has the exact same amount of need for a good weapon (and other gear of course) for levelling.
That being said, to assume that the first 13 levels of the game provide an accurate snapshot for the rest of the game, is probably not the wisest thing ever.

Purely preferential imo.
Yes, that is what I meant, but most people understood that anyways.I am only speaking of the levels tested in beta, not the whole game. Read previous post.

Who the fuck would continuously run SK only to level their beta chars?
Blacksmith to SK runs are where its at:
1.) Quest Exp for Beating the Chancellor
2.) Event Exp if you stumble into jar of souls or bones of the matriarch.
3.) Chance at finding a Den of Fallen
4.) More Magic Drops per run
5.) More Content... and so... less repetitive
I found that high damage bows were the best weapons that dropped on my first run through of the beta with new chars. So much so, that my wizard and dh both used a ten dps bow from the moment I found it to killing the skeleton king.
Plus, if you don't find anything good, radek the fence (merchant) usually has something decent in his shop I could afford for a decent upgrade. My DH was level 8 and doing 36 dps without any gearing, just buying from the shops, crafting and using drops.
I made sure to do it on hardcore so I didn't get any fringe benefits of a leveled smith or shared gold.
Honestly, anyone who said any class is spot on. Just buying a halfway decent weapon upgrade on the auction house would put you in a good place for the next 5 levels, and then you can do it all over again.
I played quite a bit of Beta - 1-10 about the only thing that matters is if you already have or get a decent drop on a weapon early. With all the patches I had my characters wiped quite a few times - I seemed to gravitate to DH first but I think that is mostly my "amazon d2" brain taking over.
I had DH's where I couldnt seem to find a bow/xbow and progress seemed painfully slow - but that only in comparrison to finding some 12.1 dps lvl 3 req bow from the second pack I killed outside of town - which then easily carried me through SK and follow on runs.
Levels 1-15 will probably take less than 2 hours for just about anything. As for 16-60 we're all just pissing into the wind with guesses because only Blizz employees have any clue and I'm guessing if they ever noticed it took twice as long to level a DH as a WD they LONG ago fixed that.
WD Offers the most dps of any class we saw, by a mile, at least at 13(at 9 and up)
DH looks to be powerful, but we didn't get to test most of its bread and butter, so it's up in the air there.
Barb is going to be incredibly gear dependent. best level that blacksmith!
Monk is in the same boat as barb. Yay for melees, eh?
Wizard was all over the place for me. I found it to be up and down and up and down, but none of the abilities I wanted to use, could you even play with in the beta. So I haven't a clue!
Wd's ability to double its int is rather massive. That alone is probably going to give it the edge.
I thing DH could be the fastest because of the superior movementspeed between monsterpacks. Vault+Tumble seems very strong.
I agree on this. Had Closed and played all classes lvl 13. WD has best damage but no movement skills.
With DH you can move at insane speed searching for level exits or just using it to gather mob hordes to improve your kill speed.
Normally I would say the restriction to ranged weapons is a big obstacel for DH but it seems you can get around that via crafting and merchants.
But all depending on factors we don't know from later gameplay and difficultiy.
I found all the best weapons were bows, the lv 11 rare crossbows, teh level 13 rare hand-cross bows, and such. I don't think weapons will be an issue.
For the early life of Diablo 3, my money is on Demon Hunter because of mobility and their CC abilities. Surviving a fight with slightly less dps I think is faster than dying a bunch of times with higher dps.
Of course once everything is known about the game, then the Barb or the Monk are going to be fastest in my mind.
If we look at d2 say lvl1-50 could take ages if you didnt have early-midlevel items to give to your character like sigon set at start etc, and in d2 nothing good would drop for your lvl 15 character as he killed bosses and progressed. In d3 theres crafting so you can make decent gear for your level. It wont make you awesome or anything but you will be able to progress until 60 that way. All classes seem pretty balanced each can build and rune towards any situation. Some like witchdoctor and wizard start a bit late like after lvl 10 they catch up to the others in terms of damage, after that im pretty sure there all just preferance rather then number difference.

if you do, wizard whit all those slowmo bubbles and slow/stuns, would work just fine if you take it easy
