Hey man whatever happened to working alone, and not by buying stuff through 3rd party site? I don't know anything about this forum gold, but it sounds pretty. The thing I love about Diablo is the process of getting uber good, not the final result itself. It doesn't take skill to buy stuff, but grinding is what makes a player "skillfull", if you will.

Several things are bad about that post:
1. I vaguely remember (and though vague, my remember is trusted to be good) that you posted an identical comment in this thread earlier.
2. Maggie just said that the discussion about 3rd party sites is over.
3. Your point makes no sense. You say that working alone makes you good, but then why have battle.net?
Inflation, zero currency control and a lack of sinks are the primary issues; none of which you have even touched on. Why would I remark on something that is irrelevant? You're starting to sound like a troll.
Whoops, look like my other post got modded away for some reason.
Inflation - Remember, your talking about a game that will spawn infinite gold. The longer the game is running, the more gold that will exist, which means, the more inflation.
Sinks - Like I previously mentioned, sinks are totally irrelevant. Even if 99% of the gold people farmed goes towards sinks, its the relative rate of hording that causes inflation. Whether a rich player has 500 gold or 500000000 gold, the number itself is irrelevant. After the games up for 2 years, and people have 2 years worth of gold stashed away, guess what, it bites a big one to be a noob trying to buy items against people with such a head start doesnt it?
I don't think those are irrelevant points, do I still sound like a troll sir?
Are you honestly suggesting all these people donated thousands of dollars to an individual in exchange for psuedo-currency?
We're not talking about years we're talking about months; introducing the precedent for current day activity.
If you're having this much trouble understanding the premise of my argument that you must continually choose to ignore points I bring up and wander off into your own little world then I do not see any reason for you to continue here.
No, I'm not saying every rich person on JSP donated bundles of money. Some of them did, thats a fact. Theres also a lottery game on jsp, some people made some pretty nice hits on that over the years. Some people also just played a lot, got lucky drops, and made some decent fg trades on the forums.
People also have made fg by creating sigs for people to use on jsp and selling them, or from selling in game services, such as rushing or power leveling.
I am not chosing to ignore any points you made. I am chosing to disagree with them. Your claim that rich people on jsp are corrupt is completely baseless, so I have provided for you(see above) ways that people have amassed stockpiles of fg on d2jsp. Perhaps if you had more of an argument other then a false, baseless accusation I would agree with you, so until you can produce a little more don't act like I'm incapable of comprehending a simple argument, why I chose to disagree with it becuase its weak.
Aside from that, I was simply pointing out the the jsp economy that you seem to dislike holds some striking similarities to what the D3 economy seems to be shaping into, leading to the same type of inflate and hording based currency economy d2jsp evolved into over the years.
God dammit! Come on you people. If they were modded away, is it wise to post what you said again? And notice how Maggie said end of discussion. I really don't want to this thread to be closed people. Just drop the JSP discussion please. Or I will have no choice but to report your posts.
I highly suggest everyone to get within a party and get ready for the big race tomorrow. It will be very tight
The OP is mostly right about the most efficient way to start a new ladder season. However, as a player who really dislikes playing a hammerdin, there are several easy substitutions you can make:
Assuming that ubers runs will still be needed (Torches are always good), you can easily make a wind druid that can farm the keys nearly as fast as a hammerdin. It will aslo cost you a little less in item value. Wind druids have dual element damage (cold & physical) so countess & nihil are very rarely totally immune, Though physical immunity does make it take a little while to kill them.
Respeccing throws a wrench into this, but since leveling a smiter kind of sucks, you can use a zealot to kill ubers, assuming that you can get a Death ettin/zerk. Actually there are many builds that can do ubers quite well, frenzy barb being another one that can do it rather easily.
My basic plan for ladder resets is:
1)Start with a blizzard sorc. Easiest character to MF with, and one of my favorites to play. I go right for the occy, skulders & shako build. Good players don't need resists to do Andy, Meph and pindle.
2)Build a key finder, or if you've gotten enough value out of your MFer to buy an unid torch, build an ubers character and start buying keysets for less than the value of an unid torch.
3)With baseline of item value established, it is now time to start playing other classes with wierd builds and doing things that take gear to do. IE, time to start having fun
Makes sense, but still smiters are easily the most effective way to uber and hdins are also the easiest to MF, key farm, etc. I mean, you can't beat exile, last wish, and dracs.
The way i see it, if your top priority in this game is to get rich, but you don't know what forum gold is and dont want to be involved with any 3rd part programs/ forums like me, the guide is simple.
The most legit way to get rich (without using fast user switching on one computer or any programs that enable you to run more than one copy of diablo on one computer):
1. build another 2/3/4 pentium 4 or amd XP computers at around $5-20 bux (128mb ram, 5/10 gb hd, 8mb video card etc).
2. Buy another 2/3/4 d2 cdkeys (either from those sites that sell them cheap), or get the games of ebay for $5-$10
3. Make a rusher (sorc or pally)
4. Start rushing 2/3/4 level 1 characters (plus you could get your friend in there also with another few level 1 chars) through to hell hellforge and collect runes.
I havent timed rushes before but say you could do the whole game in about 40 mins, you could be getting 5+ hell forges in that time. do this for a week and there ya go, u make your own rune words without trading with people on forums or paying money (donations hm hm ) for dupes and stimulating a corrupt economy.
I havent played since 1.10 but i presume hellforges in hell can still drop ist/ gul etc. In no time you could be making your own hotos and enigmas etc

You do realize these two statements contradict each other, right?
I don't think those are irrelevant points, do I still sound like a troll sir?
Yes, you do; that or you're just running on emotion.

The parameters of my argument did not include a yearly scope; I suggest you actually read the statement I made before making (yet another) completely irrelevant remark.

You're either choosing to ignore them, or you fail to understand the basic tenets of economics as you have yet to provide any form of insightful argument and continue to resort to your own cavil methodology.
You do realize these two statements contradict each other, right?
No, I was unaware they contradict eachother. Could you please explain to me how that is?
The parameters of my argument did not include a yearly scope; I suggest you actually read the statement I made before making (yet another) completely irrelevant remark.
You say I'm making irrelevant remarks. I've given you five examples of ways people, without any corruption involved, have made lots of fg on jsp. Meanwhile all you have done is complain the site is corrupt, and call me irrelevant, as you for some reason post a definition of precedence...
You're either choosing to ignore them, or you fail to understand the basic tenets of economics as you have yet to provide any form of insightful argument and continue to resort to your own cavil methodology.
I'm a moron, could you make a numbered list of the points you have made thus far please? I only read two.
1. JSP is corrupt.
2. I'm an irrelevant troll.
So you've proposed an argument with no proof whatsoever and try to back it with childish name calling, and wonder why I don't see things your way.
Meanwhile I've given you multiple ways in which people have made fortunes on d2jsp.
@ nickm83
I agree with what your saying. The economy of D2JSP is far from perfect, but its much better than the economy diablo 2 provides because d2 was never planned to have one. Blizzard certainly did not foresee the huge demand that there is for trading.
@ Matt.J
I stop reading your posts shortly after I realise there is actually effort involved in an attempt to unravel the bullshit that spills from your over inflated head onto your keyboard.
Not many people here can be bothered trying to decipher what you say. You're talking to a bunch of average people about a video game. Or do you need reminding of that fact?

Feel free to let me know when the "unravelling" process has completed so that a proper argument can finally be presented; all the required information is within the first few posts.
In the future, please ensure there's a thorough understanding of the domain before attempting to debate; at present it's like dealing with a toddler trying to explain gravity based on visual cues and personal experiences.
As a response, i will simply copy and paste my previous statement, and will continue to do so until you decide to knock a few IQ points off of your replies.

Light Sorc and Ice Sorc were debated for best MFer. I personally prefer Blizzard because of the ridiculous damage it brings. And with a good solid infinity merc, you're set.
I never actually tried an ice sorc... maybe I should... hmmm. It's more about the immunes really. Most the immunes for my runs are ice and fire immune and not lightning

Lightning are also good early mfers but alot harder to play imo.
I'm so sad how this game is running... Really, it's all about pally and sorcs isn't it?

"Not many people here can be bothered trying to decipher what you say. You're talking to a bunch of average people about a video game. Or do you need reminding of that fact?"
because economics is the only reason most people play this game after beating it once.
No they don't. You trade to get better things to duel better and/or PvM better.
And make a Diablo 2 Economics thread and leave it out of this thread. Stay on topic.
Lightning are also good early mfers but alot harder to play imo.

also, pvp is all about pallys, they have just about every counter. really lame <_<
