We have made enough complaints to Blizzard about the bot problem. I think it's time we introduce our own super weapon of massive bot destruction. A bot that will have a search and destroy directive that would be used to hunt down and kill off all other bots. There would need to be coding to stop the bot from killing off its own bot-killing species. I dunno how to build a bot but I'm sure somebody here can. The war can be won, especially if the bot is so successful that Blizzard buys the bot from us and uses it themselves to keep the servers clean. Who's with me?

Add me to the petition. I'm all for a all powerful killer bot, starting a bot genocide! But would it "kill bots" is this bot going to automatically flag other bots... this might be possible, ok someone find some geeks to work this out!
Well, bots should leave some sort of information trail in each game they are in. Kind of like a file that bot put into the server to get whatever it is that it's programmed to do, done. Wouldn't it be possible to program the WMBD (Weapon of Massive Bot Destruction) to look for this file or files to find where the bot is, if it's in the game in the first place. The only problem would be the bots that just sit in the channels, but those would go away once the source of their items is made extinct.
Edit: It could be possible to add an extra function so that it flags each bot before it kills it, that way if one manages to get away others will know it for what it is.

hmmmm.... Im currently taking a linux class and we talked about scripts. what you can do is find the file or the trail left by the bot, search the game file and copy the bot parts out of it onto another document for hard evidence. then that could be sent to blizzard and bam. they kill the account.
I dont know what the main goal here is beside bots must be terminated!
i dont mind the bots that do baal runs and chaos runs. but if you do you could always make a bot-hunter character, usually a windie or something good vs. hdins.
the bots that annoy me are the spammers, and since they never set foot out of town they cant be pk'd

Remember the String of Ears

One question: How does the Weapon of Massive Bot Destruction counter passwords?
Well, how do the bots manage to get passed my passwords? Also, if the bot works up to the point of getting into passworded games, we could work with blizzard in getting each bot killer a "special" key that allows it to get into any game.

It's the stupid spammers that get in somehow. They pop in, say whatever the hell it is their programmed to say, then leave. One popped in when I was in NM fighting a unique and just that one extra player got me killed. I was pissed.

In a passworded game? That's rather odd. It wouldn't make any sense because passwords are stored in their database as a temporary DB item, with minimal encryption I'm sure... but in order to get that information, you'd have to hack battle.net. Also, it doesn't make sense to brute-force passwords either, as those will take a long time to break, just to come into a room for 5 seconds.
I hate to say it, but the spammers are smart in a business sense. Go for quantity. For every 10,000 people they reach, at least one person will buy something, according to the law of averages.
Either way, the only way to catch botters is to run a script from their side, to watch for specific actions, verify said actions, then have a human look into it. That'd be the only way to nab botters.

You could take the 20 most popular bot programs, study them, figure out how the work, and build a bot designed to catch them in their weak point and kill them.
As for spammers, you could always just overload them with useless information. Though you would have to have a good number of bots to do that.
That would be funny, spam the spammers out. I'll call it "The Spammers of The!" The greatest word is the.
Well the only bot we need to target would be the bots that collect the loot for all the illegal item sites. Knockout the source and the rest will collapse like dominoes.

That's exactly what I was thinking. The Baal run and Chaos bots are actually kind of useful for the boring grinds. It's the spammers that need to die.
Could there be a way to force others to time out earlier or automatically squelch them?
most bots have a script to leave the game when below x% of hp (or worse, they just leave upon hostility), it's either "one shot them" or they just leave.
passworded games are also an issue. it's illegal to use hacks to crack the passwords of games (considered very much the same as using third party programs to crack an account password) so i wouldn't see Blizzard getting along with it.
either way, i'd consider using a bot killer if one was availiable. i have most fun killing stuff and trading the loots so i can gear up other characters and duping/bot farming kills it for me. right now i think reporting works better. (same with spammers/scammers/dupers - Blizzard appreciates it too!)
Blizzard need to ask like 25 people on each realm that will volunteer to "Bot Killer". For Example, Spam bot, MF bot, ALL BOTS.
What they can do is "Frap em", get all info/evidence like what realm, char account. Send the fraps, evidence to blizzard then will ban the cd key/account or something. I know this is allot work but once its starting.. it will reduce greatly. "Allot work to clean up the most dirtiest habit"

bot take waypoint 4
go to this doungeon
if life goes below 50% use potion
kill the boss
grab loot
put loot in stash.
The problem with the bot killer is that the bot killer needs to know what and where the bot is. which would be the hard part.
If we can figure that out, then we got this thing down, and a million dollars from blizzard comes our way!
Edit: It could be possible to add an extra function so that it flags each bot before it kills it, that way if one manages to get away others will know it for what it is.

the only way imo for us to kill bots permently is to clone sixen a few million times.
and then spread the chatgem virus.
which turns all bots into perfect rubys.
